I am getting many duplicates in my library.

Why am I getting tens of duplicates of photos in my library?

How high is up?
Maybre if you told us a bit about what you are doing someone could help
The most likely wild gues based on Zero information is that you are importing an iPhoto library into another iPhoto ibrayr - you NEVER  do that  it does not work and creates massive duplicatition

  • I get MANY duplicate iCal events on my iOS6 iPhone when I sync with iTunes--no iCloud setup!

I get MANY duplicate iCal events on my iOS6 iPhone when I sync with iTunes. I do not have iCloud setup to sync at all. I do not have iCloud Calendars in iCal on my Mac (10.6.8), just On My Mac. Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Try resetting your Sync Services. See here to reset your sync services.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Because I have imported from a number of different sources into Aperture (3.2) over the years, I now have many duplicates in my library.  Is there any way in which these can be identified and lated deleted?

Because I have imported photos from a number of different sources into Aperture (3.2), I now have many unwanted duplicates.  Some of these are in the same "file/folder", others are not.  Additionally, some of the duplicates may have different file names.
Can anyone advise me if there is a way of identifying such duplicates in Aperture so that I may later delete them?  If this cannot be achieved within Aperture 3, does anyone know of a proven second-party app?
Before ending I should mention that I am reasonable competent on a computer but I am not in any way an expert.  (So simple answers would be appreciated if this is possible!)
    Hopefully yours,     Jeremy

Jeremy -- I suggest making a complete separate copy of your Library and any Referenced Masters and keeping it for a year.  "Duplicate" is, to humans, relative rather than absolute.  My use of Duplicate Annihilator turned up many useful near duplicates, most of which I couldn't quickly distinguish.  With a complete copy nearby, you can be slightly aggressive in your pruning, knowing that should you turn up something in ten months that you need (as an example: the full-size color file for a black & white printed shot that you thought was based on a full-size color Master but which is not), you'll have it.
IME, it was much more effective to get rid of things I didn't need, than to figure out which of several possible duplicates of an Image I did need.

A recent download - which I automatically said OK to, has somehow made every image in my library into low res.  when I try to use one as a screen saver, it is low res - when I try to print one, it is low res.  was this some kind of setup to get me to buy a newer version of iphoto??????
Of course not - in fact it is not something done by iPhoto - it is most likely a user error
What exactly did you do? What did you download? there is nothing in iPhoto that ever changes the resolution of any photo - in fact you can not do it if you want in iPhoto - you have to export photos to a location outside of iPhoto to change the resolution
have you loaded your backup from before you did what ever you did? That is probably the fastest and easiest way to resolve the problem

  • HT204259 Many  duplicates are in my Photos. Is there a way to get rid of them not deleting one by one or dozen by dozen?

Many  duplicates are in my Photos. Is there a way to get rid of them not deleting one by one or dozen by dozen?

It seems, in old times we could make path to the original file from the IPhoto browser, couldn't we?
There is another question. If I succeed deleting duplicates from the Iphoto library with some third-party program, does it mean that I really free my hard disk of them? Will they disappear from Photos also?

  • Many Duplicate Files! What is the best way to get rid of them?

I have many duplicate files from having to reinstall Leopard twice in two months on my Desktop. Is there a program that I can use to help clean up my hard drive? All these files are using up a lot of space and are getting annoying. I do not want to go through the files one at a time to delete. Thanks. I know about Spring Cleaning (I think that is what it's called) but was wondering if there were any other programs out there.

Hello, TinkerTool and OnyX both have features to delete old folders, caches, previous iTunes libraries. You can find them on Apple's download site, just write them in the search window. You can also google in "clear duplicate files" and include your Mac model and find even more. The two I offered you to look at are fee and trusted. Use them with care.

  • Too many duplicates in library

    Hello,
The duplicate list says there are over 200 duplicates in my library.  I have already deleted some of them through windows explorer.  Is there a way to refresh the itunes library so the deleted items don't show up in the duplicate list any ore.  Any other option besides clicking 2000 times to remove them 1 by 1, or deleting the entire library and starting over?  Thanks you any help you can give!  Kathleen

Apple's official advice on duplicates is as above... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls, such as lost ratings or playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

  • Lots of Duplicates in Itunes library

I recently bought a Seagate external drive to back up my music, among other things, to using SyncToy. When finished I went to look at the results and found that SyncToy had not backed up all my music and those backed up had a lot of duplicates. Not so concerned about SyncToy here but if anyone knows why it didn't back up everything I would appreciate the help.
The problem is the duplicates in the library.. Some CDs had none. Some had incomplete song titles with a correct title included. Some had duplicates of every title with a (2) at the end. Some were duplicated with no indication of any differences. I did check the file size often enough (by hovering over the title) to generalize they were the same size. Sometimes there are 3 files, two duplicates and one with a (2) at the end.
My library is "organized" in the Music under Itunes Media, I use Itunes 10.7 and do NOT want to "upgrade" to Itunes 11.
Any ideas where they came from? And if I can somehow get rid of them, will they come back? I recently subscribed to Itunes Match to rid my old purchases of copy protection, it worked but those matched songs have no more or less duplicates than those ripped from CDs. I have been using Itunes since about 2003, so the libraries have gone through many upgrades.
    Thanks for the help!

The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • First day with Icloud photo stream; so many duplicate photos?

Noob here! Just got my Ipad, Iphone and Mac on Icloud. I had to transfer many pics from windows (after much frustration trying to get my icloud working in windows I just copied them to a memory stick) and in the process have many duplicate photos in photo stream and probably a whole lot of other places. Is there any way I can scan for duplicates?
    Thanks for reading this

You can use one of these applications to identify and remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free
    Duplicate Annihilator
iPhoto Applescript to Remove Duplicates - free
I agree with Larry on  iPhoto Library Manager.

  • How do i find my original imovie event files. i have a lot of thumbnails, cache .mov, .mov. my events have many duplicates and i want to make space so how do i know which one is the original so i can transfer them to a usb and trash the rest? please help!

i need to delete the extra files but i want to know how to find my original ones.... i am going crazy i dont know why i have sooo many duplicates of my events....

Final Cut is a separate, higher end video editor.  The pro version of iMovie.
Give iPhoto a look at for creating the slideshow.  It's easy to assemble the photos in an album in iPhoto, put them in the order you want and then make a slideshow of them.  You can select from various themes and transitions between slides and add music from your iTunes library.
When you have the slidshow as you want use the Export button at the bottom of the iPhoto window and export with Size = Medium or Large.
Save the resulting Quicktime movie file in your Movies folder.
Next, open iDVD, choose your theme and drag the QT movie file into the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Then follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
The reason I suggest iPhoto is that I find it much easier to use than iMovie (except for the older iMovie 6 HD version).  Personal preferences showing here.

  • I try to open I photo and  I get the message, your iPhoto library is damaged...please restore from backup. But i din't made backup copy. How can i delete previous library and work wrom the new one?

I try to open I photo and  I get the message, your iPhoto library is damaged...please restore from backup. But i din't made backup copy. How can i delete previous library and work wrom the new one?

Try this (assuming you're using iPhoto 12): make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
      Fix #1
delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
    Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How do I delete duplicates in the library?

Although iPhoto does ask you about duplicates when importing from the camera, sometimes duplicates occur anyway. Because of recent problems with my library there are no many duplicates in my recovered and restored library. Is there an easy way to search out and delete duplicate photos once they are in the library?
The version is actually iphoto '09

I had a library on both desk top and lap top but kept them separate. Somehow the one on the lap top got messed up so I have been trying to be sure I didn't lose photos by going back to various folders where I had kept some and importing them into the library on the desk top, However, I think the dates got messed up on some and for some reason on the imports iPhoto did not catch all the duplications. I did not intentionally at least import one library into another.
So I will try Duplicate Annihaliator. I assume it is relatively safe to use.
    Thanks

  • When I open my itunes it freezes and asks me to downlaod the newest version. I always check the "dont ask me again" box and it always ASKS ME AGAIN. I dont need any more duplicates in my library so how do I stop this feature from popping up?

Im tired of this feature popping up everytime I open itunes. I alwasy check the box that say dont ask again, and it cointinually pops up. I dont want to download new version of itunes so how do I stop this?

Thanks for the reply! Ill try to change the preferences as you mentioned. However, everytime Ive ugraded my itunes it adds duplicates to my library, which I then have to delete (if I have time to waste). With 10,000 songs this gets very annoying as Im sure you can imagine. Im also know that there are even software programs to delete duplicates from itunes libraries as seen here: http://www.tucows.com/preview/507304
I do thank you for your answer and apprciate the help.
    Cheers~
