I am getting pop up ads whenever on the web

Got a Macbook Air. After searching the web for a tool to convert a YOUTUBE video to MP4, and trying several, I am getting pop up ads everywhere no matter which search engine.
Tried to check for unusual things in applications, library etc.

This may solve your problem:

    Only download software from the developer's web site.

  • Getting Pop Up Ads on my Mac Book Pro All of a Sudden, Regardless of Which Browser I use (Chrome, Safari, FireFox)

    I'm getting Pop Ads via Google Chrome / Safari / Firefox all of a sudden in the last 2 weeks. I use a Mac Book Pro OS X (10.6.4). I've never had pop up problems w/ Mac before, I've been using Mac for a few years.  I've also been using Google Chrome ever since it came out and haven't had any pop ups occur.  However, in the last 2 weeks, I'm getting pop ups all the time.  Sometimes when I click a link, it redirects me to a pop up first.  My settings on Chrome are still set to "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups."  However, they are still popping up.  How do I stop the pop ups?
    Updates:
    Also, even if I don't click a link, I'm getting pop ups. 4/24/11
    I've ran 2 different Anti-Virus programs (Sophos & MacScan) and done a full scan w/ both and it comes back as clean --> no virus / malware detected.  Also, seems like i'm also getting pop ups on Safari and FireFox as well.  Altho the frequency on those is less than Google Chrome.  Any other Mac user facing this issue? 11:21 AM

    THIS PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!!  5 DAYS & COUNTING AND NO POP UP ISSUES!   I came across a blog (can't remember which one now) and realized maybe its not my Mac, maybe its the DNS (Wireless) that I'm connected to that is corrupt. I noted what my DNS address was by clicking on the Apple icon on the upper left hand corner of my laptop and then navigating to System Preferences > Network > Advance (button) > DNS (tab) on Mac. I don't know anything about how DNS stuff works, but I am in a location where there are several restaurants / coffee shops around me with free wi-fi. So, I went and connected to a different restaurant's free wifi. Then I went back and checked my DNS address and it had changed to something new. And under the new DNS address, I haven't had any redirects yet! I went back and tested all the links via Safari that I was previously getting redirected from (including this one) and no redirect issues! YAY!!! Since then, I've been using a wireless card device w/ a different DNS.  5 days later, I still haven't gotten any pop ups!!!  So, I guess the issue was w the DNS (wireless) that I was using, not with my laptop. Hope this helps anyone else that may get this issue, worked for me!

  • I keep getting pop up ads on all my browsers since I installed mackeeper

    I installed mackeeper yesterday thinking it was an apple-made app. Upon realising it wasn't I promptly uninstalled it following instructions online. I think I managed to delete the whole thing (using the uninstaller), but now I'm getting heaps of pop up ads even though all my block pop ups are activated. I don't even need to click a link and a random ad comes up. I've never had problems with ads popping up unless I'm on a free video streaming site (which I rarely am, and even after I leave those pages I don't get anymore ads popping up). So I think it's got to do with the stupid mackeeper app that was installed. Can anyone help me out? I'd rather not have to install anymore stuff to prevent pop ups when I've never had this problem in the past without needing an extra blocker app installed.
    Thanks in advance.

    If  you do not want to  install additional software, use the method given by Apple.

  • How do I get pop-ups to open in the same screen Firefox is on?

    I have 3 monitors at work for the 10-15 programs/windows I need open all day. The problem is that my normal work requires a pop-up from our company's ticketing system, hosted on a website. That pop-up always occurs on the upper left-hand corner of the main display while Firefox is open on the second display. ***I'd like it to open in front of the current Firefox window*** instead of on a completely different display. How can I achieve this?
    Before you say "Move Firefox to the main display", I'd like to add that I'm using Citrix for multiple other programs and it has the same annoying habit. I can't have them both on the same display since I need to see them both at once. I'm also trying to find a solution for Citrix doing this. Whichever app gets fixed first gets a home on the second display.

    That user's company policy preventing using new software to solve the problem. Do you have any restrictions on possible add-ons or utilities?

  • How do  I get an iPhoto slide show onto the web?

    Aloha:
    I made a slide show in iPhoto 8.0 with 31 pictures and background music. It works great in iPhoto and I can export it to Quicktime 7.3 and it also works great there. The file size is about 119 megs, so I would like to get it on the web for distribution. However, all exports to the web are grayed out. What are my choices?
    Thanks
    Dan Page

    Dan:
    You'll have to use a 3rd party application to reduce the size to a more manageable size. Quicktime Pro can reduce the size. VisualHub is another recommended app. I've been looking at Video2SWF, an application to convert the movie files to flash which are a lot smaller.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Has anyone managed to get Authorware 7 Content Working on the Web

    Hi I get this message when I try to get the web player working
    Can anyone help!!
    [email protected]

    I used classes12.jar with a 9.2 database without any problems. JDBC calls, XA Datasources as well as CMP calls worked fine.
    I think the ojdbc14.jar is required for use with a 1.4 JDK.
    Of course, there might be features in 9.1 that might require the new jar.
    Just mentioning that the jar did not pose me problems. Adding this information so it might help the OP narrow down the source of error.

  • How to get a form parameter and refresh the web web page itself?

    I thought its easy as a piece of cake. But what I found out is that somehow it is getting the parameter after the web page is refreshed!
    Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
    for navigation method
       //navigation method
        public Object refresh()
            return Navigation.HOME;
        }for web page
    <h:commandLink value="Regenerate resutls"  action="#{bean.refresh}">
                       <f:param name="algorithm" value="#{HomeMBean.algorithm}"/>
                    </h:commandLink>

    What I am trying to say here is:
    for a web page, I want to refresh the web page based on a parameter chosen by users,
    In web page:
    <h:commandLink value="Regenerate resutls"  action="#{bean.refresh}">
                <f:param name="algorithm" value="#{HomeMBean.algorithm}"/>
    </h:commandLink>in managed bean:
        //navigation method
        public Object refresh()
            return Navigation.HOME;
        }also in managed bean:
    String algorithm = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().
    getExternalContext().getRequestParameterMap().get("algorithm");
            logger.debug("parameter="+algorithm);What I observed is I will never get the parameter "algorithm" before the web page is refreshed. In other words, the method setAlgorithm() is always called after the web page is rendered.
    I in fact want to render the web page based on the parameter "algorithm".
    I spent quite a lot time on it but can't figure out why.
    My guess is for managed beans, I can't rely on one property to generate another property, is that right?
    How should I solve this problem? Thanks a million!

  • I've started getting pop-under ads every time I launch Firefox, and the uninstall instructions don't make sense, how can I stop these?

    In the past couple of weeks, every time I launch Firefox, a full-size pop-under ad is also launched, regardless of what site I'm browsing.
    The original ad was for a You Tube survey, and contains a link to coupondropdown.com, where there's a menu option for uninstalling. The uninstall instructions don't make sense, they don't mention what ad-on is controlling the ads, and I can't work out what's responsible for the ads from my very basic range of ad-ons.
    The reason I'm writing is that the ads have progressed from annoying but harmless, to dangerous. The ad today was designed as a warning pop-up, text reads, "Threat Detected: Immediate Action Required. Fatal Registry Error ... click "Repair All" to eliminate all possible threats and clean your PC". I have screenshots of all the above.
    I'm worried that another user, my son or mother, might take this warning seriously and install malware by accident. What can I do to prevent these ads? I expect this type of malware advertising on dodgy websites, but I'm getting them when I try to access hotmail, the news, etc, so it's not the website that's causing them.

    Found the source using Microsoft Safety Scanner on a full scan. The culprit was a Trojan:Win32/Sirefef!cfg

  • Skype Premium Account; still getting pop-up ads.

    Ads are popping up in the client for Skype credit and Skype premium, despite having a paid premium account in good standing.  I contacted support and was told by two different agents that I had to purchase Skype credit on top of the Premium account to get rid of these ads.
    http://www.skype.com/en/premium/ specifically states that a Premium Account has NO advertisements, not SOME advertisements.  This smacks of false advertising.
    In addition, I get an error pop up in the client if I try to save my options settings with call forwarding enabled that states "You need to have some Skype Credit to forward calls to mobiles or landlines" despite that being included in my premium subscription.  I can set up call forwarding via the website with no trouble, and it works fine, but then I am unable to change my skype settings without deactivating it and going through the whole process again to get it active.

    Hello,
    I've escalated this issue for further examination. Thank you for reporting it.

  • I just updated to the newest Firefox 9.0.1 and now I get pop up ads as a new tab that takes over my web session. Firefox also crashes my whole computer and restarts it. I am running Windows XP Pro.

    Pop Ad tabs include ad, when I close it asks if I'm sure I want to leave the page. I say yes and then there is another survey ad that says I may have won something. This whole process requires at least 4 denials before I can get the page to close.
    Periodically my computer will freeze and restart when I am using Firefox.

  • I get pop up ads for stuff n the AppStore when playing games... Fine except they won't close out and lock up my iPad how do I fix

    Apps pop up when I play match with friends... One certain app locks up my game. It won't let me close it out. If I click "free" to download and get it off screen it just sits there with the circle going round and around like it's working.. It's been on my screen now for 3 days every time I open the game that's what I see. Can anyone help me fix it?

    Have you tried closing the App Store app via the multitasking bar and seeing if it works properly when you re-open it ? Double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the App Store app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
    If that doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Get pop up window when leave the WD page

    HI,
       I always get a pop up window says "Please wait! Closing the application" when i leave the page which is inital running Web Dynpro applicaton url.
       Is there any way we can disable the pop up?
    thanks

    Hello Martin,
    I have used this DLL before and wasn't asked to choose a codec. Maybe if you use all three functions (init, write, close), it works without problems. Here's a example that uses IMAQ hardware to acquire an 8-bit image at 30fps and writes each image to an avi file.
    There are utilities to examine dlls (see what functions are exported and what the dependencies are, but you can't see source code since it is compiles.) Check out QuickView or DependencyWalker.

  • Since my last update I keep getting a big ads box on the screen & get get rid of it. It literaly blocks my emails & can't even be shrunk. How do I get rid of it

    A black box pops up on either top or bottom of the screen that automatically opens on it's own & than shows a small section of open add once you actually close it. It actually blocks me from seeing some things because there is no X shown to close & make that box disappear & is ALWAYS in the way. I did notice that happened after the last Firefox update. Honestly if I can't get rid of it I"m going to UN-install Firefox & go back to Windows only because it's blocking me access to my work.

    Hi BigCountrySwtP, thank you for identifying the particular extension.
    Normal updates do not include any extensions. If you are offered a link to update Firefox while browsing, you may want to ignore it and instead check for a legitimate update using
    Help > About Firefox > "Check for Updates" button
