I am going to create my own website

i am going to make a website dedicated to the video ipod. with free pictures videos and maybe some mp3's. anyone think this is a good idea

anyone think this is a good idea
I'm sure some would find a user inspired iPdod dedicated site interesting to say the least. Posting of copyright material could, of course, present a problem. On the other hand, the posting of your own or public domain material in an iPod compatible MPEG4 and/or H.264 format would likely be very desireable for many users who are having problems performing such conversions themselves or who simply don't have the time for such activities.

  • Any suggestions on hosting my own website with OS X Server?

I am currently taking the International Baccalaureate programme, taking visual art as a higher level subject. And my university counselor os suggesting me to create my own website as an online portfolio for all my work, I have a 2010 MacBook hanging around that I don't really use and should be capable to host a server from my home. Just before I go right in and buy OS X Server is there anything else I should know about hosting my own website for an online pro to flip? Think of it as an online gallery. Thanks ahead!

Actually another thing, I'm trying to see what software I can use to make my website, I don't want to use iWeb it's just a little to rudimentary (in my opinion). Any other web development software that is user friendly and can create semi professional websites? Would be best if no coding is involved since I have no idea how to.

  • So what now? Will Apple ditch iWeb? They could at least tell us what's going to happen. If they ditch the app I'll ditch Apple. After all I bought the Macs for my wife so she could make her own websites.

iWeb will still function, even after being ditched by Apple, so your wife can continue creating beautiful webpages.

  • How do I create a new Sharepoint site at Home to connect with our own Website?

How do I connect our website with our home computer.
I am not linked with a company server site - just what has been created with the website, so how do I connect to a server or that server; know the server details and how can I link my Sharepoint with my website.

Your question has not answered mine.
Please respond to my next question as posted 1 March 2015 and re-posted:
I have created a website - purchased a domain name and have started to build my own website for public viewing.
I use Sharepoint at work so I am familiar in using webpages and creating them. I have Sharepoint 2010 & office 365 at home and would like to be able to use Sharepoint to manage and create new pages on my website as I am finding that it would be easier
to manage the website as I am familiar with using Sharepoint.
I have not completed any formal IT training and therefore don't know how to create the link between my website and Sharepoint on my private PC.
I have read pages and watched videos and they reference back to 'your IT department will create the link for you' - as this is for my private PC, I don't have an IT department to create this for me, I have to do this myself.
Are you able to direct me to a refer point on how to create the link please?

  • Is this the start... Verizon is blocking Google Wallet which is very nice, and you probably don't know they are creating their own Verizon Wallet

I have been with this company for over 10 years and frankly I always overlooked one thing wasn't to keen on and that was some of the services Verizon offered on their website which many of the account related services they have as apps so you can view from your phone are good and useful.  I have been an Android user since the first Moto Droid to the Incredible and Inc2, then I though I was gonna go iphone, until I was able to use one for a month.  Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad it was my brothers 4G on another network when he upgraded to the 4GS.  Anyway no real problems other than Android just has more to offer so I went with the Nexus Galaxy and stayed with Verizon, after I was flipping a coin to go to Sprint.  Anyway the reason I am leaving Verizon is due to their attempt to create apps to try to compete with googles apps and Verizon charges...  you can find most for free from the droid market(which is the Play store now) such as Navigation.  The free Google Nav is awesome, I also have google voice(free)  so I get text messages emailed to me and vmails emailed and texted to me as well as being able to listen straight from phone by pushing play by the missed call.  Verizon continutes to create these apps that also cost money and aren't near as good.  I actually feel bad for the people who think the VZ nav is in fact the google nav.  Now they are blocking a new service of Google's called Google Wallet.  It's free and really cool, but Verizon blocks you from installing it or using it and Verizon is spending over a 100,000,000 dollars to create their own Wallet APP  that i'm sure won't be free.  So it's not that one app as to why I am leaving, its a number of things that as an experienced user and add the fact that  I work in the tech industry, in sales that I Verizon taking advantage of customers, and I don't work that way or like it.   Okay you go buy a verizon phone, it will have the VZ Nav right there on the home screen, however there will be no google Nav, and for newbies they usually think this is the navigation everyone talks about.  You have to go download the Google Maps which is a turn by turn navigation always up to date and is awesome.  I watch my kid driving down the road at all times for free.   My point is now that their blocking Google Wallet because they are creating there own wallet, which won't be as good, and probably cost money to even spend money meaning they will charge for it.  What is the next brilliant thing that Google comes out with  that you can intergrate into your Google services.    So what is the point of trying to compete with Google on apps, I mean the Verizon wallet?  Why it makes no sense.  Why block an app thus not giving you the luxery.  They have their reasons of course such as security, and other reasons that it could cause problems but, hey if you dare to spend the outrageous amount of money to activate your hostspot to connect your computer wirelessly in a park.  75% of the people who do this are going to be on an unsecured network that anyone can connect to even with security turned on.  So they say there worried about security on the wallet app, because someone may cold get access to your small amount that most people keep on the google wallet but the wireless hotspot is putting much more that money out there. it's putting personal things and files on your computer out there.  I just dont' get why they can't provide their songs and ring tones and apps that allow you to see you data usage and leave the apps for the Google market.  For you who don't know please download google maps and you will have an awesome navivation.  Also google talk, voice, chat, and there apps on the google market for free such as a punch clock for time.  I saw one for over $14 on the verison app store.  So stick to what you are good at ,and don't block apps that other companies aren't blocking including at&T now, and they were in on the $100,000,000 to create this app along with Tmoblie and Verizon.  I use an android because of the capapbilites that google gives you, and the apps that they offer for free or no money.  Go look in the Verizon apps and see how much you will pay.  Most that cost money come preinstalled on your phone so all you have to do is use it and you start getting charged.  This is a 3 year decision making.  I don't like that people can easily get charged for services without even knowing just because the app was installed and they used it once.  Just stay with what your good at and let the android users rightly use the google apps.  After all Google Saved your business if you really want to think about it.  If you didn't have the android OS, how many sales would you be getting?  Where would your company be.  This app was developed by Google which means it ties into everything else such as making online payments with the google card.  Blocking APPS developed by the developer of the Operating System that single handedly changed  the game, and has Made  you as a company far better off than you would have ever been had they not developed android.  Not a good Idea.  Bite the hand that feeds you.

  • Blocked From Accessing My Own Website CMS

Hi, I wonder if anyone can shed some light on an odd problem which arose out of the blue two days ago. I operate two iMacs (new types) on a network, with Leopard 10.5.2. We have ADLS broadband, and network using an Airport Express. I have several websites, one of which has a cpanel and is set up with a CMS on the server - to access this, I need to log in to the administrator using a user name and a password. On Sunday afternoon, while working in the CMS online, my admin session suddenly expired and since then I have not been able to log into my own website to work on it. Oddly, my husband's user name and password is also being blocked. Yet, even more oddly, when I log in using either username and password on my husband's iMac, there is no problem! The message from my website is that the username and password are incorrect. I have to use Firefox to work on my website, so after restarting my Mac, I emptied the cache on Firefox, deleted the passwords in key chain, and when none of this work I deleted my old version of Firefox and downloaded a new version. All to no avail. As my husband's computer is able to access the site, I assume that the Airport isn't the problem, but there is something going awry in my Mac. I have had my webmaster check that my Mac IP isn't being blocked by my website - which I think would exclude my Mac from accessing it - but she says everything is fine at her end. She is also not Mac savvy, so if the problem lies in my Mac she can't help. Can anyone suggest anything???

Have you tried clearing ALL private data? It's under the tools menu and make sure you check cookies and saved passwords as well. It could quite likely be pulling credentials from a cookie stored on your machine or from a saved password if FF does not use the keychain (I cant remember if it does).
As an extra troubleshooting test if this doesnt work, you could try either logging into another account, or if none is available create a temporary account to log into and test it from there. This would indicate a preference problem most likely and you could then clear the problem files from your home directory's library.

  • Please help with Hosting Presenter presentation on my own website

    Someone please help!
I would like for my presenter presentation to play within my own website.
    1)  I have published my files locally to my desktop.
    2)  I have uploaded this folder to a space on my server hosted by hostgator.
Now that the files are there, how do I make the presentation play so that users can see this?  I would like for users to click on a hyperlink that goes to the presentation.
I've tried using iframe but cannot get it to work.  Which file should I call?
Detailed instructions would be VERY helpful!!!
    Thanks!

First you create your Presenter project and then publish it for My Computer /
The on your website, create a sub directory off of your root web site:
    http://www.yourwebsite.com/new_dicrectory
Then upload your project to the new subdirectory.
Point your browser to http://www.yourwebsite.com/new_directory and the index.htm file will load automatically and run your project from your web site.
It will also work if you point to http://www.yoursite.com/new_directory/index.htm.
    Good luck.

  • Can you create your own Themes

Please help I'm new to iweb and I'm trying to figure out who to create my own theme, complete with my own color palette, fonts etc? I maintain my sororities website and everything has to be pink and green but I would like for our site to have the professional look iweb provides without all of the hassel of custom coding. I just need a few text pages, calendar, photo album, etc. Feel free to check out our current site if will help you point me in the right direction. http://www.akaupsilontauomega.org/
    thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. To create a complete theme with all the different pages takes considerable coding knowledge.
I think it would be more expedient to start with a blank page of the white theme and add your shapes, colors, photos, etc. that you want to use. Be careful regarding use of non web safe fonts. If you do it can change how the site looks when viewed by visitors on PCs which might not have that font on their machine. See the following regarding web safe fonts:

  • How can I upload projects to my own website?

When I create my own photo slide shows, or collages or whatever I want to be able to just upload them to my own personal website.  Just like you can with the Jalbum software. I tried using the option to upload them to the website Adobe creates for you on their website but it doesn't work properly.  Photos are blank and/or missing, and it's a hassle to notify people of it, etc.  I want to know if there is a way to save them in HTML format or whatever so you can just upload them to your own personal website with out having to use Adobe's website and you can just share it that way. Thanks for your help and time!

You would need to be a little more specific about what effects. Banners for example...

    Hi,
Indexing all fields in a record is possible in BDB but is fairly expensive since an index record will be written for every field. If you have a relatively small data set then perhaps this is not a problem, but be sure to do performance testing.
The common approach is to use a single secondary database (index) to create a many-many relationship. The key for this index will include the field name as well as the field value. This means that all fields can be indexed, including new fields that are added, using a single index and without changing code when new fields are stored.
Indexes are created using Environment.openSecondaryDatabase. In the SecondaryConfig that you pass to this method:
      - Call setSortedDuplicates(true) since more than one record can have the same key.
      - Call setMultiKeyCreator(...) since the index will contain multiple keys for a single record.
You implement the SecondaryMultiKeyCreator interface to extract the keys from your JSON record. This returns a set of keys, one for each field you want to index.
The format of the index key can be anything you'd like (as you know BDB uses byte arrays for keys). For example, you could use a string of the form NAME:VALUE as the key, so that you could do your lookups using that format. To serialize a string as bytes, use a class in com.sleepycat.bind.tuple such as StringBinding.
To do your lookups, pass your index key (NAME:VALUE) to SecondaryDatabase methods such as get().
See the javadoc for SecondaryDatabase, SecondaryConfig, SecondaryMultiKeyCreator. An example is in examples/je/ToManyExample.java.
Would something like that work for you?

  • Aperture Web galleries and own website integration - how flexible are they?

I've mainly been learning Aperture's photo management and adjustments and until today have ignored web albums and books.
Just had a play with making your own galleries for the web and I love the integration of captions. Was thinking I would have to rewrite all of these for my own website. At this stage does the Aperture webpages offer key word searching for website visitors? I'm guessing not but that would be a cool feature. I'm tired of waiting for google etc to work out searching jpeg embedded iptc data.
My main concern is how adaptable are the Aperture webpages to integration with one's existing website. The original concept of my own website was to add an image gallery with shopping cart facilities where people can click on an add to cart icon below each image. Would it be easy to integrate shopping cart facilities to the Aperture generated webpages?
I also wanted to have articles which use my images - I guess the webjournal could be used for that. Again, would it be possible to integrate a shopping cart into that as above?
One last dumb question - I exported a webgallery with one image just as an experiment and see it creates an index.html file. If I want to integrate this into my website (which already has an index file) do I just change the Aperture index file to something like imagegallery.html with an appropriate link on my own website. Or is it more complicated? And what about images I add later on and then export. Do they go to the same export folder and does changing the index file complicate this?
    Thanks for any help,
    Ross

i have posted a thread in the Aperture Assistant forum about this, and am looking for the same functionality.
yes you can use an external solution like SmugMug or Zenfolio, but to be able to have a synchronised gallery that clients can make selections, that update your library in a synchronised system would be second to none.

I have a mobleme account and an existing iweb website. I would like to create a second website with a registered domain name. How do I do this?

All you need to do is create your second site in iWeb, move it to the top of lhe list of sites in the left hand pane and publish to your MobileMe account. You must make sure the second site has a different name from the first.
Then setup domain name forwarding to the second site following Apple's instructions here: iWeb: Using your own domain name. You will need to setup forwarding at your domain name provider also.
The key is that the second site (with the domain name) must the top top size in iWeb.
Note:  with MobileMe scheduled to be discontinued on June 30, 2012, you might begin looking into obtaining another host.  When you do you'll find that both sites will need to have a domain name.
When the time comes take a look at HostExcellence.com.  I've had excellent results with it. They have a couple of packages that offer free domain names.  And most important they have outstanding 24/7, ear-to-ear customer support.

  • Help creating a new website

I've created a few websites previously, and I've been attempting to improve on them each time. I found this image, for a website I really liked the design of:

However despite trying different methods I really don't know how to go about creating something similar.
Any help would be much appreciated,

And while I can create the features on the page I have no idea how to add the transparancy and put them on top.
You do have a ways to go, but if you are interested in learning then you are on the right path.
Creating a background is one step, but implementing the background is another.  When you design something it is a fixed size, so depending on the resolution of the screen will depend on what your user's see and how they view the page.  So do you need regions to repeat?
As far as transparency is concerned, you can do CSS transparency which is only available in newer browsers or use PNG transparency with images.  The PNG method will work in IE7 and newer, but if IE6 is a concern, then users won't see the transparency.
A good tutorial to read over is the following: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_fw_css_pt1.html .  It is a good explanation of how to turn a design into HTML and the process that goes into it.
But as gramps said, we need to see what you have going on and where you need help.  Think of users here like teachers, here to guide you to your answer.

  • Creating a second website

We built a website for my wife, now we need to build a seperate one for me. When I open iWeb it open s with her site. Then when I click "New Site" in the pulldown menu it starts the project with her's still showing. I don't want to mess up her site. Is there a way that I can do this on the same computer without her site showing up?

That's the way iWeb is and behaves.
    Read this :
         The concept of iWeb Sites
One solution is to create a user account for your wife on your computer.
Then she can create her own site. The only thing you have to keep in mind that when she publishes to the same webhosting account as you do she will overwrite the index.html file that is already there.
And when you change the default page in your site, iWeb will create, again, a new index.html file.
And so on, and so on.
Or simply add that second site to what you now have. Understand that the Site at the top of the list is the default one. The one that shows first when your visiter enters your website without specifying a sitename or a pagename.
Unless she has her own webhosting account. Then your site and hers will not interfere.
Here's an eleborate explanation of using sites on the same server :
How to publish to a subdomain with iWeb
Read it all and especially the part about the dummy site :
How to avoid overwriting the index.html file in the root
You may have to practice. Consider it a mental exercise.
