I am have problems with firefox 5& 6. It does not display correctly. I have tried the no squint and the internal zoom. Some pages load ok, others like yahoomail, load tiny unless I zoom and then other pages have problems. Why? What else can I be doing?

I am frustrated. With the no squint, which has a mind of its own, then some pages are fine, in others the type is too big or too small for the frames. If I use the default Firefox zoom that is no better. I have to set things for like 130 percent and am constantly having to click on the zoom and change things. I never had that with previous versions? Why can't Firefox just go back to displaying text in the correct frames at a decent size?

I have played with all the options in no squint and the default zoom thing. My email list in yahoo remains tiny tiny, other things do not. If I enlarge that, then other things are too big. I never had this problem with older versions of firefox. I never had used any zoom features, it all sized itself correctly.
To troubleshoot, I tried to open the same things with chrome, and it had much less of a problem sizing the type etc.
I am kind of at my wits end here.

• Websites which have files with filenames including an underscore do not display correctly.

HTML files with Image files with an underscore in their name don't display the image files. They do display under Konqueror. Firefox displays the image files OK if you type their URL into the control bar. The URL below provides an example, and look e.g at the file. CEOHT_16months.jpg
Thank you.

No problems here with the images.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Have you tried the restart/reset/restore troubleshooting path? That would be the best initial set of steps to take, particularly in a situation like this.

• New user of Firefox. Webpage I made not displaying correctly in Firefox but OK in Win IE. Why is this?

Im new to Firefox. Just found out the website Im maintaining does not display correctly with Firefox but OK with Win IE. Why is this?
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened

I'm going to make a prediction here:
The webpage will contain a lot of code written specifically to the non-standards compliant way IE works, and will also "not display correctly" in the following standards compliant browsers:
Chrome
Safari
Opera
and the solution will be to code the pages according to the standards meant to be followed so it displays correctly in all non-IE browsers, '''then''' see how it displays in IE.

I'm using windows 7, trying to download pictures from my canon 5d mark 2, but when I click import, the camera does not appear. I've tried changing USB ports, switching the camera on and off, trying a different USB cord, tried a different camera, but nothing. Please help! This problem only started a few days ago on lightroom 3.6, upgraded to 5.5, but still not working. Thanks.

Can you see the Canon EOS camera and image files using Windows Explorer? If not disconnect the camera, close all applications' shutdown Windows, and TURN OFF the power to your system and ALL connected devices. Disconnect all phones, iPads, and any other USB devices and restart your system.
Retry Windows Explorer and see if your camera is showing. If so try LR import again.

• Dragging and dropping an item within horizontalList does not display correctly

It appears that when I drag an item from a HorizontalList to another location within the same HorizonList, it does not display the images correctly. In my HorizontalList, I have an itemRenderer that shows the thumbnail image of the item. I have about half a dozen items in the list and when I drag the sixth item and move to the beginning of the list, the display looks as if the first and the sixth element are switched, while in reality the resulting dataProvider array seems to have the right order, meaning the sixth element became the first element and the first element became the second element and so on. Has any one seen such a behavior and how do I rectify this? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Ramesh
The HorizontalList def is
<mx:HorizontalList id="myList" width="92%" height="100%" columnWidth="90" rowHeight="105" rollOverColor="#f26722"
itemRenderer="com.myListRenderer" labelField="name" dataProvider="{arr}" columnCount="10"
click="updateView(event)" dragEnabled="true" dropEnabled="true" dragMoveEnabled="true" >
</mx:HorizontalList>
The renderer code is

<mx:VBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" verticalScrollPolicy="off" horizontalAlign="center"
verticalAlign="middle" width="90" height="90" verticalGap="0" creationComplete="init()" >
<mx:Script>

private function init():void {
imageFile.source = data.url;
imageName.text = data.name;

</mx:Script>
<mx:Image id="imageFile" scaleContent="true" width="90" height="70" horizontalAlign="center" verticalAlign="middle"/>
<mx:Label id="imageName" height="18" width="90" textAlign="left"/>
</mx:VBox>

Hi Alex,
In your blogpost on itemRenderers, you discussed something relevant in a brief section on "Background color changes when data changes". However, I could not find any reference for use on dataChange event handler. Can you pelase point me to the right article?
Implementing dataChange event instead of creationComplete did not solve my issue. I still had the issue. Thanks, Ramesh

tried to update my site with a couple of cues and the wheels have completely come off. i cannot get the site to display correctly.
it looks a bit better if i open the page directly from the computer, but after sending it to ftp host it will not load up properly in the browsers.
i have no idea what is going on and i rather desperately need that site back up and running
help!!

This is happening probably because the text encoding on your server end is set wrong. Or perhaps your FTP program is doing the encoding differently. This is commonlly seen when uploading iWeb pages to 3rd party servers and can be corrected.
Our own Tom Gewecke has a nice writeup about these strange looking characters that can appear. He also has some suggestions about what to check and what to do. Check it out and see if any of it might be relevant to your situation. If not come on back and we'll keep trying to troubleshoot with you...

• Text does not display correctly on web page

Much more often than I like, I will find what seem like randomly selected 'foreign' characters replacing punctuation marks (I think) that should be there on web sites. The following text is an example-
"This download is provided “as is” and has no warranty. If you are not satisfied with "
I have wondered if it was a result of using a display font that didn't include whatever character was supposed to be there or if it was because I specified the wrong default encoding, but nothing I've specified in the Options makes any difference.

This issue can be caused by the bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or another (bitmap) font that can't be displayed by Firefox in that font size.
Firefox can't display that font in the specified size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or find a True type version of that font that doesn't have the problem.
Try this test to see if the Helvetica font is causing it (Copy & Paste the code in the location bar and press Enter):

data:text/html,<font face="Helvetica" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font><br><font face="Helvetica Neue" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font>

• Reports with output to excel - special characters not displayed correctly.

Hi,
I have a portal with data from 5 continents. In many places special or national characters are used in names. My portal can show most of these characters correctly and so can my version of Microsoft Office Excel. When text with these characters are copy/pasted from the screen to an excel sheet, they are also shown correctly in excel. The problem arises in portal reports, where output is set to Excel, then special characters are often displayed as strange double characters, for example á is shown as á . Does anybody have a solution to that?
Thanks
Arne

No answers have been posted yet and now I have found a solution myself. The portal report is run and output set to Excel. The resulting file is opened, and a new row is inserted in the top of the sheet. In the first field in this row is written the characters *\xEF\xBB\xBF*. It is called a UTF-8 BOM, and when written in the start of a text file, it will tell the program that opens it, that UTF-8 encoding is used.

The file is saved with the file type CSV (semicolon separated) (*.csv) and excel is closed. When you click on the CSV-file, it is opened by excel, and now all characters with accents, circumflexes and umlauts are shown correctly.

The solution was found here: http://www.roosmaa.net/importing-utf-8-csvs-in-excel/

My iMovie on my 2011 iMac does not recognized videos taken on my new iPad. Is there a way to correct this, or perhaps I am doing something incorrect. When I connected my iPad to my iMac, iPhoto popped up, but not iMovie.

You have to import the movie into iTunes via iOS file sharing, then drag the movie from the file sharing window in iTunes to the desktop, then you can import the movie into iMovie. Here are the details.

Firefox will show the link if nothing is blocking it...
In case an ad blocker, script blocker, or another extension is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
