I am having numerous problems with Safari 5.1....
It runs PAINFULLY SLOW on two different MacBook Pro's, one a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM, the other is a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB of RAM...
I am having issues with my Yahoo home page where I constantly get the error message "We noticed you may have signed in or signed out in another window. Click OK to reload your page". I have signed out, and back in and still get the same message...
On web pages that I go to that open a second page, it is never the right size, and I always have to resize it to read the information, or play a game...
Am I the only one having this problem, or what do I need to do to solve these issues.
Is this a fair summary of your problem?
You have unreasonably slow Internet performance on two different Macs, both running Lion.
It's slow on all networks.
It's slow on both WiFi and Ethernet.
Other devices on the same network are not slow.
No change in safe mode, or in the guest account.
No change after reinstalling Lion.
After removing Flash, things seemed to get better, but only briefly.
If all that is correct, then you have a very strange problem. I would have to start looking at logs, and since I don't have any experience with Lion myself, I wouldn't be sure what to look for. If it's an option for you to take one or both Macs to an Apple Store for diagnosis, I suggest you do that. Otherwise, please post extracts from the system log and the kernel log (not the console log) when you're having the slow performance. Both can be found in the Console application.

Anyone else having major problems with Safari 5.1 on Snow Leopard?
is anyone else having major problems with Safari 5.1 on Snow Leopard?
- address bar and search box are not resizing with browser window. the address bar and seach box set their size to the window when Safari is launched and remain that size.
- anytime i try to customize toolbar items disappear and i have to restart Safari to get them to appear.
- some 3rd party icons just remove themselves from the toolbar after a period of time
- when i drag a page from the tab bar to create it's own browser window the window disappears but is listed in the windows menu bar. when i select that window from the menu bar the window appears but i can't click on anything.
I've repaired permissions numerous times, reinstalled safari numerous times and restarted my machine numerous times and the issues all remain. i've never had any issues with Safari until now and 5.1 is looking like a huge mess.
besides the bugs above, has anyone had any luck with 1password working with Safari 5.1?ok, i narrowed most of my issues down to Web Snapper and Videobox by TastyApps. Removed both of those and now everything works better.
I went out to lunch and came back an hour later and magically ALL of my previous toolbar icons that were added to my previous version of Safari appeared. Very strange.
as for 1password, it wasn't working at all before when i posted. everytime i tried installing the extension via the app my, Safari would open a window and hang (never load). I just tried it again and it seems to now be working. -
I've been having a problem with Safari failing to load about 10-20% of pages.
Safari is returning the message 'failed to connect to server' but sites opening fine in other browsers so ISP connection seems fine.
Safari will repeatedly fail to open a page when it is on the same server/site as other pages that load correctly and I can navigate to other pages after a failed page load.
I'm also able to return an hour or so later and open the pages that failed but no idea why I'm getting temporarily blocked out from some pages/links.
Problem has only occurred in the last few days but seems persistant.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm using the latest version of snow leopard on a 2009 MacBook Pro.
Many thanks,
PaulHi...
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, it's free, and should fix the can't connect to server issue.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
Click +
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
208.67.222.222
Click +
208.67.220.220
Then click OK and restart your Mac.
More about OpenDNS here.

First off I want to start off by saying that I am a complete noob when it comes to computer repair. But since it wouldn't kill me if I lost the files on my computer and I plan on getting a laptop soon, I am willing to fiddle around and try to fix the issue with my desktop on my own. First off the fan on my cpu had begun to get progressively louder over the years as my hard drive got closer to capacity. And it seemed like the computer may have been getting hotter than optimal temperatures. At the present time I think the harddrive is completely full and may ultimately be what is causing my issues. Periodicly I started getting messages that my virtual memory was too low and that the system would make more room. At this time I would do a little housekeeping and delete some files in order to make more room. For a year and a half this computer had not been connected to the internet than last week I hooked it up and windows installed a bunch of auto updates (seemed to run quieter and cooler). I also deleted bitdefender and malwarebytes and installed Avira. Initially everything was working fine for a couple days (some lag at times but it had been lagging for a while) and than one day I left the system on and did some things around the house. When I came back my computer had powered down on its own. When I tried to reboot led's would turn on along with the fans and cpu but my monitor would not receive a signal. I turned the coputer off checked the cords, got rid of some dust within the case and than tried to reboot and got the same thing. After that I pulled the ram and cleaned the slots along with the riser board, and the cd drive and than tried to reboot after installation. If I remember correctly this time the monitor received the signal but the system froze at the hp start menu. After I shut it down and rebooted the monitor failed to receive the signal. At this point I decided to let the darn thing sit overnight and try again in the morning. I swopped out the ram and riser board with the ones in my father's d530 and got the same results. After about 6 hours or so I booted the computer up today and was able to start windows but when I tried to access the control panel the system froze. Initially I thought my graphics card had gone out, and than I read somewhere else that others had similar problems when their cpu went out but the fact that windows started today has me stumped. It seems like I can get further along in the startup process the longer I let my desktop sit powered off. Could it be an overheating issue?
This question was solved.
View Solution.You're very welcome.
If you are good at soldering, you should be able to to it. That website gives some tips as do other places, as you saw. Capacitors are cheap. Just make sure you get the right values.
Please post back if you go through with the repairs and let us know how it turned out.

I'm having major problems with Safari
Installed Mavericks on the following computer:
MacBook Pro
Retina, Mid 2012
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
Software OS X 10.9 (13A603)
Safari won't, but sometimes will, go to the URL.
The URL for the Apple forums is apple.com alone. Don't see https://discussions.apple.com with the rest of the URL. When I click on any other tabs I get the same https://discussions.apple.com/~~ URL.
Tabs don't work. Get Untitled Folders instead. Can only enter a URL in one window, so a new URL replaces the URL that is already there.
Safari stalled after I entered my Apple ID. Screen went white.
The Safari Preferences window won't close using the red go-away button. Have to logoff and login Safari.
Top Sites gone.
N.B. Installed Safari 6.1 before Mavericks because it said the Safari upgrade was for Mountain Lion. Got Top Sites and everything seemed to work. As soon as I installed Mavericks, it was a mess.
EDIT: Oh yeah, last action was to delete Safari plist with the hex numbers in the name in the ~/library/Preferences/ByHost folder, per instructions elsewhere on this forum.
Anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to download Safari and install again over Mavericks?
Message was edited by: mashamaxSOLVED IT. I used the GLIMS extension Uninstaller located at the link, and it fixed everything.

I'm having some problems with Safari in Vista.
I recently wiped my hard drive, and reinstalled Windows. Anyway reinstalling programs and I've come into a problem.
When I open Safari it gets stuck loading. It does this with any site.
All my other browsers work fine, and even with the firewall and stuff turned off it won't work. It worked fine before, but now it just won't do anything. Not even a page won't display thing.
It just gets stuck. Anyone know how to get it to work? Thanks. Is java 1.6.0.3 latest version installed?
have you tried removing the two user folders that Safari uses to store prefs, bookmarks, history and cache in? (don't delete, just rename or move aside).
For now, FF 3.0A is probably a better choice until later anyway. There are WebKit latest builds, but I don't know how to use or install those in Windows, but would be 10-19-2007 of the core foundation Safari uses. -
Numerous Problems with New TV@nywhere Master
Greetings all. A few days ago, I purchased a TV@nywhere Master card. I own two MSI mainboards and an MSI video card that I think are great, but so far this product has been nothing but junk. I am having numerous problems with it that I have not been able to resolve:
1. The remote control just plain doesn't work.
2. I am unable to adjust the TV volume within the MSIPVR tuner software. Turning it up and down or muting it does nothing. However, whenever I exit the program, it mutes the line-in jack on my sound card and doesn't unmute it when I run the program again! I have to run the Creative Surround Mixer and unmute the jack before I get any TV audio.
3. Originally when I booted up, the radio tuner kicked in with a fuzzy feed, even though the software was not running. I had to run the software and exit it to make this stop. I believe this has resolved itself.
4. The MSIPVR software seems very unstable.
I have tried updating all the software from the official MSI drivers page and I also tried the unofficial releases of both the drivers and the MSIPVR 3.0 beta from this forum. The 3.0 beta build seems even more unstable (though it is a beta so this is understandable), but none of my other problems have been resolved either. I've perused the forums looking for ideas, but haven't found anything that's worked. I've also tried all these steps on two different systems that I have with the same results.
I'm really shocked that MSI would release such a low-quality product as most of their other things are quite well made. I am looking to see if anyone has suggestions I can try to resolve this. I am interested in keeping this card if these can be fixed, but if not, I'll be returning this unit and picking up something from ATI instead. There's absolutely no reason for a card to be runnign this poorly and be in a shipping state.
Below are my system specifications should they be of any help:
AthlonXP 2800+ FSB333
MSI K7N2 Delta-L nForce 2
1024MB PQI PC3700 LL
Sound Blaster Audigy
ATI RADEON 9600XT
Promise FastTrak TX2000
2x40GB Western Digital 8MB (In RAID 0 Stripe)
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2

One more note (great stuff Stu:))... with regards to the remote... try to give it a slight extra push into the socket :D.
As stupid as it sounds, it happens :p... at least with me it did. I kept on trying to get the remote to work in the beginning, only to find out in the end that I hadn't played it ALL the way into the input socket. After the click, it worked.
I hope you can get the sound stuff working though. That's definitely a pain :(. I'm personally having issues with the original card and new software now... but yeah, I shall wait on your feedback first:).
OK, I've finally had some time to try out the various other suggestions that have been made and unfortunately, have met with no success. I tried changing my audio to CD In on my Audigy which still has the same sound problems. I also checked out the connection with the remote and it is in all the way. Still no go on that one. My power supply ratings are:
+5V: 35A Maximum/0A Minimum
+12V: 24A Maximum/0.8A Minimum
+3.3V: 28A Maximum/0A Minimum
-5V: 0.5A Maximum/0A Minimum
-12V: 1.0A Maximum/0A Minimum
+5V SB: 2.0A Maximum/0A Minimum
At this point, I'm pretty much at my wits end. If anyone has other ideas, I can entertain them, but tomorrow if I don't have this up, I'll be taking it back. This card is demonstrating itself as just poorly designed and built. Thanks for your help all! -
Is anyone else having this problem w/ Safari ?
Hi,
I've been having a problem with safari on occasion where the screen zooms in and out with each letter I type into a field. It doesn't seem to happen every time but when it does it's quite annoying and distracting. The other thing I've noticed is thats it's not always the same site either. For instance one day it was while I was typing a topic into the Wikipedia search field. Another day it happened while I was trying to unsubscribe to junk mail. It even happened once while trying to log onto this particular site.
Has anyone else had this problem and/or do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks in advanced.http://www.heathrowairport.com/portal/page/Heathrow%5EGeneral%5EFlightinformation%5ELive+flightarrivals/
Enter a flight number, now every time i type a character in the box strange thing happens with Safari, but if the iphone is in landscape mode it works normal

I am not too sure if thats a virus or trojan.. I always thought that macs didn't get virus? this looks like one to me… any experts around? please help me fix it with your instructions? really don't know what to do... thanksThose are not viruses. You have probably installed some malware:

An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
See these Apple articles:

OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using Dr.Web Light from the App Store. It's free, and since it's from the App Store, it won't destabilize the system. If you prefer one of the better known commercial products, then Thomas recommends using Sophos.(Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.) If you already use Sophos, then be aware of this if you are using Mavericks: OS X Mavericks- Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanner versions 8.0 - 9.1 may cause unexpected restarts
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
The facts are:
1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
protection against malware.
5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware. -
Hi, i have a MB Pro Intel C2D with Lion OS and i migrated the user to another MB Pro i5 Lion, after migrating I'm having a problem on Safari, it won't open and just crashing
Shouldn't be having a problem, then. That's the version for ML. Try taking your question to the Safari forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/safari - that's where all the Safari experts hang out.

My wife has been having problems with Safari, and many third party software and malware programs infecting her Mac Book Pro. I have tried to reset Safari but it keeps coming back, taking over Safari, changing defaults, start pages, and search engines, Etc.
Is it safe to use programs like MacKeeper, who keeps send my wife's computer message and alerts, or should I just wipe the drive and start over?

Anyone having problems with Safari on an external monitor with Lion?
I have an iMac with external second monitor. Upgrade to Lion. Aside from it being terribly slow, and having typing problems (where first letter appears 4th or 5th when beginning to type), I've noticed the following:
On iMac monitor, everything works fine.
On the external monitor, it's often impossible to fill in a form. Drag Safari over to the main monitor - no problem. Drag it back - still can't complete a form.
Another example: Netflix. Plays on either monitor. However, stopping and starting a movie with the mouse doesn't work. With the space bar, it does.
Overall terribly disappointed in what Lion has done to my computer. What exact problems are you having? I have been having intermittent problem with mine. Sometimes certain sites will not connect. I get a message that the server stopped responding. I open Firefox and it connects fine.
