I am having problems making DVD help

I have been trying to make a dvd of a play (2 hours in length). I made an IDVD project of full length of play and played DVD on my Poloroid and JVC dvd players and it was okay except for about 16 minuites of stuttering and video breaking up at certain parts in 2nd act.
I made a seperate file for Act 1 and Act 2 thinking I was trying to put to much video on one dvd. I then used disk utility to make dvd from img. file. Now dvd doesn't play at all on my Poloroid dvd player and still stutters and breaks up on JVC player. I just used IDVD to make a copy from the DVD project file (bypassing disk utility method) and the DVD will not play on either player. Plus my IDVD program is stuck in cleaning up done on Burn menu. can anyone help me????

OK. That's good.
Some times these palying issues are because of the burned media. That's why creating a disk image and using DVD Player software to check the project is the best way to do this. Then burn a DVD at 4X or slower. I'd stay away from Memorex and TDK discs. Verbatim DVD-R is very reliable.
But that doesn't solve your "stuck on cleaning up" problem. Is all of your RAM from Apple?
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...

This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

I have also tried the Mac superdrive but my imac wont recognise it as it's been configured for macbook air and mini mac. I know I can "make" it work by doing something or other in com.apple/plist, but dont want to mess about in there.
I'm also told an external drive would work but does "mac compatible" mean only for air and mini as their own superdrive is or all macs?
Any help appreciated before I convince myself mac is no better than windows pc!

I can buy the drives at a dozen places but none of them seem to know what connection is correct (SATA etc) and that includes the apple store. It was the store who told me buy the superdrive and all my problems would be over. Wrong! It isn't recognised by imac as it's confifured for air and mini mac. Only way to make it work is as i said in earlier post. (Would you be happy buying a car you were told would start and then discover you have to open the bottome and fiddle to make it go?)
The apple store I would not even consider taking it to. Days without the pc, over priced and don't have a good reputation for actually fixing things!

I have a document in CS4 that I'm exporting to pdf. When I create a hyperlink in CS4 to a file, I am getting the message when I click the link in the pdf ' Cannot find the file:C%5Document' etc.
When creating the link, File is selected, Shared Destination is unchecked & checking the link using 'Go to Destination' shows the link works.
In Acrobat 9 Pro, I've checked the properties of the link - when exported from CS4, the Link Properties - Actions are 'Open a web link' 'file:C:\Documents%20'etc whereas if the link is created in Acrobat the link properties are ' 'Open a file' 'file:C\Documents and Settings' etc, and it works.
Is this a bug or am I missing something?

I'm only getting that to work with the catalogue & sample in the same folder. In any case from a useability standpoint using URL brings up the Security Warning & putting the catalogue pdf in the same folder as 100 sample pdfs makes it more difficult to locate.
I'm at a loss to understand why the functionality of creating a link in InDesign cannot be the same as Acrobat; where you can select 'Open a file', browse to that file and the relative links are maintained when you burn to a disc. InDesign looks as if it will do the same but when you select File as the link & browse to the destination file but InDesign treats it as a URL & brings up the the web link cursor in the finished pdf. That still looks like a bug to me.

I am having problems making calls and sending text messages and now getting my iphone activated.

I have a iPhone 4 and I had problems sending texts and making calls so I got a new one. I then gave my boyfriend my old iphone snd told him if he could get it to work he could have it. For some reason we are having problems getting it to activate. it wont let us make calles to verizon or anything on it. I do still have a warranty on the phone so would I be able to send it in and get a new one? or how does that work?

Ok, I have a Standard DV 3:2 NTSC (16x9 Anamorphic) movie that I want to put on DVD for display on TV.
I started by dropping the entire 16x9 Anamorphic movie on to a regular 3:2 timeline being that I want that letterbox look.
Next I Exported from Final Cut using Quicktime Conversion 720x480 - 4:3 - No Preserve. Everything was fine at that point.
Next, I tried to burn the movie in DVD Studio Pro, but it did not except the .mov format, so I went to iDVD and burned it at Pro Quality - Standard 4:3.
This is where the problems began. The movie was horrible blurry & interlaced when any camera movement took place.
How can I export my movie from final cut pro so that the 3:2 Anamorphic can be viewed with the letter box look, and I can use DVD Studio Pro, and have it not be interlaced like it was in iDVD?
In general, how do the Pros export theres movies for DVD, so that they look great?

Thanks for the tutorials... I read through them, and now I have figured out what has been driving me crazy for 6 months now...
Big Question? Is it possible to export a 16x9 Anamorphic movie with larger letterbox on top and bottom of picture without cropping the image? I want more than the letterbox that is there after the regular export. I also want to use DVD Studio Pro, and not iDVD, but everything out of Quicktime Compression does not work with DVD Studio Pro.
With more letterboxingit looks more cinematic, and I actually achieved this look once, only with horrible interlacing on camera movement. I achieved this look, by dropping my 3:2 16x9 Anamorphic DV Movie onto a 4:3 timeline and exporting it with quicktime conversion 720x480 - 4:3 without using preserve letterbox. I had to burn the DVD after doing this with iDVD, because DVD Studio Pro did not support the file. The look was exactly what I was looking for, but the video had horrible interlacing on camera movement.
So in general, there only one way to export 16x9 Anamorphic movies to display on a TV? The letterboxing is not much, and its looks super videoish to me. With more letterboxing, it looks great on the TV.
Please let me know what my options are, or if I should just go with the larger picture, and small letterboxing on top and bottom that is achieved by just dropping the 16:9 Anamorphic movie onto a 3:2 timeline and exporting. What do most indie filmmakers exporting DV movies onto DVD for festivals do?

PS... What is it that Quicktime Conversion did that made it more letterboxed? Was it distorting the image at all? It did not look that way. It looked like the letterboxing on a lot of professional DVD's that shot on film.

Having problems with DVD being reconized...HELP PLEASE

Ok, I have been using these same DVDs for the last year with NO problems now for some reason after I updated my mac it is giving me an error. Its wierd because I insert the disk and it says you have insterted a blan DVD-R then I choose to open in finder then it gives me that error message. Any clues? I use tiyo yoden DVD-R. They have always worked great. What can it be...?

New to this iPOD game, and having problems! Please help!

So I finally got my hands on a Nano yesterday, and ever since then some odd things have been happening. I would appreciate any help to the following questions/problems I've been having, because the applecare stuff does not seem to really be either helping or addressing my issues.
1. When starting iTunes, I was told (once it reconized my nano) that I neeed to install the new software for the nano, i expected this and downloaded it, and followed the directions. As soon as I did that though I started getting "Corrupted Error" messages in iTunes. To get this to stop I just reinstalled iTunes...I was able to transfer things now, but now the system does not seem to reconize that the nano has the new software, and asks if I want to install it, and when I do...(again) I start getting those corrupt errors again.
2. I will move some songs from my iTunes library, to my nano, and it says they transfer over. I then eject my nano from iTunes, wait for the "do not disconnect" to go away, and unplug it, and sometimes, my newly transfered songs are no longer on my nano. Am I doing something wrong?
3. I went to update my iPod with some playlists from my library, I went to the options, and said "only update from these lists" It updated my ipod...and deleted everything else off of it, and to add insult to injury, it only added the title of the play list, and NOT the actual song files
I know this is a lot, but I'm really frustrated, so any help would be appreciated.

If you're having problems making an extension for Photoshop CS6 with Configurator 3..

I was going to ask for help here, but before posting I decided to try one last experiment to see if it would work. Yesterday I tried making a simple one button panel inside Configurator and exporting it to Photoshop CS6. I put it in the plugins\panels directory. Start Photoshop, nothing... I tried looking at how to create an extension manually and signing it in order to install it with Extension Manager, and my brain nearly melted.
So today I tried installing an older version of Photoshop (CS 5.5). The difference was that I selected Photoshop CS5/CS5.5 in the create new panel dialog in Configurator instead of CS6. Export Panel..It worked! Then I tried the same thing for my install of Photoshop CS6, selecting Photoshop CS5/CS5.5 as before in Configurator's dropdown menu. Success!
I hope this helps anyone who was stuck in the same place as me.

Hmm, okay I just had a problem. I used an swf with a hue strip made in actionscript inside an swf loader in configurator. Tried exporting this to PS CS6's panels folder, and to my surprise it complete broke all of the other extensions in that folder. (ie. Photoshop refused to load any other non-defualt extenstions at all just because one was borked.). Very very stupid. So I went back to PS CS5, everything was working perfectly. Then I closed it and went back to PS CS6, and suddenly my test panel was working again. I have no idea why PS CS5 "fixed" PS CS6, it doesn't make sense really. I think I'll be going back to CS5 to do all my work as CS6 is really buggy about extensions, and I really need a color wheel for painting.

I have developed an application in java, consisting of 62+ class files, now the problem i am having is that whenever i make a jar file, it doesn't run.. as it is suppose to!!!!
Can anyone tell me exactly how to do it in an efficient and better way??? is there any good tool out there that i can use???
Also, is there any third part tool that makes ur app WebStart enabled?

this is the story so far.
I use Garageband then iWeb to do some Podcasts. I send them to my own .Mac page and then to good old 'iTunes' and here is the problem.
First, I am new to all of this, a 'beginner' lets remember that part.
So, I have 2 Podcasts on iTunes, very simple ones for the moment all in Education, although they should all be in the 'Higher Education' section but they are not. Anyway I just want to add a new episode to one of them ( RPE 202. episode 2 ) but when I try to 'submit it to iTunes ( using iWeb, as you do ) when i get to the first page with the URL feed inserted already ( by iWeb ) I get that wonderful message stating that the 'Feed has already been submitted' Yes I know that, it's me. So can someone tell me please how to add a new episode to a Podcast already on iTunes please !!!
It should be a lot more simple then this, but it is not ( In my mind anyway )
Why don't Apple ( in iTunes ) just have a 'Tick box' asking you if you are just
'updating or adding another episode' . You tick ( yes ) and then it lets you do what ever you are trying to do. If I am using the Software they suggest then why does it not work properly ? Why does iWeb give the same Feed to one that is used, why does it not add either another 'Letter or number' to let the system know ah I know that Feed, it wants to be added to 'that' Podcast.
Sorry for the rant at the end but I am sure this could be made easier for us all.

If the feed is already submitted, you don't have to do anything else. Add your podcast to iWeb, publish, and wait. iTunes will get the feed.
I too publish a podcast. When I update the website, it is automatically (maybe a little delay) added to iTunes

Having tbl making dvd-encore cs4,win 7,64bit

looked on forum for win 7 encore cs4 Win 7 troubles and found 2, turn off power saver and download some Roxie file. Did both but still freezes, not responding and have to end session, one at 12 min left, and now 2 min left. Also can't eject dvd, have to turn off computer. This is a SD dvd, 90 mins total time, the 1st encore project with new i7 computer, --last night it did burn it but the last 10 mins weren't there. Transcode is automatic. Any ideas--I'll see if I can work on this project in my XP computer, never had any tbl with XP....

Thanks for the reply, I will look into your ideas. I don't have screen saver on and no Nero, iTunes was downloaded with Quicktime and I beleive Win7 uses Roxio, I will check these out.
I put the hard drive docking station back on the XP windows quad core computer, the project was edited on this machine.
Encore burned the dvd complete EXCEPT now no sound, only the menu sound. When I play the timeline there's no sound. This seems to happen when I make a change in PPRO and then go back to Encore. I then export the audio from PPRO and bring it into Encore as an asset, drop it on audio 2 and then all is fine. I did that just now and still hear no audio. I've been using Encore for a year and no troubles. Glad I make the SD dvds 1st before the HD so I don't waste blu ray discs.
My win7 computer is a Dell with Win7 Ultimate, 12 GB ram, i7 920 processor, 1TB C drive and I use external drives to edit on in a docking bay with esata cable.

Having trouble making DVD

I made this great movie in Imovie. It was made of photos and video run together of a trip I took recently. I had trouble figuring out how to make a DVD of the project. Finally I imported it to IDVD. The photos and music came through but the video that was in Imovie did not. Is there and easier way to burn the project to DVD?

The prescribed method for producing DVD's from imovie projects is to export them to the media browser and then open them by clicking on the media button in iDVD.
You may however be experiencing other issues and it may be that the source video you imported into imovie may be incompatible with imovie. What was the compression type of the video files you have used?
