  • Having troubles updating Camera Raw to 8.2 on Photoshop CC - "patch not applicable"

    Hello there,
I have a brand new Photoshop CC 14.0, coming with Camera Raw 8.0.
If I go through help --> updates no new camera raw version gets recognized, even though 8.1 has already been released.
Then I tried with 8.2 RC that comes in a zip file, but when I launch AdobePatchInstaller.exe it runs for a short while and then it says something like (I'm roughly translating from Italian):
    Update not succeeded
    Patch application not possible
This patch is not applicable. Check availability of updates from the Help menu of the product to etc. etc. etc.
Is this a bug? I would think something is wrong with the 8.2 installer, but in that case the help --> updates should have at least found the 8.1 version, yet... nothing.
    Could you please help?

Just a quick answer to stress how absurd is this (and to provide help to anybody who may be struggling with the same problem): I solved it this way: with Adobe Creative Cloud (or by any other means I guess) go install Adobe Bridge CC trial version. Now if you go there (that is in Bridge) to Help --> Updates this will find Camera Raw 8.1 as an update and will install it. This is cross application, therefore once it finishes you will have it working in Photoshop too.
Then again, if you want to install the ACR 8.2 RC (in case the final version isn't out yet) you can run the exectuable in the zip file: it will now install version 8.2 correctly.

  • Newbie having trouble updating Camera Raw

OK, so I just bought myself Photoshop CS5 and a Canon Eos 550D.  Took my first pictures using RAW format and try to open them in Photoshop - it says "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw".
Figure (afer a bit of digging about that I need to update my Camera Raw - I have version 6.0.0.205 and the latest seems to be 6.4 (my camera files are showing as CR2 whatever that means).  I go to Help>Updates and it says "The update server is not responding.  The server might be offline temporarily or the firewall settings may be incorrect.  Please try again later."
It also says that the last check for updates was 5th May which was likely the day I first loaded the software. I have no idea what the internet/firewall settings should be.  So anyway then I go online to download the update directly from the Adobe site.  It downloads ok but when I try to run the .exe file (AdobePatchIns...) it says "Error loading Updater workflow".
So now I 've run out of ideas, can anyone help me?  And I'll apologise now if this all explained somewhere - I couldn't find it.
    Many thanks

    Thanks for your reply, Noel.
I tried running Photoshop as Administrator but still get the same message as above when I go to Help/Upddates.
I'm running WIndows 7.  I have Eset Nod 32 antivirus and my firewall settings will be whatever comes standard with Windows and/or Eset.
I tried temporarily truning off both the Windows firewall and the antivirus (one at a time) but still had the same problem.
I notice that the message says "internet or firewall settings may be incorrect" - is there anywhere where it says what the settings should be.
Thanks again for any help anyone can give me ... ?

  • Problem updating camera raw, if it's possible

    Running Mac OS 10.9.5; have Elements 12 installed v.12.0.; Camera Raw v 8.0.0.137.  I recently purchased a Nikon D750.
When I try to import a raw .nef file via PSE 12 Editor, "open camera raw," and select the file, I get this message, "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information."
I went there and could not figure out what to do nor how to get things fixed.  Is a fix to camera raw in PSE 12 possible for my situation?  Can anyone help with a step by step for this challenged editor?  Thanks.

    Hi,
The D750 requires Camera Raw 8.7 which is not compatible with PSE 12 so it cannot be updated.
You either need to buy PSE 13 or use the DNG converter as suggested above. If you do buy PSE 13, after you have installed it, you will need to go to the Help menu and select Updates to install the latest Camera Raw.

  • Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw Update for Photoshop CS5. I have a pc.

Please Help? Having trouble opening camera raw files. Already downloaded Camera Raw update. I have a pc.

If the camera is fairly new then the version of ACR you have with CS5 won't be able to read those file. You'll need to upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop or use Lightroom 5.
Once a new version of Photoshop comes out Adobe does not support updating ACR from the older version of PS.

  • Updating Camera Raw from within Photoshop CS6

I recently added an iMac to my photo processing system, and I'm not yet really familiar with it, so I don't understnad this problem:
I downloaded Photoshop CS6, including Camera Raw 7, with no problem and it's installed and working fine on the iMac.
But when I tried to work on a file from my new Nikon D600, I got the message that Photoshop couldn't open the file and that I needed to update Camera Raw. It told me to use the Help>Update selection in Photoshop in order to update to the latest version.
Okay, I tried that, but got the message: "Update Failed. Update could not be applied. You are already running the Adoabe Application Manager, please close all instances of Adobe Application Manager before applying updates."
Well, as far as I can tell, it was using Help>Update that launched the Application Manager. There were no other "instances" (whatever they are) of Application Manager in use, as far as I know.  Further, I can't remove Application Manager from my computer by dragging its icon to the trash.
What am I doing wrong? I really want to have the latest version of Camera Raw so that I can work on D600 NEF files directly without having to convert them to DNG.
    Help ?!
    Thanx.

You need to terminate the process:

You will have to do the update manually for the app store version. Instructions are here:

(that's for 6.6 but the steps/file paths are the same for 6.7)

  • Just updated camera raw to 6.6 in photoshop 5 won't open raw files

Just updated camera raw in photoshop 5 to 6.6 on a mac pro running 10.6.8 os wont open a raw file and program freezes and must force quit to close. Lightroom update has problems as well. Don't recommend updating to either

    Photoshop CS5, 12.0.4 x64
2.93 GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon Mac Pro
    8GB 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM
Photoshop is configured to open Raw, JPG & Tiff.
Raw files in CR2 format from my Canon EOS 5D MarkII
Applied the Camera Raw 6.6 update last night. There were no problems noted during the update. Did not realize until later that the files would not open any more - I was working with PSD files created several days before. I forwarded several crash reports to Apple after I force closed Photoshop several times. When I opened one of the three files Photoshop would not exactly freeze but the whole system became slow - the force-close menu took a while to display after I right-clicked the icon in the dock. If I dragged and dropped one of the three into the dock icon, Photoshop would open with usual audible disk sounds but the sounds stopped quickly and the program was frozen.
I recovered using suggestions from the forum, used Time Machine to return Photoshop, Bridge and the Adobe folder in the path /Library/Application Support/Adobe/ to the state before the update. The Camera Raw Plug-in is now at 6.5 and I can open RAW files again.

  • Cannot update Camera Raw from 6.7 to 7.1

When I try to update Camera Raw from 6.7 to 7.1, from the 7.1 setup file I downloaded, I get the error:
    "Update failed
    Updates could not be applied
This patch is not applicable for you. Please check for updates from the help menu in your product to see a list of latest updates available."
If I go to help in Photoshop CS5 and click on updates, it says that all of my programs are up to date, but Camera Raw is still 6.7. It absolutely refuses to update to 7.1
I just traded in my Nikon D3100 for a Nikon D3200 and 6.7 does not support it, but 7.1 does, so I REALLY need it to upgrade because I like to shoot in RAW.
    Please help????

The Adobe policy is to provide free updates for currently shipping products. The current version of Photoshop is CS6, the current Camera Raw is 7.1.
Providing backwards compatibility of older software with newer versions of Camera Raw is a major technical problem. Camera Raw is a plug-in with dependancies on the host version of Photoshop's SDK. Camera Raw 7.x is designed to use the CS6 SDK. Photoshop CS6 has different platform requirements than Photoshop CS5 had. So, trying to force fit Camera Raw 7.x to work in Photoshop CS5 would require a code branch of the Camera Raw code that would substantially complicate future development–meaning it would put a major dent in the development resources that Adobe could apply to future updates–a bad thing for current customers. Personally, as a CS6 user, I would not like that at all.
Adobe provides backwards compatibility for new cameras in old versions of Photoshop for free. Yes, it's an additional step but one that only costs a bit of time on your part. The free DNG Converter is capable of producing DNGs that are compatible back to Camera Raw 2.4 in Photoshop CS...and again, this is free and something that Adobe didn't HAVE to do...
You want new cameras to be supported in older software–fact is these new cameras produce new raw file formats that are proprietary and undocumented–it takes a lot of work o decode new formats. This problem is a direct result of the failure of the camera companies to adopt a raw file format standard that would eliminate the need for new camera format decoding...you are perfectly happy buying a new camera that creates a new, un-compatible raw format and blame only Adobe for failing to upgrade old software? Your expectations are unrealistic and you are trying to place blame on the wrong party, it's the camera company's who are at fault for not adhering to some sort of standard that would free users of the problems they face now. Blame the company that sold you the camera that is not compatible with your software...it ain't Adobe's fault.
