I am having serious performance issues. FF just spins and spins, and rarely gets anywhere anymore.

I have disabled addons, uninstalled/reinstalled, all to no avail. Other browsers work fine for me. I'm at the point where I'm ready to give up on FF and just go to Chrome fulltime, if I can't get an answer to this issue.
I do use quite a few tabs, but I haven't had an issue with that in the past. This issue started a couple months ago, so I went through the various releases, and am now at 7.01 in W7 64, still the same issues as when it started in FF4.
I do NOT have this problem in XP using the same browser version on another machine.

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
How about with a new, empty profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile

  • My macbook pro is suddenly having major performance issues

    Hi,
I´ve been having some performance issues with my Macbook Pro (late 2006) and was hoping that someone here might be able to help me figure out what it is.
It all started about a month ago with the disc utility giving me an error.
The error said something about the amount of threads being wrong.
I popped in the install dvd and fixed the problem. I also did a complete reinstall and upgraded from leopard to snow leopard.
There was nothing wrong with the S.M.A.R.T.-status of the drive.
At the same time the hardrive error came around my cpu started to choke. The cpu-problem didn´t go away after I repaired the disc and formatted the drive and installed 10.6.
Now it feels like the cpu is running way below it´s capacity. Even the simplest of tasks make my computer choke.
My audio applications are working at about half the speed of what they used to handle. Converting a wave file to mp3 takes about twice as long, and converting a video is even worse.
I haven´t had any problems since I bought it in 2006. It is still running smooth - except for the lack of speed. It´s not really acting weird or being unstable, just slow. Way slower than it is supposed to be (and was before).
    And it happened overnight.
I also had a kernel panic last week. But after restarting the system it went away and I haven´t seen it since.
    My specs are: C2D 2.16, 3GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm hdd, OS 10.6.4...
Would really appreciate help of any/every kind!
I fear that this might be the end of my work horse

Well, kind of a good news bad news situation for you.
Bad news, is that your hard drive is dying. Make sure you back things up while you still can. Disk Utility's SMART status is generally just this side of useless I'm afraid. I've seen plenty of drives that are completely toast, that will show up as "Verified".
Good news, is that as repairs go, this is close to as cheap as they get. It's up to you if you want to attempt doing it yourself, but be sure to look for some kind of take apart guide first. Look it over, and if you're even a little unsure, take it somewhere. Shortly after this model they started making it a lot easier to do HDD upgrades, not that it does you a lot of good.
Anyway, even for a system as old as yours, this is a very cost effective repair if everything else is still working fine, and you're satisfied with the system. It's also a good opportunity to upgrade, give yourself a little extra space. No need to go overboard, but maybe a 250GB drive or so. A touch over 2X the space you had before, which can be had on the cheap. Just about any 2.5" SATA drive should work in that system.

  • Serious Performance issue in ADF?

    Hi Everyone,
    My Jdev version is 11.1.2.3.0.
I have developed one ADF application and deployed into web logic server.
I am accessing this page through url in one portal of client.
After clicking on the page link in portal it opens the page and the page has search page(test field, submitbutton and result table).
On clicking on submit button sometimes the result in the table comes in few seconds and sometimes it takes few minutes.
its a very serious performance issue.
What should i do to increase performance for my ADF page?
why it takes much time sometimes?
    Please give suggestions.
    Thanks.

    Hi Kumar,
Try to ensure proper indexes are placed based on search criteria in base table which will definitely increase the performance. Be sure to check the explain plan to see the performance of query instead of just running it in toad. If you feel everything is good from back end, you can tune your view object, go to view object editor->tuning and set the page range size=25 or some smaller value and see if that increases the performance.
Refer below link for more guidelines:

I do get the same problem. It believe it started after I switched from HDD to SSD some month's ago. My machine is very fast now so I do not have performance problems (only a very slow power on boot).
The description above is exactly the same as I have.
Does somebody has the same problems?

    Hello,
I just want to reiterate that we are very committed to working on
this issue, and that our goal is to find out the root of the problem. But
first I'd like to narrow down the avenues by process of elimination.
Open Cursor is something that is commonly used in today's RDBMS. I
know that you must test your query in ISQL using some kind of execute
immediate, but Sybase should be able to handle an open cursor. I was
wondering if your Sybase expert commented on the fact that the server is
not responding to commonly used command like 'open cursor'. According to
our developer, we are merely following the API from Sybase, and open cursor
is not something that particularly slows down a query for several minutes
(except maybe the very first time). The logs show that Forte is waiting for
a status from the DB server. Actually, using prepared statements and open
cursor ends up being more efficient in the long run.
    Some questions:
    1) Have you tried to do a prepared statement with open cursor in your ISQL
session? If so, did it have the same slowness?
    2) How big is the table you are querying? How many rows are there? How many
    are returned?
    3) When there is a hang in Forte, is there disk-spinning or CPU usage in
the database server side? On the Forte side? Absolutely no activity at all?
We actually have a Sybase set-up here, and if you wish, we could test out
your database and Forte PEX here. Since your queries seems to be running
off of only one table, this might be the best option, as we could look at
everything here, in house. To do this:
    a) BCP out the data into a flat file. (character format to make it portable)
    b) we need a script to create the table and indexes.
    c) the Forte PEX file of the app to test this out.
    d) the SQL staement that you issue in ISQL for comparison.
If the situation warrants, we can give a concrete example of
possible errors/bugs to a developer. Dial-in is still an option, but to be
able to look at the TOOL code, database setup, etc. without the limitations
of dial-up may be faster and more efficient. Please let me know if you can
provide this, as well as the answers to the above questions, or if you have
    any questions.

    We did that trick already.
When it is hanging, I can see what is doing.
It is doing OPEN CURSOR. But not clear the exact statement of the cursor
    it is trying to open.
When we run the query directly to Sybase, not using Forte, it is clearly
    not opening any cursor.
And running it directly to Sybase many times, the response is always
    consistently fast.
It is just when the query runs from Forte to Sybase, it opens a cursor.
But again, in the Forte code, Alex is not using any cursor.
In trying to capture the query,we even tried to audit any statementcoming
to Sybase. Same thing, just open cursor. No cursor declaration anywhere.==============================================

    Hello gurus,
I am having some performance issues. The program involves accessing data from S031 and S032.  I have pasted the SELECT statements below.  I have read through the forums for past postings regarding performance, but I wanted to know if there is anything that stands out as being the culprit of very poor performance, and how it can be corrected.  I am fairly new to SAP, so I apologize if I've missed an obvious error.  From debugging the program, it seems the 2nd select statement is taking a very long time to process.

  • Serious performance issue with LV 7.1 Development Environment

I'm posting this issue to the forums prior to submitting a bug report to ensure that the problems I'm having are reproducible. To reproduce this bug, you're going to have to be an advanced user with a large project (hundreds to thousands of VIs) as the performance problem is related to the number of VIs loaded.
The issue is the increasingly poor performance of the LabVIEW 7.1 Development Environment as the number of VIs in memory increases. The actions affected include switching between front panel and diagram, saving a VI, copy and paste, clicking a menu, and the mysterious time spent (compiling? editing the runtime menu? changing the toolbar state?) between pressing the run button and when the code actually starts executing. Scrolling and, interestingly, copying via a control-drag are not affected. Running time of entirely on-diagram code does not seem to be affected.
These problems are quite severe and significantly decrease my productivity as a programmer. Since they are development environment UI issues, it's been difficult for me to find a good example VI; the best I can do is the attached "LV Speed Test.vi". It doesn't test the issues that affect me most, but it seems to suffer from the same problem.
This simple VI just shows and hides the menu bar 100 times in a tight for loop. When it is the only VI loaded, it executes in about 350 msec on my machine. (2.4 GHz P-IV/640 MB RAM/Win2k). However, when I load a single project-encompassing VI (let's call it the "giant") that references a total of about 900 user and VI-lib subVIs, the test routine takes almost a minute and half to run...about 240 times slower! I've tried this on my laptop with similar results.
The problem appears to be related to the *number* of VIs loaded and not the memory utilization. For example, if I close the "giant", and create a new VI ("memhog") that does nothing but initialize a length 20,000,000 array of doubles and stores it in an uninitialized shift register, LabView's overall memory usage (as shown in the task manager) jumps enormously, but LV Speed Test executes in about 450 msec...only slightly slower than with a fresh copy of Labview.
The problem seems to be related to excessive context switching. The Windows task manager shows over a thirteen hundred page faults occur when "LV Speed Test" is run with the "giant" in the background, versus zero or none when run by itself or when "memhog" has used up 160+MB of space.
The problem only seems to affect the frontmost window. (Unfortunately, that's where we LV programmers spend all of our time!) If you start "LV Speed Test" and then put "giant" in the foreground "LV Speed Test" runs much faster. In fact, if you use the VI server to put the "giant" VI in the foreground programmatically at the start of "LV Speed Test", execution time drops back to 450 msec, and there are no page faults!
These results show the issue is not related to video drivers or the Windows virtual memory system. My suspicion is that there is a faulty routine in LV 7.1 that is traversing the entire VI hierarchy every time certain events are thrown in the foreground window. It could be due to a problem with the Windows event tracking system, but this seems less likely.
I have been programming LV for about 7 years and switched from LV 6.1 to 7.1 about four months ago. I know NI engineers have put thousands of hours developing and testing LV 7.1, but honestly I find myself wishing I had never upgraded from using LV 6.1. (To whomever thought "hide trailing zeros" should be the default for floating point controls...what were you thinking?!)
I know each new version of LabView causes old-timers like me to grouse that things were better back in the days when we etched our block diagrams on stone tablets, etc., and honestly I'm not going to go back. I am committed to LabView 7.1. I just wish it were not so slow on my big projects!

    Hi,
I can confirm this behavior. Setting the execution system to "user
interface" helps a bit, but there is still a big difference.
I get a feeling it has something to do with window messages, perhaps
WM_PAINT or something, that is handled differently if a VI is not
frontmost... But what do I know...
Don't know if it should be called a bug, but it sure is something that could
    be optimized.
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

  • Event ID 5013 - Old Exchange 2003 reference from Active Directory - Performance Issues or Just a Message?

    Hello,
I am working on an existing 2010 Exchange implementation.  The site has one Exchange 2010 server with no other Exchange servers running and/or available.  I looked through the application logs and I see multiple Event ID 5013 errors that state,
"The routing group for Exchange server <ServerName>.<DomainName>.LOCAL was not determined in routing tables with timestamp 6/24/2014 8:01:48 PM. Recipients will not be routed to this server."
I would like to know if by having this old 2003 Exchange server in AD, if it could be causing performance issues or if it is just a warning message only.  I have located the old server name using ADSIedit under, "CN=Configuration,DC=<DomainName>DC=Local\CN=Services\CN=Microsoft
Exchange\CN=First Organization\CN=Administrative Groups\CN=First Administrative Group\CN=Servers".  The old 2003 Exchange server is then listed in the right window pane so it could be deleted but I would need to know if this would effect the Exchange
environment other than removing the error from the event logs.
    Thank you for your help,
    Michael

    Hi,
When you install Exchange 2010 in an existing Exchange 2003 environment, a routing group connector is created automatically. If you remove Exchange 2003 from you environment, you should also delete this routing group connector.
Besides, here is a related article about Event ID 5013 which may help you for your reference.

  • After Effects CS5.5 - Very Serious Performance Issues w/RAM Preview

My system: Windows 7 Professional, two Intel Xeon X5650's, 12GB RAM, and a NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800.
Problem: RAM Preview in CS5.5 gives me less than 2 fps (yes---two frames per second). This is even with the most simple of compositions. I created a 1080p 23.976 project with two simple solid layers and keyframed position and scale values for one of them with no other effects on either solid. RAM Preview gives me 1.8 fps.
I still have AE CS5 installed and it gives me solid, predictable results with RAM Preview. When I create a similar test project inside CS5, it creates the RAM preview almost instantly and displays in proper realtime (23.976 fps).
My settings for both CS5 and CS5.5 are similar  (and I have tried many variations in my attempt to fix this problem).
    PREVIEWS
Fast Previews: Adaptive Resolution Limit 1/4
Enabled OpenGL and both sub-options for OpenGL enabled.
    MEMORY & MULTIPROCESSING
RAM reserved for other apps: 4GB
I have tried various settings for Multiprocessing, all of which results in the same less-than-2 fps RAM Previews. Currently I have MP'ing enabled with 1.5GB allocation per background CPU and the actual CPU's used is 4. Again, no matter what I set it to, I get the same performance issue.
On my screen magnification ratio setting, I am using 25% and my Resolution/Down Sample is set to quarter. On my preview tab, I have tried setting my resolution from the default of "Auto" to "Quarter" with no difference.
In summary: On the same machine, AE CS5.5 RAM Preview offers terrible performance; CS5 RAM Preview offers great performance.

Under AJA Preview there are check boxes, one for "Video" and the other for "Preview." I've checked and unchecked them both and I'm still getting poor RAM previews. No matter what I have toggled, I seem to get between 1 and 2 fps for my RAM Previews.
I am not currently using the AJA card for anything. I will consider uninstalling it if this might possibly solve my problem. It's just a hassle to install and uninstall cards on a per need basis.
If there are any other thoughts, I'd love to hear them. At this point, I'd do just about anything to have realtime previews back.
The machine I'm using, by the way, is an HP z800 with Windows 7 Professional, two Intel Xeon X5650's, 12GB RAM, and a NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800. It has the following installed: CS5.5 Production Premium, AVID Media Composer 5.5.2, and AVID DS 10.5.1 (among other programs).

  • I have a Sony NEX-VG10, edit with Prem Pro and am having serious capturing issues.

I recently purchased the Sony NEX-VG10 and am really excited about it.  I have run into some serious problems capturing the footage, though.  I have a 2010 iMac, am running OSX 10.8.2  Mountain Lion and use Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 to edit.  I've discovered that the files on the camera are .MTS, a file format with which I am unfamiliar (not surprising, I'm not exactly a newb, but the past few months is the first time I've started editing seriously - I am more a writer/director/producer and could do basic stuff with FC7 and Prem Pro - now I own my own production company and am getting down to the nitty gritty).
    But I have found that
    1. I can't capture using bridge, it doesn't recognize the file format.
    2. When I plug the camera into the computer and go straight to the files, I don't even get individual files.  All the information is contained in what looks like a Quicktime movie, but isn't recognized by Quicktime or any other program as anything.
    3.  When I go into the camera files using the import function in Premiere Pro, I find the individual .MTS files - which say they are Unix Executable files (no idea what that means), I can import them into PP, but the quality is atrocious.  Grainy and pixely.  Even when viewing them in full res playback mode.
    4. I bought Bigasoft Total Video converter (wicked cool program).  I import the files using PP, then go find them in this program, and convert them into .mov files - the quality is still atrocious (not surprised, as the .mts files look cruddy, what could I expect when I converted them - but was worth a try).
I need to capture these files in full quality (oh - the file information says they are in 1920 x 1080 (1.0), so it's not like I filmed in a low res.
The software that came with the camera is for PCs, I've searched for answers to these problems, and although I've found similar, I can't find anything that actually helps me.  Can anyone out there tell me exactly what to do?!?  I would be most appreciative.  My new company's success depends on it!

If you'll type mts into the search field for these communities, you will see a plethora of threads on the subject - I was going to link to one, but there are so many, it'd be best for you to read through several. In any case, of note is the fact that you might be able to import into iMovie directly as long as you do not shoot in 50/60 fps - in order to be able to read it, it has to be either 30fps for NTSC or 24 for PAL.
Not sure if the frames per second problem has anything to do with your lousy quality problem, but it might. The other concern is that Sony has not and does not really play nice with anything Apple - that was one of the reasons I chose a Canon.

  • MacBook Pro performance issues w/2nd monitor and FCP7

I have this MacBook Pro bought brand-new in January 2010:
      Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 6 MB
      Memory: 8 GB
      Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
and until today had never attached a second monitor to it. Today I hooked up my Samsung 24" to do some dual screen editing in Final Cut 7.0.3. I was unable to play back my video at full speed in the second monitor, and after a few seconds of skippy playback I'd get that error message about unable to play back video at full speed and to check my RT settings. I was using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. My computer has no issues playing the video in the laptop's monitor at any resolution and any quality settings (I've never changed the RT settings or anything else in the menu ever but I tried every combination this time). I then tried using my TV as a 2nd monitor with an HDMI adapter. Same performance issues. I then tried my friend's newer 13" MBP 8,1 and it performed flawlessly with the same project & footage. I feel like my $3,000 computer should outperform a $1,200 one even if mine is a year and a half older. Any advice?
    Chris

Wow, you posted this perfectly to coincide with an identical problem, albeit using Logic Pro 9.1.5 rather than FCP.
Last week, I purchased a 23" external monitor to use alongside my "flagship" 2011 15" hi-res, 2.3 i7 Macbook Pro with 8Gb of RAM.
It is connected via a mini-DVI to D-sub analog (not that that should matter?) and all appeared fine.
The first issue I had was with my MBP's fan now running CONSTANTLY, when I have the second monitor attached. Even when the machine is completely idle.
When using the machine to record audio, this is a fairly hefty problem and not something I had anticipated - indeed why would I anticipate such a thing?
What is far, far worse though is that over the last few days I have had repeated problems with performance drop-outs and errors in Logic and I have trying to fathom out why. Realising that the only major system change made, was the above monitor connection, I ran some tests.
I restarted my MBP, no other apps were running and with my new 23" monitor attached acting as main display with MBP built in display on as secondary
I loaded up a fairly demanding Logic project which was hitting 40% to 60% CPU usage when using the built in MBP display last week
I ran activity monitor and had CPU usage history open
The above project now repeatedly overloads and playback halts in a given 8 bar section - with CPU at 80% most of the time
I disconnected the external display, no shut down, I just let the machine switch to the built in 15".
Started the same project, the same 8 bar section and hey presto - CPU usage back down to 40% to 60%
The above was reflected in the CPU usage history with the graph showing CPU use down by about a half, when running this Logic project WITHOUT the external display.
There is a very useful benchmark Logic project that has been used as a test by many users to gauge Logic performance on given Apple hardware.
The project has about 100 tracks pre-configured with CPU intensive plugins, designed to tax the CPU.
The idea is that you load up the project with tracks muted, press play and then unmute the tracks steadily until Logic us unable to play contiunously because of a system performance error.
On my MBP, with the external monitor NOT attached, I can play back around 50 of the audio tracks in this benchmark project.
With the monitor attached, I can get about 22 tracks playing.... which is actually a far worse a performance drop (-50% I think!?) than with the first example!
I did also try with just the external monitor attached and not the MBP display and performance was about 10% better than with dual monitors - so still extremely poor, to say the least.
This machine is the flagship MBP and has a dedicated AMD Radeon HD6750 GPU which should take care of most if not ALL graphics processing - I mean it's capable of running some pretty demanding games!
Putting aside the issue of constant fan noise, there is no reason AT ALL, why using an external monitor should tax the i7 CPU this way - it's not as though Logic is graphically demanding... far from it.
I am on 10.6.8, Logic 9.1.5, all apps up to date via "Software Update".
I will of course, be contacting Apple...

  • Performance issue with high CPU and IO

    Hi guys,
I am encountering huge user response time on a production system and I don’t know how to solve it.
Doing some extra tests and using the instrumentation that we have in the code we concluded that the DB is the bottleneck.
We generated some AWR reports and noticed the CPU was in top wait events. Also noticed that in a random manner some simple sql take a long time to execute. We activated the sql trace on the system and noticed that for very simple SQLs (unique index access on one table) we have huge exec times. 9s
In the trace file the huge time we had it in fetch area: 9.1s cpu and elapsed 9.2.
And no or very small waits for this specific SQL.
it seems like the bottle neck is on the CPU but at that point there were very few processes running on the DB. Why can we have such a big cpu wait on a simple select? This is a machine with 128 cores. We have quicker responses on machines smaller/busier than this.
We noticed that we had a huge db_cache_size (12G) and after we scale it down we noticed some improvements but not enough. How can I prove that there is a link between high CPU and big cache_size? (there was not wait involved in SQL execution). what can we do in the case we need big DB cache size?
The second issue is that I tried to execute an sql on a big table (FTS on a big table. no join). Again on that smaller machine it runs in 30 seconds and on this machine it runs in 1038 seconds.
Also generated a trace for this SQL on the problematic machine:
call     count       cpu    elapsed       disk      query    current        rows
    Parse        1      0.00       0.00          0          0          0           0
    Execute      1      0.00       0.00          0          0          0           0
    Fetch        1    402.08    1038.31    1842916    6174343          0           1
    total        3    402.08    1038.32    1842916    6174343          0           1
      db file sequential read                     12419        0.21         40.02
      i/o slave wait                             135475        0.51        613.03
      db file scattered read                     135475        0.52        675.15
      log file switch completion                      5        0.06          0.18
latch: In memory undo latch                     6        0.00          0.00
latch: object queue header operation            1        0.00          0.00
********************************************************************************The high CPU is present here also but here I have huge wait on db file scattered read.
Looking at the session with the select the AWG_wait for db scattered read was 0.5. on the other machine it is like 0.07.
I though this is an IO issue. I did some IO tests at SO level and it seems like the read and writes operation are very fast…much faster than the machine that has the awg_wait smaller. Why the difference in waits?
One difference between these two DBs is that the problem one has the db block size = 16k and the other one has 8k.
I received some reports done at OS level on CPU and IO usage on the problematic machine (in normal operations). It seems like the CPU is very used and the IO stays very low.
On the other machine, the smaller and the faster one, it is other way around.
What is the problem here? How can I test further? Can I link the high CPU to low/slow IO?
we have 10G on sun os with ASM.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, there are many things you can and should do to isolate this. But first check MOS Poor Performance With Oracle9i and 10g Releases When Using Dynamic Intimate Shared Memory (DISM) [ID 1018855.1] isn't messing you up to start.
Also, be sure and post exact patch levels for both Oracle and OS.
Be sure and check all your I/O settings and see what MOS has to say about those.
Are you using ASSM? See Long running update
Since it got a little better with shrinking the SGA size, that might indicate (wild speculation here, something like) one of the problems is simply too much thrashing within the SGA, as oracle decides "small" objects being full scanned in memory is faster than range scans (or whatever) from disk, overloading the cpu, not allowing the cpu to ask for other full scans from I/O. Possibly made worse by row level locking, or some other app issue that just does too much cpu.
You probably have more than one thing wrong. High fetch count might mean you need to adjust the array size on the clients.
Now that that is all out of the way, if you still haven't found the problem, go through http://oracle-randolf.blogspot.com/2009/02/basic-sql-statement-performance.html
Edit: Oh, see Solaris 10 memory management conflicts with Automatic PGA Memory Management [ID 460424.1] too.

  • I had to uninstall Firefox for diagnostic reasons on my Dell desktop, and am having hundreds of issues with shortcuts now. I want to get it perfectly operational with IE, then switch back to Firefox

I was having minor registry issues after switching to Firefox, and Dell suggested going back to IE to see if that cured the problem. Upon uninstalling Mozilla, and reinstalling IE, none of the desktop shortcuts worked in fact, a partial window opened, and locked up the screen. Dell suggested contacting you to find out if maybe the uninstall did not work completely.
    Any suggestions?

It most definitely is the browser that is causing most of the problems. I have used Firefox so long, I can't even remember. Maybe since its beginning. But today is a sad day. I gave up on it. I can't accomplish anything and end up spending hours troubleshooting. I see I am not alone. I am so sick of it "not responding." It's simply not worth it to spend so much time trying to make the thing work, so I can actually do something. Installed, removed, reinstalled numerous times, and I can't fix your software on my Win 7 Pro machine. No problems with IE or Chrome. So. as much as I hate Google Update, Chrome has won the test. Sad, sad day for me to lose Firefox, but it just does not work on the Win 7 machine. I don't have the same issues with the XP machine and have exactly all the same add-ons. Keep it up developers and you will have no Win 7 users at all.
