I am having trouble copying my library

I have use Carbon Copy Cloner and an External Hard drive to bring all my old Mac 10.3 info over to my my new Imac running leopard but my Itunes and Iphotos libraries didn't copy over....
I have 1600 tracks in I tunes and over 5000 Photos in I photo...
Can any one assist me in how to get these over to my new machine please ???

Locate the "iTunes" folder and "iPhoto Library" package in your external hard drive. And just simply drag and drop the "iTunes" folder and "iPhoto Library" package from your external hard drive to the Music folder and Photo folder respectively.

  • Having Trouble Copy and Pasteing Local Variable in LabVIEW 2010

I am Having Trouble Copy and Pasteing Local Variable in LabVIEW 2010 in s subVI.
I have a VI that has a Local Variable called "Node Addr". I can select it OK, and it appears to Copy OK, But when I go to paste it, nothing appears. It doesn't matter if I use Cntrl-C Cntrl-V or the Copy and Paste from the Edit menu, I get the same results. I tried many times and got the same results. I made sure that I had click a paste location. I can insert the Local Variable if I use the Data Communication panel.
On one of the Paste, I got an error in the error list that said that a Local Variable was not connected to anything. When I clicked on the error, it took me to an insible item in the lower right corner of the block diagram that had nothing but a select box around it. I couldn't select the invisible item, but I could delete it.
Why does the copy and paste of this local variable not work?
Why does the paste cause the insertion of an invisible item?

My VI is fairly complicated. In several places in the VI, I am either reading or writing to this variable which is an numeric Indicator on the Front Panel. Using local variables seems to be the best way to handle this situation rather that using wiring all over the VI. Since the VI is mainly a State Machine and there are only 2 Writes to the local variable, I am not afraid of race conditions in this case.  NO!! While you may think that using Locals is your solution to wiring, it is not!  The fact that you are writing and reading, most likely from several places, will most definitely contribute to a race condition.  Depending on your implemetation, you should ALWAYS use wires.  The wires are the variable.  If you are using a loop (While, For), then using shift registers are appropriate means for routing values so that they are used by other sections of the code, later.  One thing you must respect with LabVIEW is the dataflow.  That's where Locals often fail.
I am not copying the Local Variable from one VI to another.
I am not copying the Local Variable from one VI to another.
The Data Communication panel is one of the panels that shows up in the Functions pop up list when editing the Block Diagram. It is the panel that includes the Local Variable function.
I don't know if the invisible item that was inserted in my block diagram was hidden or not. All I know is that the Errors List said that it was a Local Variable and that it was not connected to anything. I couldn't select it to get more information. All I could do was delete it.
You did not address my questions about why the Copy and Paste does not work properly for my Local Variable.  Maybe it's a sign from the Software Gods not to use them LOL!..
So if I understand correctly, you are trying to copy & paste the Local Variable from within the same VI.  How large is your block diagram?  Did you try right-click on the variable and select "Find > Local Variables"?  If it's a block diagram larger than 1 single screen (which it shouldn't), then it is possible that the Local is hiding beyond the screen.  You should find it as I described earlier.

  • I am having trouble copying files from disk to disk, help.

I have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 running Tiger 10.4.3. I am having a problem copying files since I installed Tiger. I am trying to copy from drive "LaCie d2 195 GB", this is a Firewire 800 external drive, to drive "250GB HD", this is an internal drive. The folder that I am having trouble with this morning has 16 PhotoShop files inside of it, it is 768.5 MB. I get this message:
The finder canot comlete the opperation because some data in "Black Valve 3.psd" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)
I tried to open the file in PhotoShop and it would not open, I had to force quit PhotoShop twice to make PhotoShop to close. I opened a copy of the same file with PhotoShop, that was in another folder on drive "250GB HD" and replaced the file on drive "LaCie d2 195 GB". I opened the newly saved file from drive "LaCie d2 195 GB" with PhotoShop with no problem.
To test the time needed I coppied the same folder from "250GB HD" to my startup drive in 48 seconds. Next I copied the folder a second time from "LaCie d2 195 GB" to the "250GB HD", it took 10 minutes and 54 seconds.
My question is do you think the drive is bad or might I reformat "LaCie d2 195 GB" and make it work better?

Error code -36 is an i/o error. That usually means that the computer is having a problem reading or writing the file you're working with, which in turn usually means that the drive has a problem. A sudden slowdown of the magnitude you meantion usually means a severely damaged directory or physical damage to the disk. I'd run a disk fixer such as Disk Utility or Disk Warrior on the slow drive. If it reports problems which can't be fixed, which I suspect it will, I'd back everything up. I just had a LaCie 250GB drive die on me with similar problems (i/o errors, very slow access) and returned it under the warranty.

  • Having trouble consolidating iTunes library (to then copy to new computer)

The music on my iPod was compiled over time from various files on the computer. I am trying to consolidate all the music into a single iTunes library so I can move the entire library to my new computer. When I tried to do that, it said "copying files" and then I got an error message: "Copying music failed. The file name was invalid or too long." What can I do to consolidate my music? thanks

  • Having trouble importing iPhoto library

OK, I'll word this the best I can.
I have a MacBook air with 250g of memory. It recently warned me my memory was low. After checking, I saw there was 160+g of 'other'. I bought an external hd and backed everything up, then restored it to factor. I then imported the iPhoto library (10k gb Photo/videos) and I saw the pictures downloading as normal. At the end, iPhoto was stuck on 'finishing import'. I checked the storage and it showed 70+gb of memory being used for pics and videos, but they werent visible in iPhoto. What did I do wrong?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What do you have set in the System/CDs and DVDs preferences to do when a disk is inserted? If the option is not set to the Finder do so and see if that will make any difference.
Otherwise boot into Safe Mode and see if you can copy the files from the CD to a folder on the Desktop. Boot back into your normal account and see if you can import. Or import while still in the Safe Mode.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Having trouble restoring iTunes library and media

I have a large audio library.  I was storing the library itself in my home folder (as per default) but the media fies were on an external drive.  As the drive was getting older, and I had recently had another drive fail, I started duplicating the drive holding the media to a newer one. All good so far.
Yesterday however, that older drive failed and it seems that I cannot resuscitate it.  So I tried to redirect my library to the duplicate drive.
To do this I simply went into iTunes preferences and redirected the media files directory to the one on the newer drive.
The something a bit confusing happened.  iTunes asked me if I would like to organize this new media folder.  I figure it already was organized, but iTunes might only believe it was if I asked it to go ahead and organize it.  I did.  iTunes then buzzed through a lot of files over several minutes before completing this process.  I have no idea if it actually moved anything or not.
I tried to play a music file.  iTunes told me it didn't know where the file was - would I like to locate it?  I said yes, and it was easy to locate because it was in fact organized by artist, then by album and the file name was the same as the song.
iTunes then asked me if it should use the location of this file to locate other files it could not find.  I said yes.  It then busied it selves for a long time again before coming back with the very discouraging message that it was about to locate 1973 of the 22350 lost files using this information.
I then selected the whole list of music files moved them a couple millimeters and dropped them again. This will make all those little exclamation points that indicate that a file has been misplaced excplicit.  I played the next song.  I repeated the above, said yes it shoud try to find other lost files with this information.
iTunes has been unresponsive since I did that - about 15 minutes before I started typing this post.
Have I done irreperable harm to my music library with any of the above steps?
Anybody else faced similar problems?  I thought backing up was enough, but apparently not.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Will

Yes, that might have been a very good idea.  Unfortunately, I have to deal with my current situation.
Seeing a possible simplificaion in your observations though, I used Time Machine to roll back the library to before I redirected the media file directory and then renamed the copy of the old drive with the same name as the old one.
Then I opened iTunes again, but this actually made things worse.  It hung after relocating the first song (while trying to locate the other missing files based on me locating that file for it).
Does anyone have any idea of what I can do NOW to get my library and iTunes back in working order?

  • Having trouble copying files to time capsule.

Hello all. Apologies if this isn't in the correct forum. I didn't see one for the time capsule. And thanks in advance for any help.
I recently purchased a new macbook pro after my old macbook pro had a lot of issues. (It had a good run, but was probably 3-4 years old.)
I was trying to copy some files from the old computer to the new computer using my time capsule as an external hard drive. I don't have a firewire cord, and the migration assistant program seemed to take far too long. So I'd hoped to just copy the files onto the time capsule, then copy them onto my new computer.
However, I've encountered several problems. A message will pop up, error -36, and state that some files cannot be copied. Rather than not copy those and copy the rest of the files, the whole process stops. I cannot go through and pick out the individual files, because I can't tell what's causing the problem until the error actually occurs.
Any advice on how to get around this? Or am I missing an easier way to transfer data (such as an itunes library)?
    Thanks.

For future reference, it's hiding in the +Digital Life > Airport and Time Capsule+ section.

Were you connected to the old Mac via Ethernet? That's slow, but doable.

    Yes, that's why Apple invented +Setup Assistant+ and +Migration Assistant.+

Your best bet will be to get a firewire cable and start over. Anything else will be tedious, likely have permissions problems, and be easy to miss things.
Since you've already got who knows what copied, your best option is probably to set up a temporary Admin account, log on with it and delete the one(s) you created. Be sure to delete the home folder(s), too, when prompted.
Then connect the Macs via FireWire and run +Migration Assistant.+ See: [Using Migration Assistant|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Migrate.html]

  • I'm having trouble accessing a Library. I keep getting the beach ball every time I try to open it.

Hi all. Very, VERY new to FCP. I've used many of your suggestions on here to help me through a lot, so thank you!
This is just one issue that I can't seem to figure out.
I was working on a project yesterday without any problems.
Today when I went to work on it, Final Cut would start up, but it would display the beach ball forever once the start up routine was finished. The project would never load.
A note, I have all current App updates installed.
(I figured maybe this particular project didn't get updated for some reason, so I tried manually updating my projects and events, but when I went to select them in my 2nd drive, they were grey and I couldn't select them.)
Another note, other projects work perfectly fine when I go to open them. It's just when I go to open this particular one, Final Cut will not work. Endless beach ball.
I tried a suggestion that one user had, and that was to open two separate windows in Finder, and move the uncooperative library package contents into a new library. That didn't work either, and now I am unable to move the library package contents back to their original library. There is a yellow "!" triangle next to the library in Final Cut, so I'm wondering if this means that the file is corrupt.
Hopefully I've given enough information on here to shed some light on my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it was working on 10/1, why not open up the most recent backup library with a timestamp of that day. Unless you specified otherwise, your backup folder is in Movies in your home folder. You can double-click one to open it in FCP.
The update command actually wants a mounted drive selected.
I suggest not going into the library bundles and moving or modifying folders/files except as a last resort. It sounds like both libraries are corrupted.

  • I am having trouble moving itunes library to external hard drive

It is a WD My book essential external hard drive (1 tb) that I just bought. I already have a ton of files I put on from my PC and I want to get my itunes library from my mac. When I try and drag the itunes folder into the hard drive folder it says  somthing like "Can not move 'itunes' because 'music' can not be modified'" help please. Not sure about the oporating system I added below.

i'm guessing but could the WD be NTFS formatted ?
if so, your Mac can only read from, but not write to it. you may have to install the NTFS 3G driver for it to work.
to install the driver, you need to be on OS X 10.4.11 !

  • I am having trouble copying and pasting.

Once I have sent a copied item it reappears when I am wanting to select a new copied item. I am mailing on hotmail. Also, it does not always paste/ appear at the other end.

Unless you want the whole screen, why not use the Snipping tool? It's great!
Anyway, regarding the clipboard problem try Edit > Purge> Clipboard before you capture what you want.

  • 5.0.2 I'm having trouble copying and pasting blocks of 10+ clips so that...

I have 10+ overlapping clips which, when I try to copy and paste to reuse later in the movie don't paste in the same order or even in the same general spot in the movie. Basically, I have to first go searching for the pasted pieces and then try to put them together all over again. It seems like there must be an easier way.
This is for a music video and i'm working ONLY with audio (all video has been deleted), which, as i said is very much overlapping.

Your only choice at this point is to use a machine running 10.3.9 at the latest.
Even the you will need to resort the audio.
