if you have a dl problem, you didn't follow all 7 steps. typically, failure to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 is the problem.

I had my HD replaced under the recall program. I am running 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.7 on a 2.8GHz iMac.
I haven't noticed any significantly different behavior of Safari since having my HD replaced and using Time Machine to restore my data. The only thing I've run across in about 2 weeks is that Safari's Preferences panel takes a bit longer to load than I remember.
One thing you can try is launching Safari from your computer's main Applications folder. If it still crashes, you can also try downloadng a fresh copy here: http://www.apple.com/support/safari/
Have you ever checked out Firefox? I personally like it better than Safari because it offers more security options, such as greater control over cookies, and supports many useful privacy and security plugins.

If I try to connect via firewire I get nothing. If I connect via usb, computer says its not readable and gives me an option to initialize, but disk utilities wont carry out any actions. to repair or erase.

They only installed the Snow Leopard OS on it, and there were many software programs that came with the iMac originally.. now missing. Does anyone know whether Apple will resupply these? I do have an Apple installation disc but have upgraded from the original Leopard to Snow Leopard... so the OS is not quite the same. Ideas? Thanks!

No bootable bakup/clone or Time Machine backup? No initial install discs? If no to both of those, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and request replacement discs for that machine. They're available for a nominal S&H charge.

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

If you purchased Pages in the Mac App Store, open the App Store, log in with your Apple ID, go to Purchases and download that application. If you don't see it, check that it is hidden, and if so, unhide the application > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
If you purchased Pages on a DVD, insert it and install iWork. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest version

This completely *****. iTunes lists none of my music, although the music is on my iPod. When I click on the sync button, it starts to sync -- for about 5 seconds -- and does nothing. So I had to manually import all of my music from my hard drive into iTunes, but it still won't sync. Same thing with videos and photos.

It is not anyones fault but yours for not doing the absolute basics by maintaining a backup copy of your purchases. What did you think would happen to everything on your computer like pictures or documents and other info if your computer/hard drive were to fail?
