I am having trouble with LR 4.4 and videos

I have a video folder of 16 clips generated by a D300s. I am able to load about half of them properly into the LR catalog. The remainder appear to load but without thumbnails. (I get a message "Preview is unavailable for this file" when I can see the preview in the Windows folder directly.) The remainder also do not play in LR although the first eight do. I have tried rebooting and reloading. This helps with a few but not all of the clips.
I tried the process again, rebooting and reloading the files directly from my memory card, first to the windows folder and then to LR., This is the message I got from LR.
There is a problem with the video file (16)
C:\Users\halevine\Pictures\Photographs 2-14-2013 and later\Grandchildren Eleanor\2013\6-30 to 7-7\Cambridge videos 6-30-07-7-2013\DSC_5754.AVI
(repeated for the other 15 files.)
The file sizes are between 80 and 220 mb. (Quicktime is installed on my computer and they open fine in it.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After much experimentation, I managed to load the video files directly from the sd card into my LR catalogue in such a way that the preview images were all visable. However, when I hover the curser over some of the preview images, I get the spinning wheel instead of a scroll through the video clip.It seems to be taking a very long time for some of the clips to be usable in the manner intended by Adobe.
I should say that I ran these same files on my macbook pro in the second copy of LR that Adobe allows. Everything worked fine.
Anyone have any ideas for the problem with the LR version in Windows (my OS is Windows 7). Will LR 4.4.1 help?

Argh - once again, I find my solution right after posting this. Left out one modification to the SWIG script, now it runs in 29 seconds vs C 16 seconds, I can live with that.

Having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper

I've been having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper and similar "services." Tried to download "MPlayerX" a week ago and it all started then. I thought I deleted the file but I'm still having trouble. I've been digging for solutions on here, but nothing I've found on here has worked yet--the VSearch stuff (I think) isn't on my hard drive. Any advice?

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.venus.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.venus.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:

The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
          Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
          Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

You didn't mention what those "other functions" were. That might help!
First thing to check is System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab - make sure "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" is un-checked. Hopefully that still works in Mountain Lion.

Which iTunes, on iPad, iTunes is a Store and it won't take your .mp4.
On pc, check if it supports the mp4 (there are a number of different mp4 format) you have converted.
Can you import it to computer iTunes?

Anyone having trouble with App Store install and cloud store buttons not working after 6.1 update? I go to install an app. I hit install and nothing happens. About a minute later it asks me for my password and then it does nothing. The install button goes back to saying install. However the app shows up in my installed list and in cloud but no app installed.

OK - I found a helpful post - closed app store app and under Settings/General/Date and Time I reset the date and time by switching off "Set Automatically" and then switching it on again. Went back to App Store, launched it and Updatesseems to be working again.
Go figure? Logical, No!

Here are the steps I have taken and the results:
Changed my Apple ID with new email address.
Changed my iCloud with above new email address.
NOW - Apple ID appears correct in AppStore Settings, iCloud and AppStore*
If I scroll to bottom of screen in *App Store/Featured, I can see that the Apple ID is my new email.
Upon “updating” Apple ID reflects OLD email.
Deleted accounts, re-added accounts.
Signed out and signed in with new UN/Email
Issue remains the same.

To migrate your data to a new iCloud account go to Settings>iCloud and turn off all synced data (contacts, calendars, etc.), when prompted choose to keep the data on your phone. After everything is set to off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Next, create the new iCloud account on your phone and turn on syncing for contacts, calendars, etc again. If prompted, choose Merge. This will upload your data to the new iCloud account.

Having trouble with my airport wireless and connecting to FIOS

I had FIOS installed right after the holidays and have been having trouble getting my mac and airport to connect wirelessly to FIOS. I have an actiontec router and have changed it to a WPA security key. I worked on it about two weeks ago and got it working, not even sure what I changed. Then we got the last software update and it must have changed a setting back because it will no longer work. I can connect via a cable, just not wirelessly. It will say it found the network and is connected, but I can't get to the internet. Any help would be appreciated?

It sounds like your wireless connection is working correctly. You have power cycled all devices on the network, correct?
If not, power everything off for a few minutes, start the modem/router first and let it run a few minutes by itself, then start your computer(s).
If still no luck, can you temporarily disable the security on your network to see if you can connect that way? If you can, then it will take some experimenting to find a compatible setting between the router and computer(s).
If you can't connect with no security, then the focus turns to the router settings. Not sure what to suggest there as I'm not familiar with the FIOS equipment.

Downloaded new OS and having trouble with wifi, bluetooth Facebook and Skype performance

When I first loaded this it had a lot of trouble finding my Wifi again and would disengage. Problem went away after a few hours but it recurred this am. Also affected Facebook.
Skype is loading more slowly and jumps to a black screen for 10-20 seconds. Then it will load and function but only for a few seconds to a minute and then shuts off completely.
Launching Skype also resultd in my bluetooth headset being disengaged sometimes.
Reinstalled Skype to see if that fixed anything.
Tried turning off bluetooth to see if that fixed the skype problem - nope still disengaged.
Cycled my router and cable and still no fix...
Running Z30
Would love to get a fix on this.

Given all of your issues, I'd guess that something did not go well with the update, and a clean reload would be in order. You accomplish that either through the LINK software or by obtaining an AutoLoader.

Having trouble with InDesign CS4, fonts and newspaper RIP

Hi all,
I am the production manager for a student newspaper. We've been having random font issues where text is missing or replaced with Myriad ever since we upgraded from CS3 to CS4. Our printer is saying that we may have different font versions installed on different workstations. But the machines (Intel iMacs running 10.5) are all running the same disk image, and we had no font issues when we ran CS3 on them previously (indentical font folder on every machine).
Additionally, we've had similar problems with camera-ready ad files since moving to CS4. I can't control the fonts my customers use, so how to do I rectify this with CS4? In the past we never had any problems once we made a X-1a PDF that sanitized everything.
Are there any known issues with newspaper RIPs and X-1a PDFs generated from InDesign CS4? Everything looks, prints and preflights 100% okay in-house. I have opened an affected PDF on OS X, Vista, in Acrobat and Preview and printed on genuine PostScript (Ricoh SP C811DN and Ricoh SP 8200) as well as non-PostScript printers (a little HP 1012) and cannot replicate the issue on my end, so it seems like a RIP issue to me.
I could roll everyone back to CS3 but that would be a lot of work, and we really like CS4 otherwise ... so, any ideas?

I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention the printer's name, but this is a big one who prints national papers and one of our big local dailies, not Crazy Jim's Discount Printing or anything like that.

OK, we've got your file here at Adobe. Although it preflights correctly for PDF/X, running a custom preflight profile with Acrobat 9 Pro shows font problems. (I've attached the preflight report.) The problems are not severe enough to prevent normal display and simple PostScript printing of your file, but possibly really doing a job with less forgiving software that your newspaper printer is using as part of their workflow.
Without knowing what that software and workflow is exactly, there isn't much I can do other than speculate. But there is something technically wrong with the
Bureau Grotesque and
Miller Display font families you are using? Are they OpenType fonts? Were they originally in OpenType format or did someone convert them? Anyway, if you can get permission to send me off-list the content and fonts, we would love to analyze what's going on here!

I am having trouble with my audio software and CoreAudio (seemingly)

Hi. I use my computer to run several audio-based programs on my Macbook such as Logic Pro, Ableton Live and junXion. Today, when practicing a laptop-based set with a friend, I used firewire into a Digidesign interface (I can't remember the exact make). In order to get this connection to work, I installed Avid's 002 firewire drivers.
Everything worked fine, however later on, after I had disconnected and shut down etc, I was unable to open any of my software that requires CoreAudio. This is quite worrying honestly. They just bounce on the dock for a while but do not open. It seems to stop when it gets to 'Checking MIDI Drivers', and then eventually (after quite a while might I add), it estimates that something is wrong with the MIDI drivers and asks to restart. I have done this several times but nothing has changed.
I noticed that in my audio devices (both input and output), it still says 'Digi CoreAudio Device', even though I am obviously no longer connected to that. I decided to try deleting the 002 firewire drivers from Avid, but this came to no avail, and it still says on my audio devices that the Digi CoreAudio Device is still there.
What is the problem here? Can anyone help me?
Fortunately, my Alesis M1 Active 320 USB monitors still work, and appear in my audio devices whenever I plug them in, and then disappear when disconnected. But it seems that something relating to to these Avid drivers have truly caused everything to go haywire.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Aha! I have sorted it.
For those with similar problems, the solution is this:
Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers
Then delete DigiDioMidiDriver.plugin
