Hi blaven47, And Welcome To Discussions!
Jaguar 10.2, Panther 10.3, and Tiger 10.4, are complete system upgrades, and must be purchased.

  • I'm trying to run a program that says I need mac osx /c firefox +2 - what is +2

I need to take an online course and pass a test... the course states I need Mac OSX with firefox +2, I don't know what +2 is, I don't think I have it because the course is telling me my system is not compatible. how can I make my system work? If it helps, the course is AHA online PALS course for health care providers.

You should always use the latest Firefox release to get the latest bug and security patches.
You can find the full version of the latest Firefox 26.0 release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:
If the current Firefox release isn't working then you need to contact the website and ask them which Firefox versions they support.
If you can post a link to a public page that doesn't require authentication (login) that generates this error message then we can have a look at it.

    Processor 2 GHz Core Duo. 2 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 .

Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
If yours is truly a Core Duo then it cannot run Mountain Lion. Snow Leopard is the latest you can install.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $29.00 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

  • Help needed with OSX Server 10.5.8

We're running a headless Xserve (RackMac3,1) with OSX Server 10.5.8 that did its job flawlessly.
Now we want to update the Perl software from 5.8.6 to 5.20.0 or newer. After downloading the suitable version from CPAN we tried to install, but get the following msg:
Uh-oh, the C compiler 'cc' doesn't seem to be working.
You need to find a working C compiler.
Either (purchase and) install the C compiler supplied by your OS vendor,
or for a free C compiler try http://gcc.gnu.org/
I cannot continue any further, aborting.
Is there a way to install the missing tools remotely via the command line (SSH)? A step-by-step recipe would be most welcome.
    - Harald -

RackMac3,1 is PPC/G5 processor so you are not going to have an easy time with this. Perl 5.2.20 is bleeding edge (OS X 10.10.3 comes with v5.16.3).
I would leave Apple's installation of Perl, etc. on the server strictly alone and install MacPorts:
         The MacPorts Project -- Home
and work from there. You aren't likely to get a step-by-step recipe because its not an exercise a rational person would chose to spend time on.
Have you considered rewriting whatever features in your code require Perl 5.2.20 than to upgrade your server? Or buy a new server, you could probably pick up a Mini for about $200.

  • Need Mac OSX 10.7 Build server

We bought some new Mac Minis and on one of them I need to have Mac OSX 10.7 running so I installed VMWare Fusion
However, when I go to install the O/S on the VM Image, I can't find a Mac OSX 10.7 (Lion) Installation Disk Image to boot the image to begin the install process.
I can find Update Images but they don't boot the image.  I need a .dmg file that will start the install process of Mac OSX 10.7 and Apple isn't allowing me to download an Image (.dmg) file.  It just keeps trying to run the install and that doesn't work because the install process is trying to run on the Mac OSX 10.8 machine NOT the VM Image that I'm trying to spin up.
Where can I find a Lion Install Disk Image?

OK - thanks.  I understand what I will have to do but I'm not happy about it.
I have 100's of machines that I support and the Macs are always the most troublesome because Apple doesn't understand how IT professionals need to operate.  I can't telnet to the Mac to get this to work, I literally have to get on the console on a machine that's across the country to download an image file (using safari) which then I have to copy that image file to a netshare in order to get back to the machine I was working on.  I then have to run a second Update on the O/S to get 10.7.5.  Instead of simply supplying an image file of the latest O/S, I need to waste a day jumping through hoops doing things "The Apple Way".
I appreciate your attention to this.

  • "Update needed" on OSX boot. How to remove it?

    Hello guys!
First off, thanks for the opportunity.
Recently I've erased my iMac hard drive and chosen, in Disk Utility, to encrypt my data.
Everything went okay, except for one little problem.
When I boot OSX, it shows me up an misterious user named "Update needed". What is this?
I've searched the web for a quick solution, but unfortunately, the most suggested option I've found is:
Turn off FileVault, wait many hours to decrypt data and, turn it on again (and of course, wait some hours to encrypt).
Did anyone got this problem and solved it in a much easier way?
    Thanks for the help!

I had this too and I turned off FireVault and the computer did its decrypt/encrypt in about 30 minutes. This corrected my initial login showing mystery man with ? and update needed wording. I now go straight to my login window with the proper login window.

You have copied the package to a "Packages" folder in /Applications.
    And how can solve it?
    Don't do that.
Run the installer from the DMG file where it lives.

  • Help needed at OSX problems on my iMac

    Hi
I tried to install Boot Camp and Win XP on my iMac, but something went wrong. Now I cant find the partition with both operation systems on....
Then I tried the OSX installation program by using install disc 1, but the setup program wont find the partitions.
In "disctools" (am not sure about the right name in english) the disc is found but "locked", and I cant delete/reformat or anything....
    What should I do?

  • I need an OSX Snow Leopard disk

I have lost my SL disk and need to revert this machine back to basics.  Where can I get a disk or a download?

Specifically, the phone support for the Apple Online Store will sell you one. The local stores stopped carrying them long ago.
If your Mac came with 10.6, you may also be able to ask for a replacement copy of the Mac OS that shipped with it. Your serial number is the key, and you have to push your way to a specialist-level support person to order it (there is a nominal charge).

  • How do I remove a malware app that says it is needed for OSx and can't be removed?

Some how I got an app named console on my computer yesterday.  When I try to uninstall it or drag it out of the Application folder or the utilities folder (it is in both of them) it says "“Console” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by OS X.

Is it because you have software that can't go beyond 10.4.9?

  • I have OSX 10.6.8 and i am told i need 10.7.4 to get the latest version of imovie how do I go about this?

I have an iMac running OSX 10.6.8. I currently have iMovie version 8.0.6 and would like to upgrade iMovie to iMovie 11
I am told I need Mac OSX Version 10.7.4. How do I go about upgrading the operating system.
    Many Thanks

Not so. iMovie 11 works fine with Snow Leopard.
As for upgrading your operating system:
You can purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • Setting up a small office network - advice needed

We are to move our small office (3 people) from a shared office environment to our own office space. That has the huge advantage that we´ll finally be Mac-only, but the agreeable disadvantage that there is no longer a networking professional around. And this is where I enter. I now have to find a solution on how to set up the network, and I do not have experience in that field (though I am fairly experienced with OSX).
As of today we have a G5 iMac, a G4 powermac and a G4 iBook. In the not too far future we will be getting a proper G5 powermac as well.
The G4 is used for low key office applications, Word and Mail mostly. The iMac is the workhorse that runs all graphic/video applications. It also is used for presentations once in a while, so that this machine is not always available. The iBook is used for writing and e-mail plus some light-weight field editing.
I would like to find a solution that we could store all important files on one computer, so that it would be easier to make regular back-ups. And everyone could easily access those files.
It would be great if data from iCal and Adress Book could also be stored centrally, such as that addresses are available for everyone, and updated calenders are available for all employees.
As the budget should be as small as possible, I was wondering if we could use the G4 powerbook (867mhz, 1gig memory) to run a sharing service in the background. Then I could also install a second harddisk and use both hdd as a backing-up-raid. Once in a while I would make a backup on a external firewire disk.
Is this a possible solution, or should we rather have one machine dedicated as a server. Would it be sufficient then to use the G4 as that server and buy a MacMini or iMac as the office machine?
Since it is a small network, would I still need an OSX server license, or is the standard OSX enough for this?
iMac G5 20, G4 QS 867mhz, iBook G4, PB 190, and a Pentium that I haven't switched on in months...   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Experienced with technology, just not with networking...

There are two ways to set up a network:
    1 peer-to-peer
    2 client-server
Peer-to-peer is cheaper, but not reliable. Apple supports peer-to-peer in OS X. (In fact, in all versions of the Mac OS since System 7.) You can have up to 10 users connected to any one machine using peer-to-peer. (Warning... if you have more than five users, that machine is going to get slow.) The various peers are used as normal workstations while sharing. You have three peers, and may get one or two more, so you can use peer-to-peer. Just don't overdo it. Your planed usage of a few Word docs and a few graphics files sounds about right.
Under OS X the peers are limited to sharing specific folders only, unless they use 3rd-party software such as SharePoint, which allows the sharing of any and all folders.
It seems that you plan to use the G4 as a 'server' using peer-to-peer. You also seem to be planing to add additional drives, and RAID. I'd get a high end IDE PCI card, or a FireWire card, or a SCSI card, for the G4. Depending on which G4 you have, you can stick up to four hard drives in the case if you go IDE or internal FireWire or SCSI. External SCSI or FireWire drive configuratins are limited only by the drive slots available (7 for low-end SCSI, 15 for high-end SCSI, 63 for FireWIre) and the space available. (And, of course, the budget availanle...) You can get dedicated RAID controllers.
For backup I'd get DVD or tape. Tape holds more and is easier to use, but is expensive (you have no idea how expensive, but I suspect you'll find out) and can be finicky. DVD is a lot cheaper, but it's slow, and someone will have to sit and feed discs into the machine. This will get old really fast. If your backup requirements are modest, DVDs might do, but probably you'll need something else. You could just buy an external hard disk and back up to that...
Apple charges US$500 for OS X Server 10 seat version. (They charge $1000 for the 255-seat version.) OS X Server should run on the G4, and will turn it into a full-fledged server.
Any of the O'Reilly books on OS X Server and/or on Samba should help you get started. O'Reilly's _Using Samba_ has a section devoted specifically to SMB on OS X Server which should be quite helpful.

  • I want to install hybrid drive in Macbook pro. I bought my Mac book with lion and am now running mountain lion. I was told I needed install disk to set up new drive before restoring from my time capsule. Is this correct and if so how do I get disk osx10?

I purchased a Mac book Pro in Aug 2012 with lion and have upgraded to mountain lion. I currently am looking to install the segate 750 gig hybrid drive. I watching video I shows me needing a OSX 10 disk to boot off of when the new disk is in and the use time capsule to restore system from back up drive to new hybrid. Hope I got this correct so far. that being said my Mac Book did not come with a disk therefore is one available, when I get to point of restoring from back up with it be the same mountain lion system I had. Sorr if this sounds redudant.. Thank you in advance

Connect the new hybrid drive to your MBP.  Start up your MBP holding the OPTION key, the two HDD icons will appear.  Select the 'restore' icon on the right.  When you get to the menu where you have 4 options, select Disk Utility.  Format the drive and then you can use the option of restoring it from Time Machine.
    Ciao.

  • Can I upgrade my OSX 10.2?

Hi, I have a osx 10.2 which is now really old and I can't download new versions of iPhoto and iTunes etc. When I go to upgrade an appliation such as iTunes I'm told that I need a 10.3 or higher.
This is really annoying because all my applications are now really old and i can't get new ones. I think i'm still using iTunes 4! I was going to buy an ipod nano and I noticed you need an osx 10.3.2 or higher.
Is there anyway i can upgrade my 10.2? Or is it time for a brand new one.
Any help would be much appreciated

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Yes your iMac will support up to OS X 10.4.8 (called Tiger) which is the highest version to date.
    1. Tiger likes to have a lot of RAM so if you have 128Mb you'll certainly need to upgrade and if you have 256Mb you probably should upgrade.
If you post back with you processor speed and your RAM size (both found in Apple Menu > About this Mac ) I can advise where, and which RAM, to buy in the UK.
    2. After that all you need to do is buy a copy of Tiger (click here). If you are a student or teacher you can get a significant discount on OS X.
    3. Once you receive the disk Back-up your important . The Install process shouldn't touch it but accidents can happen.
    4. Use Apple's Disk Utility to run Repair Permissions (Macintosh HD > Applications> Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on Macintosh HD on the left hand pane and then click "Repair Permissions". ) You should repeat this after the upgrade to.
    5. Then insert the disk and use the Upgrade option.
    6. Enjoy your new Mac! - Tiger is significantly improved over Jaguar (10.2) there are some really nice additional features in there. Even if you are an experienced Mac user you may wish to have a look at Mac101 in the meantime.
