I am looking to purchase something to organize all of family media. We have two iphones, a macbook, ipad, nano and i want something that can hold all the media and their cords in an orderly way. I have seen multiple ipad chargers or ipad and iphone chargers but not something for everything. HELP!

  • Does Something Like This Exist Already (for Window Managers)

I know that one can use idesk to produce launchers for desktop programs in window managers like Openbox, but what about an actual small file manager, that always sits on the desktop, confined to its own little space.  Kind of like conky, if this makes sense.
I don't have a great deal of programming knowledge, just basics, but I've toyed with the idea of making a script to constantly reedit the idesk config file to do this, and while it could work, it's messy at best, and doesn't provide the same desired effect that a small desktop folder sitting on the WM desktop would.
If this does exist, I give my apologies, but I did try to search Google for it, but got junk results.  Also, would something like this be feasible? (I am looking for a way to improve my programming skills over the summer, and was thinking that this could possibly be a way to do it.)  Even further, would it be acceptable to use Python for it?

    Hi!
I don't really get what you mean... the Desktop usually is a file manager, isn't it? I'm not sure if Thunar draws the desktop, but Nautilus can even be pretty bitchy if something else (like conky) wants to have a piece. I didn't care enough about rox and its "everything's a folder"-philosophy to take a really close look at it, but there was an option to have it provide a desktop, too, if I remember right. And rox sounded/looks a lot, as it would provide the most "normal filemanager" behaviour when providing the Desktop (didn't try though - maybe I will).

Did my best to try to elaborate by using an example there on a screenshot of my desktop. (A sloppy edit done in the GIMP)
EDIT: What I would be looking for is something contained to that spot, so that way, if I were to right click inside of the rectangle, such as on a file, I would get options with what to open the file, or something else, even copy, cut, paste, or delete.  However, if I were to right click outside of the rectangle, I would get my openbox menu.  Hope this helps make more sense.

  • Does something like this exist for mac somewhere?

    http://www.bitboost.com/pawsense/
I've recently gotten a cat that loves my desk and keyboard. I've had to resort to unplugging my keyboard whenever i'm not by it. While it isn't a big deal, i'd prefer it if i didn't have to. Is there something similar for mac?

yeah, i know that's an option too, but the problem is it doesn't work when i'm watching a movie or something full screen or have just stepped away from my computer for a second.

    Hi julia151,
I would first use this article to make sure any extra Apple IDs were not accidentally created when signing up for one of Apple's services:

  • My MacBook works fine wifi everywhere except for home.  The home wifi is fine with the iPad and iPhone.  How can I fix my MacBook?

My MacBook works fine wifi everywhere except for home.  The home wifi is fine with the iPad and iPhone, so I assume the issue is with my computer.  My computer works fine on wifi networks elsewhere.  The only problem is at home.
The computer "connects to the wifi," but browsers and other internet-dependent software do not work.  Curiously, if I connect the ethernet cord that doesn't work either. Usually if I reset the modem to factory settings twice (for some reason, once doesn't do the trick), my computer will fully connect to the wifi.  However, in a few days, it goes back to not working.
Today, resetting the modem didn't work. I could only get wifi connection while in safe mode, but not in normal mode.  So, the issue seems to be software not hardware. I have tried starting new accounts in normal mode, but those also don't connect properly to internet.
Not sure if this is relevant, but this problem started when my building switched internet providers from ComHem to Telia (I live in Sweden).
What do you recommend I do?
    Thanks!
PS I use Snow Leopard: OS 10.6.8

Not unless the modem is causing a problem.
What you want to do is get it to work reliably over Ethernet first, then tackle wifi. Power off the modem. On your macbook, delete the Ethernet configuration and the Wifi configuration. Power up the modem, then connect the mac via Ethernet. Create the new Ethernet configuration and see if you can connect.

As Bob says, any iMap service can do this. GMail can, iCLoud mail can too.
Both of these can be used with Mail on any device.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

I've found an easier way, just go to settings>general>usage>music. Then swipe it and press delete, i think this deletes the database described above, then re-sync, this worked for me anyway. Good luck, you need it with Apple software.
I don't have a large library of music on my iPhone 4s since I've only had it since Oct 2012, but since the update to iTunes 11 in early December, my album artwork has been all messed up.  Everytime I would try to add new music, it would assign the wrong album artwork to anything new coming in.  And in addition to that, it would also mess up album artwork of music already on my phone.  Everything looked correct in iTunes, but on my phone, not so much.  After trying to unsynch, then synching again, my frustration level was at an all-time high. This problem seems to be everywhere online, but no concrete solution for everyone.
I finally came across your simple solution (at least for me because of my small inventory of music) of just deleting all the music through the settings, and then re-synching to add back my music.  Now all of the album artwork is correct again.  I'm almost afraid to add new music for fear the artwork will get mixed up all over again! I still think my issue is somehow connected to the iTunes 11 update because up until then I had no issues whatsoever. Anyway, thanks for an easy solution that worked for me.

  • What Perspective Grid settings for something like this?

This has been confounding my for more time than I care to admit. How would I set up a Perspective Grid for something like this? I don't know where to begin. I'm used to drawing simlple buildings from an eye-level view, but obviously with something like this, the viewer is looking way up .

    Hello Cheryl,
This is technically a 3P perspective; you mentioned the viewer is looking way up - such a scene is called worm's eye view.
I tried setting up a grid over the image. The point where the two red lines meet is the third Vanishing Point. The two other VPs are to be located by extending the two yellow and the two green lines till they intersect in the direction shown by the two arrows. However this will be at an infinite distance and this way the view can be thought of as 1P perspective as Jet & Michael have opined. Remember that camera lenses can create skewed and distorted perspective. Illustrator's grid cannot match that. Moreover Illustrator's grid is also limited by the application's canvas size i.e., the entire grid has to fit in the canvas. When drawing on a sheet of paper you can actually visualize one or more VP out of your drawing sheet.
Anyway the closest approximation to this kind of perspective can be achieved in Illustrator by placing the image on the top of the canvas such that the 3rd VP lies almost on the top edge of the canvas. The eye-level in case of worm's eye view is zero. So the horizon line coincides with the ground line and both lie virtually on the bottom edge of the canvas. The left & right grid will then let you to draw the walls of the building as above.

  • I have same Apple ID for iPhone iPad and my daughters iPod and iPad mini. Can I obtain another iCloud account for her without changing her Apple ID. She had a iCloud account on old iPod bit can't retrieve it.

Me and my daughter have same Apple ID for my iPhone iPad and her iPod and iPad mini. Is there any way to get an iCloud account for her devices without changing her Apple ID. She has an old iCloud account from older iPod but  can't activate it or remember her old iCloud account.
    Thanks

You have to use a different Apple ID to create a new iCloud account (each ID can only be used with a single account).  You don't have to use the ID for anything else though, she can continue to use her current ID for other services such as iTunes, iMessage, FaceTime, etc.
The only limitation is that each device can only create three iCloud accounts.

  • Syncing Outlook for Mac with a hotmail pop accountto 'mail' on iphone, ipad and ipod

I'm using Outlook for Mac 2011, with a hotmail account set up as a pop account to my outlook inbox.  I also have that same hotmail account set up on my iphone, ipad and ipod.  Is there a way to sync my e-mail between Outlook for Mac and the 'mail' on my other devices, so that when I delete an email on my computer, it deletes on all devices?
I'm not so tech savvy and am happy to provide any additional information but am not sure where to start!  I would appreciate any help you can give me.
    Thank you

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Contacts (Address Book).

  • Adobe Flash Builder 4 licence is for one desktop and one laptop, only one at a time run or

After installing Adobe Flash Builder 4 needed install AIR? Adobe Flex 4 SDK IS ALREADY INCLUDED?
Adobe Flash Builder 4 licence is for one desktop and one laptop, only one at a time run or...?

    hi,
Flashbuilder has the ability to create and run Air content from the IDE, to actually usean Air App outside of the IDE you need to install Air.
Flashbuilder install includes 2 sdks, the 3.5 sdk for 'backward' compatibility with Flexbuilder and for targeting flashplayer 9, the 4.x SDK for Flashbuilder and  targetting flashplayer 10.0 and above.
As far as fair use is concerned Adobe have had fair use software licensing for a while, single user 2 devices is not a problem, what is not clear is if you can use the software on both devices at the same time.
