I am looking to buy a multifunction printer. that has 2 trays.

I need 2 seperate trays
1 to hold A4 paper
And 1 to hold Envelopes.
I do-not want to have to take the paper out and then load envelopes.
i need an Auto feed for the envelopes like for the paper A4 Paper.

I like the HP OfficeJet 8600 Premium. It does have 2 trays with Tray 1 being the default tray. Tray 2 only supports plain paper. So, you could put envelopes in Tray 1 and change the default to Tray 2.

This problem is not unheard of when upgrading from Snow Leopard. It is usually solved by completely deleting the existing printer in System Preferences > Print & Scan, and adding it again.

I would like to buy a HP printer that works with Windows 8 preview.

Understand that HP will not release drivers for existing printers until August at earliest and that is OK....I have 3 HP Laserjet 1020s that have been great and will buy a new HP printer if it will work now with Windows 8 preview. Any suggestions or any fixes/patches for 1020 that work. Also interested in any non-HP printers that work with Windows 8 preview? Prefer HP but will buy first printer that works from any mfg. as I would like to give Windows 8 a real try. Believe HP is missing boat by not putting a patch out for some of their printers as soon as possible as I am not the only HP user looking to buy any printer that works with Windows 8.

Is there a printer that turns on automatically when you select print for a document that works with a mac. I used to have an old Canon i960 printer with my Windows PC and it was configurable in software for on demand on-off when printing a document.
Does anyone know of one preferably multifunction photo inkjet.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but a printer must be consuming a little electricity for it to sense and respond to a command to turn on and print. Therefore, I suggest you forget buying a new printer with this feature and simply leave the printer you already have on all the time.

How to print on a printer that has no OSX driver?????

I recently bought a new lexmark X2350 all in one printer, when i got it home i realised that there was no driver provided. I googled with no luck i treid and i emailed lexmark they were less than helpfull.
Is there any universal printer drivers out there or any programs that can help get around this problem?

Your only real option is going to be returning the printer or selling it and buying a compatible printer.

There are universal drivers for printers which use standardised languages such as Postscript or PCL5 but even if the X2350 did use a standard printer language without a specific driver, the other functionality of the X2350 would not be available.
You are going to have to get a new printer.

Do I need to buy an ethernet switch that has a WAN port

I want to buy an Aiport Express to handle a WiFi only iPad and an old PPC iMac with 10.5.8 on it that has no WiFi card. The iMac gets on the internet from a cable plugged directly into its ethernet port (using DHCP). The cable comes off an antenna at the front of the cottage. A signal hits the antenna from a broadcasting tower about half a mile away.
I need to buy an ethernet switch for the Aiport Express to handle both the iPad wirelessly and the wired iMac. Does the switch have to have a WAN port or can I buy one with five LAN ports?

So here's what I am planning to do. I get myself an ethernet switch. I plug my cable from my antenna into it. I run a cable from one of its five ports into my iMac. I run a cable from one of its other ports into my Airport Express. I configure the Airport Express in Bridge Mode. Now my wife can connect to the web wirelessly using the iPad and I can connect using the wired iMac --- and we can do so at the same time and indpendently of one another. No?

You only have one IP address. With a switch feeding two devices, it will be a matter of chance as to which device gets the IP address.
The other device will not be able to connect to the Internet, since a switch cannot "split" the connection.
Instead, you need a simple wired router to "share" the public IP address that you receive. In turn, the router distributes "private" IP addresses to devices on your local network, so each device will be able to connect to the Internet.
As I mentioned, a switch cannot perform the functions of a router.

When you attempt to print the end result is extremely tiny print that has each letter spaced thre or four spaces apart. Darn near impossible to read ! I am about ready to cancel the beta !

I don't know why Firefox 4 beta affects whatever I try to print but it sure does ! every letter is about four spaces from the next letter. That weird spacing is caused by a Bug in 4.0b12. It was fixed for the 4.0RC version due out this week. As far as the size of the letters being printed, that can be changed in File > Page Setup - '''Scale''' = 100% or Shrink to Fit is normal, but it can be made larger by going over 100% or using a '''Custom''' setting in Print Preview.

After not being happy with HP and Lexmark printers I decided to try Epson and have not looked at anyone else since. Their quality is outstanding and have not had a single issue with either of mine since I bought them. They do great for photos but are also great for basic printing needs. I dont do a lot of printing so my cartridges easily last a year. Best Buy has a WorkForce 2530 for 80 dollars. Its a All In One (Print/Scan/Copy/Fax) or you can get the 2540 which is basically the same but it has wireless printing so a computer does not have to be physically connected to it to print for 100 dollars. Also both of them accept Epson Connect. Which is a app on tablets and smartphones that allow you to print directly from them as well.
The one I have has memory card slots for direct printing of photos. Of course mine is no longer made but the next WorkForce up that adds those memory card and USB slot is the 3520 which runs about 130.

Printing to a Windows Hosted Printer that has NO Mac Drivers

Okay, I'm stumped.
I just inherited a Canon ImageClass MF5730 MFP from my father's home office. Fantastic Laser MFP that is USB connected to my wife's PC running XP. Prints great from her PC, along with Scans, Copies etc....
I went to connect to it from my Mac, and discovered that there are no print drivers for this Canon printer, nor do the standard generics work either.
Is there a way to leverage the print drivers that Windows uses in it's hosted share spooler to allow me to print to this printer? Alternatively, is there another option that may provide some relief to me? I would really like to use this printer, as the quality is amazing compared to the current solution I'm using!

Can I get the serial number for a printer that has been stolen?

I know that when I got the printer, I did an online registration. Is any of that information available?
I purchased it from Staples and I am looking for the receipt but no luck yet.

If you registered the product you should be able to find the information through HP's registration information page here. I just checked mine and it had devices going back about 10 years with the product types and serial numbers.

HT204350 How do I know if the migration assistant is actually working? I got as far as a screen that says it is "Transferring your information" and there is what looks like a progress bar but that has moving blue diagonal lines rather than any progress

The fan on my target computer is whirring away and so it sounds like something is happening. But there doesnt seem to be any way of telling from either the traget or the source computer if the thing is actually working. How many hours should I wait before concluding that something has gone wrong? I have over 100GB of data so I am not expecting it to be fast!
Is it normal for the source computer to just drop out of migration asssistant at the begining, or should there be some sort of indication that it is working? What about if I use activity monitor is there any clues I should be looking for there?

If that migration happens to still be chugging along, you're in luck. We've got step-by-step instructions for performing an Erase & Install on the new MacBook Pro. This will restore it to 'factory defaults,' just like it came out of the box for the first time, allowing you to start fresh with an alternative migration method.

Why is it that ICloud can't be accessed without buying a new device that has O-5 or higher. What a RIP OFF.

A colleague send me an email that he had posted some joint work (many pgs/photos/charts in ICloud. Needless to say, I had not access to an Apple device running O5 or higher, so though I could download ICloud, it couldn't be accessed. When I called Apple support, I was advised that I would have to buy a new device to see and download the materials. This is a blatent ripoff. The Cloud is for sharing, not for greedy corporations to force consumers to buy new products. Why is it that Microsoft's cloud is open to all and Apples' isn't? Who's the bad guy here?

Use the Microsoft cloud, it's open, Apples is for Macs, iDevices, and may be accessed (but not created) on Windows 7 and 8.
