I am missing my search bar to Firefox - how to do I get it back

My Search Bar is missing - how do I get it back??

Do you still have the Navigation Toolbar visible?
*Firefox menu button > Options
*View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the menu bar)
*Right-click empty toolbar area
Use Toolbar Layout (Customize) to open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.
*if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
*if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup
You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file if the above didn't help.

If you read [[How do I customize the toolbars?]], you can find the customize box. Simply drag the Google search bar into this box, and it will be gone :)

  • One solution for missing Linux search bar options in Debian-based distros.

All search options and the ability to add/remove/edit and get more disappeared.
I uninstalled Firefox for politcal reasons in April, then reinstalled it (after a bit of research convinced me my protest was better aimed elsewhere.) The search bar failed to work.
    These all failed:
    > sudo apt-get remove firefox
    > sudo apt-get install firefox
    > sudo dpkg-reconfigure firefox
    > rm -Rvf ~/mozilla/firefox*
menu-->help-->troubleshooting [reset Firefox] nor [open profile directory]
    SOLUTION:
When searching for version numbers in dpkg, I noticed two packages for firefox
    > dpkg -l | grep firefox
ii firefox 29.0.1 amd64 The Firefox web browser
rc firefox-solydxk-adjustments 29.0.1 all Firefox adjustments for SolydXK
    > man dpkg
confirmed my suspicion that the solydxk tweaks to firefox may have been broken by removing and installing firefox. (rc indicated neither properly installed, nor uninstalled.)
    > sudo apt-get remove firefox-solydxk-adjustments
    > sudo apt-get install firefox-solydxk-adjustments
Everythings working now. dpkg shows both packages installed correctly.
    > dpkg -l | grep firefox
ii firefox 29.0.1 amd64 The Firefox web browser
ii firefox-solydxk-adjustments 29.0.1 all Firefox adjustments for SolydXK
I don't know how many Debian forks (Mint, Solyd, Ubuntu, Librenet, etc) might be similarly affected, but I thought I'd get this out there since I know at least one Mint user has seen it this past March.

Note that Firefox 30.0 has be out since Tuesday June 10 from [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ Mozilla.org] so there may be a Firefox 30.0 now from your Linux distro if you choose to use those builds instead.

  • Missing Vertical Scroll Bar on Firefox browser

I have lost my vertical scroll bar on Firefox after installing Minefield. I have tried uninstalling both programs and reinstalling Firefox but the scroll bar is still missing. Firefox is running the default Theme. The scroll bar comes back when Firefox is running in Safe Mode. Can anyone help?

I have a Mac with Firefox 5.0.1. I had the same problem with the vertical scrollbar. After reading your post I began disabling my most recent add-ons. Findbar Tweak 0.5.2 was the problem. Thanks for the help!

  • Doing a Google search via search bar freezes Firefox

I upgraded Firefox to 4.0 RC.
Now when I enter something in the Google search bar and click on "Search", I DO get results, but then Firefox freezes. I cannot do anything. Firefox has to be closed by ending the process in Task Manager.

That happened to me today as well. If you're looking for the cached page, click the green triangle after the URL.

  • I submit a keyword in the search bar and Firefox gives me a blank page.

When I type a keyword in the search bar on my Firefox start page, it sends me to a blank page instead of giving me search results.

Is that on the about:home page?
Try to reset the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the about:config page and close and restart Firefox to restore the about:home page to its default.<br />
    Close and restart Firefox.

  • How to make Android's built in search bar invoke Firefox for Android?

Firefox for Android is already my default browser, yet Android's built in search widget that seems to be on the home screen when any Android phone is unboxed is still invoking the default browser. An other thing to note is my phone has Android 4.1 and came with chrome preinstalled yet the old default browser that came with older versions of Android also came preinstalled, and was the original default browser on my phone, not chrome as my reading of recent web chatter had led me believe.

Yeah my phone is too cheap for anyone to want to spend the time to develop a rooting method I tried moding some exploits and running them through SuperOneClick and similar tools and even tried manually through the android developer's tool kit, and ssh-ing into my phone to no avail so moding some code and making a custom img is kinda outta the question plus my c++ is rusty and would only be suitable for command line apps also I'm betting the source for Google's search bar is closed, further more it's probably in Java, I'm more of a web dev now-a-days... I'd have a better chance with JS. I'll bet you're right though. I'm still gonna leave this open for a day or so though just to see if anything pans out. Thank you for your reply though.

  • I want to remove the yahoo search bar from Firefox and use the google search bar.

I did go to about:config and made the keyword.URL to default (Google). It is not getting affected. Please help me to know how can I set it in Firefox.
I need to remove yahoo search from my Firefox and use the Google search. I did the following steps for the same.
about:config, searched keyword:URL and reset to default.
But the change is not getting affected. Pls help

Work around that I have used (my machine is running Windows XP SP3 might work on other systems as well):
    1) Ensure Firefox is closed, if necessary read this in another browser
    2. Open the Firefox directory on the hard drive (typically: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox)
    3. Go into the 'searchplugins' folder
    4. Delete the file named 'yahoo.xml'
    5. Immediately restart your machine

That did it, although I did have to try it twice. Anyway, it's back now. Thanks, until next time, and there will be a next time

  • "Reload current page/Stop loading current page" seems to be missing from Navigation Bar customization. How do I get it back?

I am loading Firefox on a new computer, and I can't find the Navigation Bar button for "Reload current page/Stop loading current page". Is there any way to get it back as a choice under Navigation Bar customization or to create a new function? CTRL-R used to work for this function, but I'd like to have the button on the Navigation Bar.

View Page Source has been moved to the "Web Developer" sub-menu. You can use any of the following to View Page Source:
    *CTRL+U
*Right-click a blank area of the page and choose "View Page Source"
*Firefox button > Web Developer > View Page Source
*Using the Menu Bar: Tools > Web Developer > Page Source
*ALT+T+W, release ALT key, letter O key

  • My url bar is very small and i cant get it back to its normal size

when i started my computer my browserbar/urlbar and my search bar where very short and i couldnt see what i was doing.

As noted earlier, this magnified/large screen seems to be related to the Zoom settings (Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Zoom).  It can be turned off permanently there or more simply this "feature" can be toggled using a 3-finger double-tap.  Also, a 3-finger drag motion can help navigate when you're in this zoomed mode.  Hope this helps.
