I am missing the file itunes.msi and can't upgrade to 10.5, please advise a fix

Tryin to download latest update for itunes.
get error message that update process not finding the file itunes.msi and therefore the update installation stops.
And I can't uninstall itunes from Control Panel.........as it also needs this file to uninstall.
What to do?

There is a Microsoft fixit for uninstall problems which I haven't tried yet, but it is worth a go;
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
I would be interested to know if it works, otherwise:
This type of problem can usually be fixed with the Microsoft installer cleanup utility.
Unfortunately the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility has been withdrawn by Microsoft because of compatibility issues with Microsoft Office so you will need to find a copy elsewhere – the installer is msicuu2.exe. You need version 3.
Google  msicuu2.exe download
mydigitallife in the above search has a copy of version 3
Check for malware before installing it.
After installing, To run the program  – All Programs>>Windows Install
If you get  permission denied error, Try Run as Administrator – an option if you right click on the program.
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did *not* uninstall, look out for entries that start All Users that are blank entries or have numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Download iTunes if you haven't already done so:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Try installing iTunes.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

If you are getting msi trouble and the FixiT doesn't work, try the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility.

Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
The new version of iTunes doesn't require QuickTime, but according to the blurb some content will not play without it so I have left it in the instructions.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.

  • HT3345 How do I open a password protected excel file created on a PC?  I get a message that the "file is encrypted and can't be opened"

How do I open a password protected excel file created on a PC in numbers 09, on a MacBook Air?  I get a message that the "file is encrypted and can't be opened"

This is actually not true; I support users who are doing this w/ Excel 2011 (v14.2.2+) for Mac and Windows users w/ Excel 2003 & 2007.  Win users are from finance dept, and who have pasword-protected various budget files.  The Mac users are (surprise) "creative" users, who enter pw to unlock and edit these budget files.
These files are shared from a Mac server (running 10.6.8 server), and I do have an erratic problem where all users have read-only access to these pw-protected Excel files.  The manual work-around has been to copy the troublesome file(s) and confirm users have full access again.  I also do a shuffling of filenames, so that the new, working file has original file name.
FYI: the Mac server POSIX and ACL permissions are correct, and don't appear to be source of the problem.
It's easy an SMB file-locking issue or concurrent users trying to edit these files.  I keep reminding them that Excel is not a database!

Unless you have attempted to downgrade to an older version of iTunes this is likely to be a sign of a corrupt library. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

  • I have installed Firefox 4 twice, and each time I get a message that the file is corrupt and can't be opened.

I ordered a download of PagePlus X5 from Serif in the UK. The program is 706 MB. Several times, only 300+ MBs downloaded. The program had .exe but the partial download had .msi. The message that came up was "Setup was unable to find the msi package or patch . . ." Serif suggested I install Firefox as a web browser to see if the program would download. That is what I tried to do, and that is when I got the message that the file was corrupt. Serif is sending me a disk. Is there a disk for Firefox?

How large is your iPhone's storage? 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB? You can go to Settings > General > Usage, and that will tell you how much storage you have used and how much you have left. If the storage is truly almost full, then you would need to either delete files from your iPhone, or sync less files from iTunes to your iPhone.
    Hope this helps!

  • The file "iTunes Library.itl" can not be read because it was created by a new version of iTunes.

so my computer got unplugged and its battery died right as it was finishing an iTunes update. when i restarted it, i got the above message. i re-installed iTunes from the website and that didn't help. i went directly to the mp3 files and tried to open those. no go there either. :frustrating!!!
when the "dialog box" shows up with that message, there is an "OK" button, but there when you click on it, it just closes. there is no prompt or hint at what one can do to remedy this situation. any help?
btw, i have a Dell laptop running WindowsXP with all my iTunes music on a detached hard drive.

I already thanked you but under the other "post". I am ecstatically happy to have my old system back, and will never upgrade anything again .. fear I'm doomed to happy dinausaur-hood.
