Mail has a minimum of "50 recent messages" to download, but i hate having to delete them every time i check for new mail! why doesn't the program remember if you have already downloaded a message, and suppress any subsequent downloads???

you can't, GB is restricted to a single time signature per project
however, the time sig is really more cosmetic, it doesn't affect the way the project plays back, so you could set the project to 2/4 when working on the 2/4 parts, and 3/4 when working on the 3/4 parts

You need to find and delete (move to the Trash) the offline mail cache (.offline cache.) It's a hidden folder (files and folders with a preceding dot are hidden) inside the Mail folder (inside IMAP) in your user library. Since it's hidden, in order to see it run the following command in Terminal in Applications>Utilities. Hit return/enter once you have pasted in the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true ; killall Finder
To reverse this and hide all those hidden files and folders again
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false ; killall Finder
Leave hidden files/folders enabled until you finish emptying the Trash so you know it's gone.

Using Mail in Mac OS X 10.6.2 and moving to Mac for the first time, I have been unable to set up two email addresses on the same account. Entering them, separated by commas, as advised in the Help does not seem to work. I have tried making them both the same password and have tried separating the passwords with a comma but no luck. Unable to set up another account for the second address because it correctly tells me that the account already exists.
Is there a way?

After a comprehensive trial and error session, using a new Guest Account each time to be sure of no contamination from the previous trial, I have finally cracked it!
The problem was logging on to the outgoing server.
Setting up the first account was fairly straightforward but if I allow Mail to do it automatically I am unable to send because Mail has defaulted to 'Authentication Required' when my server does not require it. Setting the account manually without authentication enables send and receive to work OK.
If i try to set up the second account automatically, Mail crashes.
If I set it up manually and choose 'No Authentication', Mail crashes.
If I set it up manually and choose 'Authentication Required' and enter the full email address as the User Name together with password, Mail crashes.
If I set it up manually and choose 'Authentication Required' and enter the first part of the email address together with password, Mail crashes.
However, if I set it up manually and choose 'Authentication Required' and enter the first part of the email address as User Name and no password, Mail accepts it and sets up the account.
At this point the account receives mail but cannot send it.
If I go into the Mail preferences and try to edit the outgoing server details, Mail will not accept no Authentication.
I eventually found that if I uncheck the 'Always Use This Server' box, all account then use the server on the first account, which is correctly set up.
Now I have my four email accounts all able send and receive.
One little concern remains. In Outlook Express I could look at the properties of a received email and see what address it had come from, together with many other details. I haven't found out yet whether this can be done in Mail. I just wonder whether if I reply to some email, it will appear to have come from a different address from the one it was sent to.

New External Drive how do I set it for Time Machine?

I just bought a new 250g firewire to back up my hard drive - I formatted it and it's ok and all but I want to use it to back up my entire hard drive.
I thought I was supposed to make a Disk Image?? but browsing these forums it seems I was supposed to designate it for Time Machine? I didn't know that. Can I still do that? If so what do I do? and how do I do it?

and if anyone else knows and I'm allowed more questions - I really wanted to install Final Cut Studio Pro on the external drive because apparently it ***** up disk space like a --- -well you know ----- - but it says it has to be on my regular drive - does that mean I have to uninstall some programs? can I set other software to work off the external or am I going to have the same problem?
I'm so ******!! I bought the 120 g drive thinking it was enough to run programs off of and use the other for data storage - apparently not!
I'm about 10 gigs short right now and that doesn't even count leaving something for extra space.

No disc image is required. Prepare the drive as follows:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Connect the drive to a Firewire port. Open Time Machine preferences and select the drive as the TM backup drive and turn on TM.
If you use the external drive for backups you should not use it for installing applications or storing other files. It should be used as a dedicated backup drive. If you need additional storage space get another external drive.

This is web service is provided by .net team and im required to take the services of that web service to retrieve some information provided by that.
I can launch the webservice definition thru IE....their they have provide a text box with a Invoke button.
The same data that im sending thru code if invoked thru IE is working fine.
I suspect that the way Im construcint the SOP message is wrong.
Any help in finding out the correctness of the Message in the java code ?

This started with upgrade to FF 10. I've tried switching Tabs options on and off but everything keeps opening in new tabs rather than switching to the link in the open window. This leads to many tabs that I have to chase to get to the page I wanted to open.

Maybe some of the extensions are causing a problem. I suggest you try using
* [[safe Mode]] <-- clikable link for instructions --
* do NOT make changes in the first window,just click on continue
* use only the default firefox theme
* if you continue to have problems; then whilst still in safe mode disable all plugins
It is also worth trying to ensure all extensions are uptodate
* see [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
You may have to try using the reset controls and toolbars option from safe-mode BUT that may loose customisations that you have made.

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For other music you need to get them from where you got them before.
