  • I have the 13" Late 2011 Macbook Pro, What are the best Battery Life saver/increaser Techniques?

    Specs-
    2.4 Ghz Intel Core i5
    4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    intel HD 3000 384 MB
    How can I prevent My battery from degrading or atleast make the degrading slower
    Can Ya tell me the steps or things to do?
    I use my Mac a lot, like 6-15 hours everyday.
    Someone told me I should keep it plugged with decharging it fully once a week.
    is it true?
    Can anything else be done?

    You can use it on battery almost full time.  It will slowly discharge to about 95% on AC, but then recharge after dropping below 95%.  This is to save the use of the recharge circuits.
    You should use it on battery only down to 40% at least once per month.  Running it to dead will shorten battery life, not help.
    The battery is rated to 1000 cycles.  Two recharges from 50% to full is 1 cycle, 3 recharges from 33% to 100% is 1 cycle, etc ...
    If you plan to store it unused for 3 months, discharge the batery to 50%, then remove from the MBP to preent the battery going down to 0.

  • HT4906 my iPhoto i can't open it on my macbook pro what is the problem?

    my iphoto i can't open it on my macbook pro what is the problem?

    There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
    Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Have been using 3.6 for a j d edwards programme new computer is w8 what is the best compatable d/load

    have been using 3.6 for a j d edwards programme new computer is w8 what is the best compatable d/load have loaded latest version however when jd Edwards loads when each section within jd Edwards is opened blue circle saying launching application but that is as far as I can get . Had this problem with xp but wasa ble to dload older version of fire fox but it appears that these olderr versions are no use with windows 8

    Windows 8 Professional supports virtual machines, so you could install Windows XP in a VM and then use that to host an older version of Firefox. This does not appear to be minor undertaking: [http://4sysops.com/archives/windows-8-xp-mode-part-1-hyper-v/ Windows 8 “XP Mode” – Part 1: Hyper-V - 4sysops].
    Can you run your JD Edwards app in IE10 in compatibility mode? If so, that's probably the simplest workaround. You still can use Firefox for other browsing.

  • I want to sell my old macbook air, what is the best way to get my files and programs off of it?

    I am going to sell my macbook air (2011) as I am replacing it with a macbook pro retina. I want to remove my files and programs from it before I sell it. What is the best way to go about this?

    1) Perform a Time Machine or Cloned image backup of your system.
    2) Test the Clone tomake sure it works, by booting to it (using the option key).
    3) Boot to the Recovery Partition, then perform an erasure, followed by a reinstallation of the OS.
    4) Shut off the Mac, after instllation and before the reboot. This will permit the next user to experience a "fresh out of the box" experience.
    5) Use the Time Machine or Cloned image to migrate your apps, users & files to your new system, using SETUP ASSISTANT. Do not use Migration Assistant.

  • What is the best Youtube video converter for Final Cut Pro?

    I want to keep the quality of the video and import into Final Cut Pro to edit. What is the best way to get the video in the correct format?

    I've used FastestTube
    http://fastesttube.kwizzu.com/
    usually this allows you to download the files as MP4 files in either 360p or 720p, or as FLV files
    I would download as 720p MP4 & convert in compressor to prores, etc for FCP.

  • (New to C# here) What is the best way to return false in a function if it cannot be executed successfully?

    In Javascript or PHP you can have a function that could return, for example, a string in case of success and false in case of failure.
    I've noticed (in the few days I've been learning C#) that you need to define a type of value that the function will return, so you need to return that type of value but in case of failure you can't return false.
    What is the best way to achieve this behavior and is there an example I can see?
    Thank you in advance,
    Juan

    Juan, be aware that returning null won't work with value types, such as an int, which can't be null. You'd have to use a nullable value type. A nullable int would be declared with a "?", such as:
    int? someOtherFunction(int param)
    if(something goes great)
    return param * 42;
    return null;
    And you have to use it like this:
    int? result = someOtherFunction(666);
    if (result != null) // you can also use result.HasValue
    // it worked, do something with the result
    // if you're doing math with the result, no problem
    int x = result * 2;
    // but if you're assigning it to another an int, you need to use this syntax
    int y = result.Value;
    Before nullable value types came along, for a method that returned an int, I'd use a value of something that wouldn't normally be returned by that method to indicate failure, such as a -1.
    ~~Bonnie DeWitt [C# MVP]
    That's something very very important to keep in mind. Can save you from a lot of headaches!
    So if you have an int function and it might return NULL, if you are doing Math with the return value you can use it directly, but if you're assigning it to another variable you have to use .Value?
    Thanks

  • To video editors: What's the best software video encoder?

    I'm relatively new to the encoding world, outside of .m2v for DVD.  I have a Mac Pro Dual Quad-Core 2.4 Ghz Intel Xeon system with 14 GB of RAM and running OS X 10.7.2.  I have the latest version of Final Cut Studio, which includes Final Cut Pro 7 and Compressor.  I also have Adobe Media Encoder, but upon testing, I was (ironically) flabbergasted by the fact that Adobe's encoding software doesn't come with support for .avi output.  For that reason, it's difficult to trust it.  I love what Compressor has to offer, and its encoding quality is more than satisfactory for any and all Mac-based file types, but obviously, the format limitations outside of the Apple realm present a problem in terms of the variety I can offer a client.  I would like to have the flexibility of .flv, .wmv, .avi, etc.
    Again, I love the QuickTime options of Compressor.  I have read that Flip4Mac has add-ons for the formats which I listed above, but I've never used that software for this kind of workflow.  I also have some experience with Sorenson Squeeze, but that was mainly on an Avid platform, and there were various frame size/crop issues with encoding which forced me as a user to jump through MANY hoops (none of those hoops are an issue in Compressor, but, again, file types are limited) in order to achieve my encoding goals.  However, Sorenson does offer support for every imaginable file type in its $599 Pro edition of the software.  I'd rather not spend that much just for an encoder if unnecessary, but I honestly have no real frame of reference in terms of cost-to-"output variety" ratio.
    So, to the many who are much more educated and experienced than I am, I ask, in your opinion as professionals...what's the best software encoder?  Is it one of the three I have already mentioned, or is it another software with which I am not yet familiar?  I am open to any and all suggestions and opinions.  At this point, I am mostly dealing with web delivery, whether it be streaming or downloadable file types, and DVD/Blu-Ray encoding for disc burn.  However, as I'm sure you understand, you never know what kind of project will come your way, or what kind of file type and/or size a client will require on any given day.  I'm really just trying to get an education on encoding in general so I can stay somewhat ahead of the curve, and be able to deliver as many different file types as possible so I never have to tell a client, "No, I can't do that."
    Thoughts?

    Sorry that you are not getting help.
    I would have said that there are some excellent people I see that hang out in the forums for Final Cut etc that would.
    I look more at hardware aspect and had you asked I would have recommend against the 2.4GHz in favor of 6-core 3.33 or 2.93 or something. Giving up GHz for more cores or something never works out.
    Then I would have stayed with 10.6.8 (maybe keep Lion handy for testing only).
    Setup a good storage subsystem, 6 x 4GB (or 3 x 8GB when using single cpu).

    I had been using isquint but it was discontinued. And, I understand that the code of isquint & visualhub has been released. The new snow leopard compatible converters(that I know) that came out of that code are redux encoder & videomonkey.
    What is the best current freeware video converter?

    "Best" is fairly subjective... I use MPEGstreamclip
