How do I play a cd on my MBA using the super drive on my old Macbook? The Macbook is set to share cds and dvds, but when I go to the remote disc on my MBA and click on my Macbook, I get this message: the operation can't be completed because the original item for "Audio CD" can't be found"

You can't play copywrited protected content over Remote disc. It's blocked.

I don't have the need to make many DVDs. I was doing this for someone who's grandfather, a D-Day veteran was featured in one of the videos for the website of the newspaper where I work. It turns out that the DVD looks right on the widescreen TV, but not on my monitors. I could not find an answer to something that apparently was not a problem in the first place. I learned a lot from the various discussions and will be reading more of them, more often in the future.

Thank you Meta, but I could not get the calendar and contact sync with Gmail to work. Apple support already suggested to use Google or a Windows PC. Maybe I should actually reset and try my old Windows PC. Seriously, ... can this be the solution after a Mac OS update for pure Apple users?

Try a couple of basic troubleshooting steps that can apply to any iPad issue.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the mail app and restart. In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
None of these things may work, but without more specific information, they are a good place to start.

There is another discussion of this problem under "can't print cd jewel case inserts"--about 20 people on that page have the same problem.--I have a "band-aid" fix for anyone is in a hurry. When you go to print, choose the option "large playlist" (I think it is the last option). You can then print at least the songs that are on the playlist. Then, you can print a mosaic copy to get the album art work. Then you get out the scotch tape & tape them together! This is UNACCEPTABLE but it will do in a pinch. Someone on the other page suggests we all write in "itunes" feedback & complain.

VLC is a good choice. While I don't know if it will play your files, Perian is a helper app for Quicktime which allows you to play a lot of things in the Quicktime Player.
There is also Flip4Mac which allows you to play windows media files in Quicktime.
Finally, note that the extension on a video file doesn't really tell you what you need to play it. The .avi, .mpg, etc. is only the wrapper around the actual video. The video is encoded by some means and needs to be decoded. The video inside the .avi can be encoded in one of many different schemes.
VLC, Perian, Flip4Mac, and many others, are all able to decode various flavors of encoding. Having all of those in your toolbox will help to allow you to play most of the things you'll find.

Go into your email account's settings : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , tap on the account on the right-hand side, go into Account, then SMTP (under Outgoing Mail Server) and try filling in your email account name and password (they might show as 'optional' at the moment) and see if that helps

As above- am using a MacBook pro 13-inch running os Lion, latest version. But mail is not sending, it will recieve. I get various messages: attempt to read data from the server failed. Connection timed out on Port. What do I do?

To create a screen shot just use Shift-Command-4 and you'll get a crosshair that you can drag across the portion of the screen that you want to capture. Alternately, you can use Shift-Command-3 to take a shot of your full screen and then use an image editor to crop just what you want to post (using the little camera icon in the composing area).

I'm a bit at a loss. I don't use Mail - I've been using Entourage and, more recently, Outlook from Microsoft for over ten years. Nary a problem with POP or IMAP. Some people also like Mozilla Thunderbird - it's free and it's worth a download just to see if you can set up a useable account with it.
Post a screen shot of your settings and we'll go from there.
