I am no longer receiving the SD version of video from itunes??

Not sure what changed, but I am no longer receiving the SD version of a video download from iTunes, but the HD version, which doesn't work on my iPhone 3G.  Does anyone know what I might have done to create this change (the change has occurred in just the last couple weeks with shows that have been auto-downloading through the season).  Either I accidently changed a setting.  Or is there some way I can convert it to SD?  iTunes will not allow me to 'create iPhone version" under Advanced options.  Any suggestions or has anyone else run into this issue?

I had the same problems with Sherlock BBC (2nd season) where only the HD files were being downloaded.
I am not 100% sure of what I did (when I solved it) but I would suggest this:
1- Go to your iTunes and click on Purchased.
2- Click on TV shows or Movies, depending on what you are trying to get.
3- From the top right, select "Not on this computer".
If you have downloaded HD files and the SD files did not download, it should say something appropriate (personally now that I did get the SD files, it says "all of your standard definition episodes have been downloaded").
I remember ticking off the download HD when available but I don't know if you really need to tick this off to ensure the SD file downloads...
Anyway, you might want to try it. Hopefully it will work.
P.-S. If push comes to shove, you can select that only standard definition videos play on your iphone. That will take a lot less space and the conversion will be done automatically by iTunes when syncing.
