I am not able to access certain websites

I am not able to access certain websites (Coursera, Couchtuner, shortened URLs) on Safari or Firefox although I am able to access them on Chrome. I am able to access all websites through other Windows computer or my iPhone on the same wi fi network. TIA

What happens when you try? Could you post a link to one of the ones you can't access?

  • I am on iphone 4, iOS7.0.4, not able to access certain websites.

The weird thing is I could yesterday morning. Now I am unable to. I can access all those sites from my laptop (not a Mac). Tried out all the suggestions I found here as well but to no avail.
    1. Settings > Wi-fi > selected my wifi and Forgot this Network.
    2. Reboot my phone my pressing my home button and sleep button.
    3. Went back to Settings > Wi-fi > reselected my Home wifi > re-entered the passcode.
    4. Still could not access certain websites (for instance this!) and apps like Whatsapp, Viber and certain websites on Safari.

  • Not able to access certain websites: "connection refused"

    This is a repost of:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2035299&tstart=0
I thought I had been able to resolve the problem, but it turns out that I haven't.
When I try to load certain websites on my MacBook Pro I get a page load error. In Firefox this error states that "The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.whatever.com"; in Safari, "Safari can’t open the page “http://www.whatever.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “www.whatever.com”.
This is specific to my MacBook Pro. If I use my girlfriend's Macbook or my iPhone on the same network to access the same sites, the sites load as usual.
Also, if I perform a Safe Boot on my MacBook Pro I am able to access the sites.
Any tips on how I can resolve this?

Since you can connect with a Safe Boot, you'll have to resolve the conflict within the original account when 3rd-party stuff's running. Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. Report back.

  • Updated latest platform SE 7 U51 10.51.2.13 bit not able to open certain website.

    Hi,
I have updated my Java with latest version SE 7 U51 10.51.2.13 bit not able to open certain website.
Please let me know now what to do so that I can open the website - www.federalbank.com.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Akansha.

    Hi!
Thanks for getting in touch with us here at Mozilla Support. I'll do the best I can to assist you.
    Can you post a screenshot?
Please see [[How do I create a screenshot of my problem?]]
Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the '''Browse...''' button below the ''Post your reply'' box. This will help us to visualize the problem.
Upon visiting the site, I can see that there is just a simple page with Federalbank.com at the top and no links. It's a unused website apparently. I don't understand why it would need Java to run anything from there since there is nothing on there. Is this your site?

  • Not able to access a website after Mountain Lion Update

After I downloaded Mountain Lion to my computer I am not able to access a website I had bookmarked because it says the certificate is expired or something like that and the option to open it up or do anythingn to correct it is grayed out, does anyone know of a fix for this?  And it says it wont let me access it anymore for some reason.  Any help would be appreciated.

I tried both of those and when it says this site is trying to access your computer there is an accept and a deny box and the accept box is grayed out and the deny box is the only one you can click on, is there anything else I can try?  Ive tried to get that certificate to be accepted always and entered it but it just wont let me click on the accept box, it is still grayed out, the only one I can click on is the deny box and clicking on it is the only way to get the whole box off of my screen.  Again, any help would be appreciated

  • Not able to access some websites

I have not been able to access a few websites on my Macbook. I initially thought that it was my wireless router (D-Link DIR 655) and connected my Macbook to the cable modem but still I couldn't access the website. So I figured it must be my ISP. But then my roommate who has a Gateway notebook with
Win XP was able to get onto that website. So it surely is not my ISP or my router. I am at a loss here and would really appreciate if someone could help me with this niggling problem. Thanks in advance.

Some websites just don't work properly with Safari. I can always access the website's home page, but some links don't work. Sometimes a different browser fixes the problem (I use Camino), but sometimes the only answer is to re-boot in XP.
I've always had intermittent problems with eBay - random "page not found" errors. My company car leasing site works until I try and sign in. My credit card supplier's site won't allow me to print a statement.
Seems to be sloppy programming by the site designers. They don't care that they are alienating a small percentage of potential customers.

  • Not able to access Google websites

For the past 2 days I have not been able to access Google or my Gmail account. I have tried in both Safari and IE. I usually use Safari and have had no problems in the past with Google. I don't know if the Google site is having problems or if it is my computer. Can anyone help me out?

  • Devices no longer able to access certain websites (usually involving https)

    Hello,
Starting around 21 Feb a bunch of sites started working really funky.  On Netflix I cannot login.  On flickr I can't post to group forums and other little functionality is broken.  I can't sign into Facebook.  I can't sign into Verizon.com sites (more on how I'm writing this in a second)  The rest of the non-interactive internet works perfectly fine so it's not a DNS issue.
So, there is one computer on which everything is working fine (that's how I got here to post) - otherwise I'd just think it was a network issue.  All the rest of my four computers do not work.  Also, my BluRay player and Roku box no longer can connect to Netflix.
Since one computer works fine you might be thinking - "oh, he changed something on those others".  Actually, nope.  I even tested on a computer I hadn't used since December and that was working back then, but now cannot access those same sites.  I even booted into a live CD of Fedora Linux - so it's completely clean, DHCP - can't log into Netflix.  Also, I've tried both Firefox and Chrome - both of which work on the computer that is OK.
I ran wireshark on one of the affected computers - basically it's dropping packets on TLS sites.  Just over and over and over again - all I see is TCP Retransmission.  Obviously can't run wireshark on my BluRay player or Roku
First I checked all my settings, rebooted the computers, etc.  Eventually, I called tech support.  Well, first I chatted with tech support.  He had me run ipconfig /flushdns and he had me reset my modem - including pushing the little button on the back with a pen.  Confirmed that everything reset because I lost all my wireless settings.  After the modem reboot I lost him (as I expected would happen, despite him telling me it wouldn't).  Then I got on phone tech support.  Again, they had me check DNS and crap like that.  I know it can't be that stuff because how would I even do ipconfig /flushdns on my bluray player?
On my own, I've tried using Google's DNS servers at 8.8.8.8 as well as using the two nameservers I see in my router's webpage.  (The one at 192.168.1.1)
So what could it possibly be?  A broken router?  I assume if something'd changed at the neighbrhood level, they'd be getting tech suport calls up the wazoo, so it's probably just me?  I'm really annoyed because of the inconsistency - why does one computer work and none of my other devices?  The PS3 was on the fritz around the same time (kept complaining about DNS issues), but it "got better".
I doubt it's something I've configured on my router since I rebooted it and cleared the settings.  The working computer is on static IP address, but so is every other device here.  Also, the liveCD of Linux was DHCP.  I know people like to come on forums and swear down and up that they haven't changed anything and then it turns out they did a system upgrade or changed something they thought was insignificant - but I literally have touched nothing.  I didn't even realize at first because the wife is the heavy user of the Roku and BluRay player.  And she knows well enough not to touch anything because she hates interruption in service.  (And I double-checked the settings anyway) ANYWAY - the 2 months untouched computer and the liveCD Linux are proof that it's nothing that's changed.
Anyway, it's been a week now since everything broke.  And I when I got off the phone with tech support they said they put in some kind of ticket for me.  I can't find that on the Verizon website to check the status.
So I was hoping I could get this problem solved somehow by posting on here.  The guys you get when you call tech support are clearly following a script and have no clue what's going on.  I've loved FiOS ever since I moved into my new house (couldn't get it in my apartment) and I really hate Comcast, but as of right now, my Internet connection is pretty useless.  I can't use my Netflix streaming devices (save the one PS3), and the reason we have more than one computer is so that we can do stuff no matter what computer we're on.  So if I want to manage my Netflix queue, I shouldn't have to go to the one computer in the house that can get to Netflix.
Here's hoping for some help!  Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

very wierd scenario.  just a few things,  might not be what you're looking for in the way of an answer, but if you could try it on one of the affected machines, and report back to homebase, it could help give us all a good starting point.
In IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, then the Advanced tab, then make sure "Use SSL 2.0" and "Use SSL 3.0" are checked under Security.
Also try compatibility mode.  In IE, go to Tools, compatibility view settings.
and as odd as it sounds, it could be a corrupt windows firewall.  try this, it's a tool to repair WMI & The Windows Firewall. http://www.pcwintech.com/shanes-toolbox)  (last download on the page)
I know the blu ray and the roku player throw a monkey wrench into the above, so I am not addressing those yet.  we can and will but I am focusing on the pc's first just to get on good ground,

  • Unable to access certain websites and game servers when using E1500

I've been having a strange intermitent problem with my E1500 wireless router.  When we first bought and installed it everything was working well with no known problems.  After several months no one using the router was able to access certain websites as well as a game server that we play on.  No one had made any changes to the router settings and I assumed at first that it was an ISP problem.  After talking with our ISP tech support they finally suggested plugging my PC directly into the modem rather then the router.  I did and found that the websites and servers that previously wouldn't connect while using the router were now reachable.  As I said not myself or anyone else had made any changes to the router settings since installation.  I decided that just in case someone unauthorized had made changes to simply revert the router to factory settings and reinstall the software.  After doing this I found that I could again reach the websites and servers that I previously could not.  So time went on with no problems until a few months later when the same websites and servers were again unreachable by anyone on our router.  I again reset the router to factory settings and changed passwords as a precaution, but this time the websites and servers were unreachable even though I had just reset the router.  I'm a little confounded as to what could possibly be causing this.  I have had family and friends who live elsewhere use the websites and servers during all of my troubles, so I'm certain that they were not simply down.  I'd greatly appreciate any and all help.
A few of the places that are unreachable to me are as follows:
    http://wiki.project1999.org
    http://www.project1999.org
    http://chaoslife.findchaos.com

Perhaps, you could flash or update the firmware to the latest. Reset and reconfigure the router. You can download firmware here http://support.linksys.com/en-us/support/routers/E1500.

  • Cannot access certain websites?

I have troubling accessing certain websites on my Mac. I started using them about 4 days ago and it was all fine until yesterday I try to open them and they don't work. I know I didn't change anything with my wi-fi or anything like that. My wi-fi works just fine because my other sites with other stuff work fine.  I asked my frined if he could access them from his computer and it works for him. I've tried different browsers such as safari, chrome, firefox but they all give me the same message  "the connection was reset". I can access the websites through proxywebrowsing. com, but I can't use certain features
At this point I don't know what to do. I've tried to google for a solution but they all were confusing to me and just didn't work. I think from what I undnerstand i have to change something in my network settings, but how and what am I supposed to do there? I am a newby when it comes to fixing network, so if you have a suggestion in trying to change something please tell me how to get there. Please Help. Thanks!

Thanks for helping me figure out how to turn off ipv6 on Mountain Lion, but it doesn't change anything. I don't know like I've stated in my description I was able to access the site just 2 days ago and I didn't change anything. Also why can I access the site from sites like proxybrowsing.com but not my own web browser,
Sorry, I have never had to fix a problem like this, so I am obviously really new and not understanding.

  • HT1338 unable to access certain websites

Unable to access certain websites using safari browser.  any ideas!!!!

One of the first things you want to try is if you can get to these same sites on TMG itself. Create an Access rule that allows HTTP and HTTPS from Localhost (TMGs network adapter) to Anywhere (it's under Computer Sets). Apply it and then make sure that IE
is not set to use anything for a proxy. Clear all the boxes. Can you browse these sites? If not then your proxy clients will not be able to. Open a command prompt and use nslookup to see if TMG is resolving the sites. Remember that proxy clients rely on TMG
to do the name resolution for them. If it is not working then you will have a problem.

    Hi, I'm having problems accessing certain websites. Certain websites are giving me the following error (in Firefox);
    "Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."
I get similar errors in the other browsers. I tried connecting to them via a proxy and it works. I also asked a friend to try and they work for him on Virgin, so definitely seems to be a problem with my connection.
I also got that error intermittently while browsing the forum here. One of the websites I can't access is mine, so it's getting annoying not being able to do stuff I usually do.
I have turned off/unplugged my home hub, but that didn't help.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Not able to access DB on VM after getting Reserved IP

    Hi,
I have Reserved an Public Virtual IP for my VM 23.102.xxx.xxx  The OS WIN server 2012 R2 and and has SQL server 2012 running on it.
    Problem:
    1. I'm not able to access the DB or connect to the server form outside( from my local machine). I was able to connect when the Public Virtual IP wasn't reserved.
    2. As my website is hosted on the same VM, I use the Internal IP address as the Binding IP address, however I recently noticed that the Internal IP address has changed and my website was down.
    3. How do I prevent the Internal IP address from changing. So that I don't have to reset my webconfig and binding IP address frequently?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your question.
    1. How did you connect to the VM? I recommend you to use DNS name of the cloud service(xxx.cloudapp.net) with the public port for RDP to connect to see if the issue persists.
    2. In general, if you shut down an Azure VM to stopped (deallocated) status, the resources for the VM will be released and the internal IP address may be changed.
    3. You can assign a static internal IP address to an existing VM if it is in a virtual network. For more detailed information, please refer to the link below:
Configure a Static Internal IP Address for a VM

The characters change depending on the website. I've tried disabling all extensions and plugins, reinstalling firefox and reinstalling java to no avail. The issue seems to be isolated to firefox, chrome is able to display the webpages without a problem. The problem occures following a malware in infection which would redirect goolgle searches in firefox. It was dealt with using Malwarebytes Anti-malware and by removing some entries from C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.

    Hi,
I tried everything above but to no avail. Windows firewall seemed to be allowing Firefox through without it actually being in the exception list. However, I did remove Firefox but this time removing all profile data too. Reinstalling Firefox seemed to make the websites work. However I then restored my bookmarks, and suddenly the websites stopped functioning again, displaying the random string of characters. Could this be an issue with my bookmarks?

I have had an ongoing issue where I am unable to access certain websites on my BT broadband connection.
    Example sites include:

    Can anyone help me here?
