Why is the "Lock" icon not showing when I am on a secured site?

Site identity is fine; it confirms I am where I think I am. The padlock is a global standard for a secure connection. Please bring it back.

I checked the home page assignment in preferences and found that the errant site had been appended to the normal (google) home page address. Incidentally, I had basically solve the problem within a session by erasing all history related to bbc. Without your fix I would been back to the same error next time I started Firefox from scratch. Given that you are logged in as that user, and most likely the admin user of the Mac, then it makes sense that you can change your own settings. If you were logged in as a different user, then you would not have access to change the settings for this admin account.

That's a "resize" arrow. Try relaunching Finder (Cmd+Opt+Esc) or >Force Quit

Hey, my moms ipod nano won`t sync to her computer. Now it has a lock icon in the top left corner and i can`t get it to go away. Can anyone help me?

I assume you have made sure the hold switch along the top of the Nano is set to Off?
If none of the 5 R's are able to resolve the issue, it's likely a hardware issue, meaning you'll need to have the iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party service.

When I would order items on line, I would see this lock icon at the bottom right hand corner of the window. I thought it meant the site was secure. Now I just see the fox head icon. I don't know if it's secure. Is it?
Nothing is wrong with firefox, but I don't know if this feature has been removed or moved elsewhere. It provided some sense of comfort seeing the lock icon on sites where I was ordering items.

In Firefox 4 and later you no longer have the Status bar that showed the padlock in previous Firefox versions.<br />
The padlock only shows that there is a secure connection and doesn't guarantee that you are connected to the right server.<br />
So you might still be connected to the wrong server if you make a typo in the URL and someone has claimed that mistyped URL.<br />
The functionality of the padlock has been replaced by the [[Site Identity Button]] on the left end of the location bar.<br />

The lock icon on my sons nano is on the screen and I don't know how it got there. I can't do anything with the nano. I have reset it to the factory settings but still nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks

Theres two locks on the nano, firstly the hold button on the top, its slides accross.
Secondly theres a screen lock that uses a four didgit pin code but that shouldnt be set withought you doing it.
Theres a master reset you can do on your ipod, slide the hold on top of the nano to lock then back again, then press in the menu and center button till the apple icon apears.
Theres a small booklet that comes with the nano explaining it.

I attached an external drive to my macbook pro for backup purposes. I found that the device is 'read only' for me. I read that I could change permissions by selecting 'get info' for a item and clicking the lock icon to submit my password. The lock icon is not displayed on any 'info' window for any file on my macbook, much less the attached drive. I am the only user and administrator as far as I know. How can I tell? The 'get info' window has no lock and under sharing and permissions, on says 'you can only read'. I did a get info on the Macintosh HD and it had a lock on it but said I could only read, for what that it worth.
