I am planning to purchase an ipad2(with 3G)  in US. Which version should I purchase (AT&T or Verizon)? Will thye be unlocked?
Can I use them in New Zealand?
Kannan

If you want to be able to use the iPad with local micro-sims when you back to New Zealand then you need the AT&T version - the Verizon model is CDMA based and doesn't use sim cards. The AT&T iPad is not locked to them.

Get the AT&T version. The verizon is CDMA, which doesn't work in other countries while the AT&T version uses SIM cards, so you can use it with other networks.

My MacBook purchased in May 2009 has OSX version 10.5.8  What version should I purchase to upgrade?

    Start with Snow Leopard:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Which mac should i purchase...please help!!!!! Its my first mac!

Im in a dilema...I solely want to produce music with Ableton and I will be using Final Cut Pro extensively...im debating on which MAC system to purchase....Im highly interested in the new macbook but im not sure if the laptop will sustain the tasks I want to do...maybe a macbook pro or powerbook? or should i just skip the laptop idea and get an imac or desktop mac! Please help?

any mac would work fine using ableton live, but if you're going to be doing final cut work, you're going to need more graphics power. if you need a portable, the macbook pro should do you fine. a powerbook will work, but with final cut the macbook pro is literally at least 4 or 5 times as fast. if you don't need a portable, either the 20" or 24" imac will work fine, the smaller one doesn't have dedicated graphics, so it won't do. if you are working with serious, professional media or HD media in final cut, the mac pro is the only way to go.

  • If java6update29 is incompatable with the current firefox, which version do I need and how do I get it?

I have the current version of firefox. When I checked my plug-ins on firefox it said Java was outdated. So I updated it and now firefox has disabled it because it is not compatible. So do I now have to take off this version Of java? which version do I need and where do I get it?

Firefox automatically disables only Java Console; see info below on Java Console
    See the following article
    *https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Add-ons%20are%20disabled%20after%20updating%20Firefox
    '''<u>Java Console</u>'''<br />
Unless you do Java programming/development or debug Java applets on web pages, you do not need Java Console. Java update will install a new Java Console with each update. Removing the Java Console extensions has no effect on the functioning of Java for web browsing. You can see, '''''but not remove''''', the Java Console extensions in Add-ons > Extensions. Java Console extensions can be safely removed '''''manually''''' by following the instructions in this article:

  • Which Book Should I Purchase

    Hi Everyone,
I recently picked up FCE HD 3.0. Being a complete newbie, I would like to elicit an opinion or two from this discussion board as to which books or DVDs would best be suited for my situation. I have been using Logic Pro 7 for two years and am pretty familiar with more complex software programs. I am thinking about ordering Mr. Wolfsky's Final Cut Express Editing workshop manual/DVD. http://www.fcpbook.com/FCE%20Editing%20Workshop.html.
I could not figure out which version (2.0, 3.0 etc.) this book covers. Does the info pertain to my version of FCE HD?
I check out this board all the time and have picked up a lot of useful tips. Keep up the good work!
    Thank you, J

The book on your hotlink is for the original FCE and is not suitable.
    Look at these links:-
    http://www.fcpbook.com/Home.html
    http://www.fcpbook.com/FCE2%20Editing%20Workshop.html
FCE 2 is the one you want. Tom did not write a new book for FCE 3 HD because they are almost identical except for the ability to edit HDV, which few if any use.
I can confirm that it is the best book I have read (out of four) and most folk on this forum would agree.

  • If i purchase the ipad2 with wifi will it work with aircard?

Trying to figure out the best way to get service anywhere on my iPad2 or laptop.

What do you mean by "aircard". If you mean a device that plugs into a USB port, not, an iPad will not work with it. "MiFi" or personal hotspot devices work very well, and, depending on your carrier, you can get ones that also run on 4G, thus giving you a faster connection than a 3G iPad would support. They can also be used by mulitple devices at once.
If you have a phone such as an iPhone or Android device and your carrier supports it, you can also use your phone as a personal hotspot device. Contact your carrier for pricing.

  • Still have the "Created with Adobe premiere .. trial versions" even after purchasing premiere E 12

I had decided to use the trial version of PE 12 to see if I'd like it before buying it.  I used it on a previous project that I had started with a previous version of PE (version 9).  After few days, I decided to buy it.
I did, entered the serial number, signed in etc... Now I still have this "Created with Adobe Premiere ...trial version" banner all over the images and video clips?  You'd think that Adobe woulld automatically remove this now that I purchased the the program.
Anyone can help me with this?
    Thanks.

    LGT
When you say that you still have the Adobe watermark on your images and video clips, are you specifically talking about those images and video clips within a given project (project.prel file) OR are you referring to exports from the tryout product (file saved to hard drive or burn to disc)?
The Adobe watermark cannot be removed from an export of the Premiere Elements tryout. It can be removed from a project.prel file created in the tryout version. I have found it is an automatic process although some have reported the classical fix worked for them, that being, deleting the rendered files. If you were dealing with your issue at a project.prel level, did that deletion of the rendered files work for you?
If not, this brings up a possibily interesting twist in this FAQ since you are working with a project.prel created in another version before it was opened in Premiere Elements 12. I have always looked at a project.prel created in the tryout not one created in another version and opened in the later version.
We will be looking forward to your results.
    a. Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace Timeline Menu/Delete rendered files
    or
    b. Going to the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder and deleting the rendered files there.

  • Which iPad should I purchase? Ipad air 1 or 2?

Hey guys! I'm wanting to purchase a iPad for school next year (uni), and am debating over which iPad Air version to purchase. I'd like an iPad mainly to do my school work (type notes, look at pdfs, highlight textbook pages, etc), as well as browse the internet, use apps (like facebook, twitter, youtube, email etc) and watch movies. I originally was going to purchase the air 2, but after browsing a few forums, I noticed quite a few people complaining about it (vibration issues, screen distortion, battery, etc). Considering the price, I'm now a bit hesitant in purchasing it.
Which I guess leads me to the iPad air 1. From what I understand, it seems to do the same job as the iPad air 2, but just without those issues (and for a cheaper price!)? I noticed that a few people were talking about safari reloading, but I don't use more than 2-3 tabs at a time generally, so I would assume that wouldn't be an issue? My only problem is that I'm worried it might be too slow compared to the iPad air 2's chip and ram, and is already too 'outdated'.
I'm really hoping whatever iPad I purchase will last me at least a good 2-3 years (I know that might be asking too much!) and will be of good quality; I know products are always bound to have flaws, etc, but I'm hoping to pick the one of with the least amount, and something that will last me.
I guess my question is what everyone else's experiences have been with their air 2 so far? Do you like it, prefer it over the air 1, prefer the build quality, don't like it, waste of money, etc.
I've never owned an iPad, but currently have a nexus 7 tablet that I'm hoping to replace. I found the nexus too small when writing notes and didn't really like using keyboard folios with it; which is why I don't really want to purchase any iPad Minis.
    Any help is appreciated!
edit- I apologise if this is in the wrong place!

The biggest issue between the 1 and 2 is that all devices eventually age out of software updates. For example the iPad 1 maxed out at iOS 5.1.1, only the Touch 5 was eligible for iOS8 and I think only iPhones 4+ could get iOS8. So eventually, if you get a 1 you may face maxing out of the iOS updates before the two.
That said, even if your device maxes out it'll still run just fine as it is. You may just face issues with future apps....so say my iPad maxes out in December. In February a really cool game comes out and I want it... but wait, it's for the newer iOS and won't install on mine. If you're aware of the issue and accept the issue, there's no reason you can have a fully functioning older device.
And if the 1 is more stable than the 2, even better. I've been very lucky with my iPad 2 to have it be a very stable and dependable model while later models do seem to have had issues.

  • SQL Server Express compatibility with Windows 8.1 - Which version(s) are compatible?

We have purchased a new computer that has Win 8.1 Pro. We are migrating an application from a Win 7 Pro machine we are currently successfully using (the vendor migrates it for us) and they have said that the application will require the installation of SQL
Server 2008 Express (which we do have on our Win 7 machine).
In looking at the requirements for SQL Server 2008 Express (on the download page for it), it does not mention it being compatible with Win 8.1
In addition, Installation Instructions  says that it requires:
     Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
     Windows Installer 4.5.
     Windows PowerShell 1.0
I see that 3.5 is already listed as a program feature of Win8.1 and I've enabled it. Do I need to install SP1? I downloaded it, and launched it, and nothing happened.
I also looked at the Windows Installer 4.5 download page, and it's not clear if that is compatible with 8.1. Do I need to download and install it?
Power Shell 2.0 is already installed. I assume that will be backwards compatible with PowerShell 1.0; is that correct?
I saw another question about SQL Server Express Compatibility with Win 8.1 (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/038ec00e-4fc1-41ba-9fdc-21c022aad67e/action?threadDisplayName=sql-server-express-compatibility-with-windows-81) and the response
said that SQL Server Express 2012 will work, but the link contained in the answer led to a page for SQL Server Express 2014.
My vendor has told me that SQL SERver Express 2012 will be backwards compatible with their product. But they said that I would first have to install 2008 first. Is that correct for Win 8.1?
    So, the ultimate questions are:
    1. What is the link for Sql Server 2012 Express for Win 8.1?
    2. Will the SQL Server 2012 Express download require prior install of the 2008 version
    3. What other component requirements are required for SQL Server 2012 Express, and how can I determine if they have already been installed. (This is a brand new computer with a clean Win8.1 Install).
    4. Finally, can we use the 2014 version of SQL Server Express for Win 8.1? If so, questions 1, 2 and 3 apply, too.
Thanks for your help on this!! HIGH ANXIETY.

    Hello,
The following article provides which updates are required to make SQL Server versions compatible with Windows 8 or 8.1:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562/en-us
    1. You can use the product updates feature on SQL Server 2012 to make it compatible with Window 8.1. Apply SP1 as described on the following
    article:
    http://www.sqlcoffee.com/SQLServer2012_0008.htm
    2. No.
    3. Download and install .NET Framework 4.0 and enable .NET Framework 3.5. For more information:

  • Which laptop should I purchase?

I'm looking to find a laptop that would suit my needs, unfortunately I'm not to computer hardware savy. I'm looking to buy a laptop in the $400-800 range for not only college but fun as well. I've been through multiple classed explaining flash and after effects. Anyways I'm looking for a laptop that can give me a lot of space while not slowing due to flash or after effects. I use flash the most and retain about 20gb worth of creations on my desktop. Adobe software that would be installed will be Flash, After Effects, and Photoshop not much else though. So if anyone can help me find a laptop or suggest one that'd be great! Sorry if this question was posted in the wrong area of the site, if it was just send me elsewhere.

This loosely meets this forums criteria but Flash is a much less aggressive program on a laptop than After Effects. AE will eat a quad hex workstation with 128GB RAM and make it cry for its mama.
RAM is going to be essential to keep you operating as well as a discreet video card.
Laptops in that price range typically come with integrated video cards and 6GB ram or so. You want 8GB minimum as just Photoshop (assuming you use this too) will happily gobble up as much as 50% system RAM. AE + PS + Flash makes 8GB the bare minimum. Just AE, to be honest, makes 8GB the minimum. If you even think about enabling multicore processing you'll need to dedicate, for safety, at least 1.5GB per core. They're all quad core so at 4 cores that's already 6GB, not including the RAM the OS needs or anything else. Besides, I'd probably never enable multicore processing on a laptop. It will use all the cores anyhow, just slightly less efficient, very slightly.
The video card is the next biggest concern. The problem is if you buy an integrated video card like the Intel HD 2000-4000 series that typically comes on i3/i5/i7 laptops then you share your system RAM with your video card. So consider up to 2GB system RAM to be required for the video card. So a 8GB laptop becomes a 6GB laptop just that fast. So what you want is a laptop with a discreet (separate) video card like a GeForce M or Radeon HD Mobility. They have their own RAM (usually 1GB in that range) and won't bother your system memory, as well as vastly outperform Intel HD graphics when using adaptive or openGL rendering in AE.
As for Flash, it's pretty happy in an environment. Lately I wouldn't have less than 6GB just to have it as even with 16GB I sometimes get "out of memory" errors exporting heavy library projects. I chalk this up to a mem leak in Flash (CS5.5 for me) more than the lack of RAM though as I restart Flash and it's fine again.
All that said, considering their speed, warranty with willingness to service on-location and technical support overall, I'd point you to a Dell Inspiron (or better). http://www.dell.com . I've always been extremely happy with their offerings and have many servers, laptops and LCD monitors from them over the years.
I realize this is $899 but hey it still starts with 8 . This would be easy to carry and sit on  your lap but do note the screen is not full HD. It does have a modern processor, 8gb ram and a discreet video card however. It would be very peppy:
    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=fncww03&model_id=xps-15z&c=us&l=en&s =dhs&cs=19
Personally, for something you'd use to make money and would want to hang on to for a long time I'd spend the extra couple hundred, upgrade to a 17.3" screen full HD 1080p if you plan on working on HD video, still with 8gb ram and discreet video:
    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dncwn13b&model_id=inspiron-17r-se-77 20&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
