I am planning to to a clean install of Mavericks on my MacBook Air 11" mid 2012. Will i lose out on the free apps like iPhoto and iMovie etc after the clean install? Has anyone done it yet?

I had not upgraded to the free 10.8 update.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you do a clean installation, you will lose all iLife apps (iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand) because they are not included in OS X. However, after reinstalling OS X, you will be able to reinstall them for free from the Mac App Store. Open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and download the iLife applications. Note that the latest version is only compatible with OS X Mavericks.
Also, make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading and check that your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • I am having the same problem as many others: the scrabble on my iPhone just stopped working out of the blue yesterday - has anyone figured out what the fix is ??

I was wondering if anyone has figured out why the Scrabble app isn't working on all of these iPhones yet?? It started on mine yesterday .

If this doesn't resolve the problem you have a phone with a hardware failure.

  • Ghosting (burn-in) on MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) after installing OS X Yosemite

Has anyone started noticing ghosting (burn-in) on your laptop screen after installing OS X Yosemite ?
I'm using MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012).

    Hi,
I may have noticed the same thing, (Should I be concerned about colors behind grey login screen at startup?). I called apple support and it appears that the screen background is "slightly visible" after the update. You can change your background and see if your ghosting image moves accordingly. The white bleed through in my images, happens to be from Earthdesk which displays a map as a background. You might be seeing a similar effect.

  • I've installed Mavericks on my Macbook Air and it keeps asking me to log in - not a mail or keychain problem - actual OS log in.

I've installed Mavericks on my Macbook Air. Every twenty minutes or so I get the log in screen and have to type in my computer password again.
I don't think this is a keychain or mail problem - just the computer login.

    Try this.

  • Has anyone done a full install of Win7 RC1 onto a PC built in 2006 or earlier?

I'm thinking of putting RC1 onto a Presario Desktop PC that came with XP and was built in 2006.
Has anyone done a full install of Win7 RC1 onto a PC that originally came with XP (built in 2006 or earlier)? I'm curious what the experience was like.
    Was it easy/hard?
Did 7 catch all the basic drivers?
What drivers did you have to go looking for - if any?
    Thanks for the help.

Please post rather than send me a Message. It's good for the community and I might not be able to get back quickly. - Thank you.

I've loaded Win7 RC1 on a HP dv8000 notebook that was built in mid-2006.  It seems to have gone ok except for the sound board problem.  There is effectively no sound.  If you turn the volume all the way up, you get very very low sound.
I had this problem when I moved from the original operating system XP to Vista, but I can't recall the solution and haven't been able to find a working driver yet.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • I'm desperately needing advice to a common question.  I use Quicken and love it.  But the Mac version is not as great as the PC.   Has anyone installed it by segmenting their Mac with Parallels or Fusion or Boot camp.  If so, which one do you recommend.

I'm desperately needing advice.  New Mac.   Used Quicken on my PC.  Researched all software for Financial programs and Quicken is still the most recommended.   I want to use Quicken on my Mac.  The Mac version is not highly rated so I would need to partition my Mac.   Has anyone done this for their quicken program and if so, which partitioning program did you use - Parallels, Fusion ware or Boot camp?
    Thx

Thanks.  Hadn't heard of it. ?  Is there any concern installing this free program on my Mac.    Have you used it?  Apart from being free is there any other advantage of Parallels and VMfusion. ?
Virtual Box is safe and well developed, it offers similar or identical features to the paid competition, it may be a little less polished but that's all.
Download and try it out, nothing to lose (except time).

  • HT1553 I want to do a clean install of Mountain Lion. Can I do this without a DVD version of the OS, and can I restore only specific things like iPhoto and iTunes libraries from Time Machine backup.

I want to do a clean install of Mountain Lion. Can I do this without a DVD version of the OS, and can I restore only specific things like iPhoto and iTunes libraries from Time Machine backup.

Mountain Lion is only available as a download, so there is no DVD to purchase. What you can do is download ML and then stop it from installing as soon as it's on your drive. From there you can make your own bootable ML flash drive.
When your purchase and download Mountain Lion, it will end up in the Applications folder and automatically want to install. Press Command+Q to stop the install and exit. The installer will remain on the hard drive.
    1) Right click on the installer and choose "Show Package Contents".
    2) A folder will open on the desktop. Drill down to Contents > SharedSupport and double click the disk image InstallESD.dmg to mount it on the desktop.
    3) From here you can either burn a DVD, or copy the contents to a flash drive. Personally, I would strongly suggest using an 8 GB flash drive formatted as Mac OS Extended. You will be able to boot to it in about 30 seconds instead of at least 10 minutes off of a DVD, and it will install MUCH faster. Make sure the flash drive is empty, or you've copied anything off it it you need as it will need to be erased.
    4) Don't just drag and drop the contents you see in the open disk image to the flash drive. It won't boot that way as it will be missing some hidden files. Open Disk Utility. You will something similar to this:
    5) To accomplish the above, highlight either the flash drive's single partition (as I did), or the item at the bottom (Mac OS X Install ESD), which is what you will see with the Lion disk image mounted. It doesn't matter which one you pick. You'll then have the option to select the Restore tab towards the upper right. Drag and drop from the left column into the Source and Destination fields as shown above. If you've already erased the flash drive, you can uncheck the box. Click the Restore button.
You've just made your own bootable Mountain Lion USB Flash drive installer. Once you boot to the flash drive, run Disk Utility first to erase the drive you want Mountain Lion on, then continue with the install.
As far as restoring your iPhone and iTunes libraries, I couldn't tell you. So I wouldn't do any of the above until someone else chimes in with a way to do that after a clean install of ML.

First, you can install Microsoft's Security Essentials in the Win 7 VM and keep it up-to-date. Second, you can turn off Sharing in Fusion's System Settings to keep the VM environment separate from your Mac. Third, you can look into Sophos Anti-Virus http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-ed ition/download.aspx for the Mac host.

  • I am trying to generate a 50kHz sine wave for ten cycles, then aquire this waveform and store it in a file, I am using a PCI-Mio 16E-4 board, has anyone done anything like this?

I am trying to generate a 50kHz sine wave output on the DAQ card and then simultaneously recieve. I am using a PCI-Mio 16E-4 series board to do this. Has anyone done anything similar. I can generate a 50k wave no problem, and recieve one, but I can not get these vis to run together? Any suggestiosn

Jrod, yes you should be able to do this, actually there are quite a few example programs come with LabVIEW that handles simultaneous analog input and output, I check the specs of the board you use, the board should be able to handle the sampling/generation rate, but make sure for 50KHz sine wave, you would sample at least twice as fast, preferably ten times the generation rate, then this puts the sampling of the board to thew limit.
The program you can try is attached here, good luck with the application,
