I am planning to update my iPad to IOS5. How do I retain pictures

I am considering the update to IOS 5. How can I retain pictures, contacts & emails. It looks as though music and apps are sync'd when upgrade is completed, but no mention of pics, emails, contacts. Is the upgrade worth the hassle?

Photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc (i.e. photos not synced from your computer) are included in the backup - but to be safe of not losing them in case something goes wrong you should copy them off first so that you have your own copy : photos to computer . A full list of what is included in a backup is shown on this page.
Before starting the update you should copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. You should also backup the device (right-click the iPad 'device' and select 'back up'), and copy off any important documents, file, notes etc (e.g. by email, the file sharing section at the bottom of the Apps tab in iTunes, wifi, whatever the apps that you use support) - the update process should backup and restore the content but it's best to be safe.
As to whether the upgrade is worth it, only you know whether you need any of the new features.

  • I want to update my ipad into ios5 how can i backup my ipad apps and song?

please help me how can i backup my ipad apps and songs thank you...

To update to iOS 5.0.1 you need iTunes 10.5 on your computer. When you've got iTunes 10.5 installed then connect your iPad to it and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases - that will copy off your apps and iTunes bought music, films (not rentals if they were bought directly on the iPad), tv show, ibooks, but it won't copy off music bought from other stores or music copied from your own CDs (if they are no longer on your computer then you will need to find a third-party program that can copy them off the iPad).
You should also backup the device (right-click the iPad 'device' and select 'back up'), and copy off any important documents, files, notes etc (e.g. by email, the file sharing section at the bottom of the Apps tab in iTunes, wifi, whatever the apps that you use support) - the update process should backup and restore the content but it's best to be safe.
If iTunes doesn't prompt you to update to iOS 5.0.1 on your iPad, then with your iPad connected to and selected on the left-hand side of it, then on the Summary tab on the right-hand side click the Check For Updates button.

How do I update my iPad to ios5 I am getting an error mesage -402653081 while backing up the iPad, if I proceed then I will loose all the content of the iPad?

The IOS5 upgrade will erase everything on your iPad, so make sure you have a good backup before you start.
If not, you will just have to reenter all of your settings all over again.  Have you ever backed it up successfully?

    I don't think you're on iOS 5, I think you're using iOS 6.  That's the latest version.
Unless you've used iCloud to back up your documents, you won't be able to restore them.  And for future reference, you don't have to uninstall Pages to update your iPad anymore.  Sorry about this.

  • HT4623 I'm trying to update my iPad to ios5, I have gone thru Settings, General, but there is no update button available...what am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to update my iPad to ios5, as I want Sky Go on it to watch the cricket, so I've gone thru Settings, General, but there is no update available...what am I doing wrong? Or is this iPad not able to get updates? Thanks

You only have the option if you are already running iOS 5. If you are trying to update the iOS, you have to use iTunes on a computer to update the iPad.
There are some important things that you should know before you update.

  • Just updated my iPad to ios5. How can I turn off tabbed browsing in Safari?

My wife just updated her iPad to ios5 because of problems with Safari. Now she cannot see her previous web pages as she could in ios4. Instead she sees tabbed browsing which she hates. Can tabbed browsing be turned off and Safari restored to the way it used to work? Are there any alternatives/
    Thanks.

You can't turn it off. Sorry. Take a look at iCab Mobile. It's another browser that's available in the App Store. It has both tabs and thumbnails (and tons of other neat features).

  • Trying to update our Ipad to iOS5.

Trying to update our Ipad to iOS5 via our desktop Mac. We have mac osx 10.4.11, Itunes ver 9.2.1...What do we need to do?

    These are the requirements:
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
    iTunes 10.2 or later recommended
    (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
I would upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 it is the best for the older machines. Run software update after installing Snow Leopard and let it update everything.

  • Hi to all,how to make back up if i want update my ipad ti ios5,then how to make update to ios5?

Hi to all,how to make back up if i want update my ipad ti ios5,then how to make update to ios5?

Update your iTunes to the most recent version.
Using the cable, connect the iPad to the computer and iTunes. It should tell you that there is an update to the iOS available and ask you if you want to download it.
iTunes will back up your iPad as part of this - make sure to let iTunes do it.
After iTunes installs the new OS, it will restore the backed-up data and media. Make sure to let your iPad do this before unplugging it - it's not clear that the iPad is being restored, but if all goes well it will be.

  • HT4972 Can I update my iPad to iOS5

Can I update my iPad to IOS5?

Any iPad can be updated to iOS 5. You need to use a computer and iTunes - the latest version of iTunes is advised.
What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
However, iTunes should ask if you want to backup before you update, but just in case create the backup yourself before you update. The backup contains your app data and settings - along with other items - so make sure you backup first.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.
    Transfer purchases.
