I AM PRESENTLY CONSIDERING A NEW TRAVEL CAMERA. NEED SUGGESTIONS ON IT

I AM CONSIDERING A NEW CAMERA FOR TRAVEL I PREFER TO CARRY A SMALL COMPACT ONE THAT HAS AS WIDE A RANGE OF ABILITIES AS POSSIBLE.  YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL OCCUR. Ii HAVE TRAVELED WITH A LOT OF LENSES WITH ME AND I FIND THAT I ENJOY THE TRIP MORE IF I KEEP IT LIGHT.  I NEVER CARRIED MUCH ABOUT MOVIES BUT LATELY I HAVE TAKE UP AN INTEREST IN SHOOTING CLIPS. I WANT 1080 CAPABILITIES IN MY NEW CAMERA.. The MOST INFORMANT THING TO ME WOULD BE LENS QUALITY AND THE MATCH OF ZOOM LENS TO M.  PROBABLY ABOUT 16M  BUT 14 COULD WORK.  I  DEFINITELY WANT A SUPERIOR LENS IS OF THE UTMOST CONCERN TO ME.

I suggested this camera to another forum member only moments ago:
Check out the new Canon Digital Elph 110 Hs 16.1 MP. It's not the best over 200 ISO, and it's a bit noisy mechanically speaking, but it's got all the latest Canon goodies. It takes full HD video as good as some moderately priced HD camcorders did only a couple of years ago. My friend, a professional photographer and filmaker, owns one and he uses it when traveling. I've used it and loved it so much I ordered one for my self. I was amazed at the performance and userfriendlyness inherent in this tiny 135g pocket camera. I've seen it listed for as low as $129 from several vendors. The Canon PowerShot Elph 320 HS 16.1 MP is a step up and works better at higher ISO ranges (a lot less noise in the 400 to 800 settings), but it pretty much the same camera in specifications and performance---at twice the price!

  • This problem showed up last year spent 2 months with apple senior supervisor for tech support no solution. When the "new" itunes came out problem fixed its self. Just did an update last week or so and back to the problem. In "get info" missing all rt side

Last year upon an update some of my itunes media was not working. Then the new version came out and it fixed itself.
Well another update and we start over with the problem. In the itunes store you can not preview any tv show, music video, or movie.
In your itunes library none of the purchased movies, tv shows, or music videos play. The element the same is in the get info tab. The information in the right side pane in the middle is gone. The left side information is still present. The right side info is the purchase info. Even an item downloaded today had the missing info and will not play. After dealing with apple support with the first go around last year. I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 8 or more times, in the proper order. I deleted my itunes library and reinstalled it. We deleted all types of program files and program data. nothing worked. I was trying things on my own and foung nothing. Please help I am so frustrated with this. It seems to be a codec error that I can not solve.

  • How can anyone buy new model cameras without RAW support forecasts?

If a person wants to buy a camera and wants to use Aperture, what can they do? I'm sure I want to shoot RAW images, and I'm sure I want to use Aperture, but how does one buy a new model camera when they don't know what drivers Apple is working on adding?
I bought Aperture2 last spring and learned to use it with JPEGs, hoping to use it to shoot RAW images with a newer camera. I've researched cameras and narrowed the field, but when I went to the list of cameras supported by Aperture3, I was horrified. All of the cameras I chose shoot RAW, but almost none are supported in RAW yet, and there seems to be no evidence that they will. I've worked kind of hard, partly learning Aperture, partly researching RAW cameras, and now I'm kind of in shock.
For example, the Canon t2 just came out - the t1 is covered, but how long until the t2 will be supported? Many of the top bridge cameras I'm considering also appear to be missing from the new Aperture3 list - like the the Sony DSC-HX1, the Panasonic Lumix FX35, and the Fuji S200EXR.
I appreciate the RAW support for familiar models, and I appreciate the DNG conversion connection thing - that helps. But what if Apple never comes out with RAW for my new camera after I've committed to it? Adobe Lightroom RAW support list looks a little longer, but is still not much for new bridge cameras. Why should Apple try to keep pace with Adobe, anyway? Why not have an insanely great list of RAW support? Is it that hard to configure devices before they come out?
I could use some reassurance here.

Thank you all for your insightful feedback.

+If a person wants to buy a camera and wants to use Aperture, what can they do?+
Ultimately, I bought a camera that I liked better than any in my price range ($500 or less) that shoots RAW, and is already on Apple's list -- a Canon G11. I want to get a good DSLR later when I can afford one, and then my G11 will make a superb and sturdy "pocketable" camera. The G11's flexible features are already helping me to learn not only about shooting RAW, but about photography in general. The pictures are gorgeous.
I'm using my new camera with Aperture 3, and it's great. I think iPhoto is good for many people, but for those like me who want to do more with their photos, and need a more sophisticated work flow - well, there's not much comparison between them for these purposes, even though they share so many features now (faces, places, et al).
    I also wrote:

Well, Apple got the EOS t2i raw converters into Aperture faster than I could get this post up. They were very, very quick. The more I learn, the more I see how many mainstream cameras Apple does support, and the more I appreciate the problem of supporting new cameras that Apple faces. But I still hope they keep facing it, and don't let up.
Clearly, there are always interesting cameras coming that may never be supported, and being able to handle RAW images outside Aperture may be some people's reasonable choice.
I came very close to buying several cameras that were unsupported or didn't shoot RAW at all. But I've already seen RAW save my pictures. I accidentally took a group of important photos with no white balance at all (they're pale green). Fortunately, I was shooting JPEG+RAW. The JPEGs are nearly useless, but the RAW photo's adjusted quickly to "just right".
Knowing I can make certain non-destructive edits with RAW files is very liberating. I know if I make a mistake or want to change the image, that there are a few vital parameters I can adjust.
As to my camera selection: I chose the G11 because so many people with real photography experience seemed to respect it so much. In the end, I decided that good image quality was more important than pixels, zoom range, etc. Since I decided to wait to get a DSLR, I wanted a versatile point-and-shoot with a retractable lens that would become, as I said, my second, more portable camera later.
I've experienced the companion Canon software now as well. It's fine, but I like organizing my photos in Aperture better. I especially need stacks, and being able to make major adjustments where I keep my photos is vital to me.
Now, Aperture is working well for me, and the experience is turning out far better than I had expected. I'm now loading directly into Aperture instead of referencing iPhoto, I'm handling raw images from a new, more modern camera, and I'm finally feeling settled and comfortable with my image workflow.

  • Idea for new film camera

https://www.flickr.com/groups/67377471@N00/discuss/72157655550680262/72157653262873213 I posted in the "I Shoot Film" group on Flickr in response to "Fantasy Film Wish" where I describe what I believe to be the next evolution of film photography.  I'm a big Minolta and Sony fan.  I wanted to write you and ask if Sony would consider making a new generation of film camera based on a film that could be shot at different ISO's via in-camera pre-flashing of the film as the next big evolution of film photography?  Ideally this new film camera would use the MC/MD mount lenses where aperture rings are still used, and also manual focus.  We film shooters need a new camera with next generation abilities that affords the use of older lenses.  The idea to use pre-flashing of film on a frame by frame basis means a new method of exposure of film, and also a new way to process it, as all frames would be exposed to the same negative contrast density regardless of ISO applied.  These new generation of film cameras would be variable ISO film cameras just like their digital counterparts.  I hope you will truly consider my idea and think what it would mean to film and film photography for coming generations of photographers. Thank you. Sincerely, Craig Janeway

  • Considering a new camcorder (HDD type)

I'm considering getting a new camcorder, and I'm looking at the hard disk drive types. I've been using miniDV for awhile and although I've had no real problems with it, I confess the thought of recording straight to disk is very appealing. I have imported all my raw footage of a dozen+ miniDV tapes to a Western Digital My Book Pro (raid 1), and from there I use iMovie 08 to compile various projects.
Are there any issues I should know about with HDD models? Per Consumer Reports, right now I'm looking at a JVC GZ-MG730 and Panasonic SDR-H60 (leaning toward the latter, based on prior experience with the brand).

    From your post:
"Are there any issues I should know about with HDD models? Per Consumer Reports, right now I'm looking at a JVC GZ-MG730 and Panasonic SDR-H60 (leaning toward the latter, based on prior experience with the brand)."
From my post in another thread:
"Another poster today, on another thread, mentioned getting a JVC, since it was top rated by Consumer Reports. I am a big CR fan and I have noticed their ratings for camcorders lately have focussed on all these newer formatted cams, while relegating miniDV to a side bar type mention. I am of the opinion that they have lost their focus (no pun intended) on this issue because they are not considering the editing aspects of those cams. We see far more problems with HDD, flash and DVD cams here than there ever was, or is, with miniDV, still the best quality video for your dollar."
If you want an informative read about the varied cam formats, read what Davd Babsky had to say in this thread. The main piece is several posts down in the thread.

I have Lightroom 4 and a new 70D camera and when I try to important my photos Lightroom says it doesn't recognize my CR2 files.  Can someone help?  I have downloaded 8.3 from Adobe, but still doesn't work?

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. All of the Camera Raw technology is part of the Lightroom program. You will either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies that can be used with Lightroom 4.

  • I would like to add a new Canon camera profile to the RAW interface

Hi,  I would like to add a new Canon camera profile to the RAW interface.
I have recently installed the new camera profile 'Studio Portrait' which i download from here:
    http://www.canon.co.jp/imaging/picturestyle/file/studio-portrait.html
When I open up a RAW files in Camera RAW, go to 'Camera Calibration', click on the drop down list called
'Camera Profile'  I only see  'Adobe Standard, Faithful etc etc'.
My questions are, can i add the same camera profile i put in my camera, into a folder with in photoshop?
Or is photoshop reading the raw file and only seeing the default camera profiles?
If I could see the new camera profile listed it would help with work flow.
    Best

Please help, ive not had a good time waiting on the phone and trying to explain this to a live chat, hours have been wasted. Once i know the answer I can get back to the commission.

    Are you following this
    Apply a camera profile
To apply a camera profile, select it from the Camera Profile pop-up menu in the Camera Calibration tab of the Camera Raw dialog box. The Adobe Standard profile for a camera is named Adobe Standard. Camera Matching profiles include the prefix Camera in the profile name. The Camera Profile pop-up menu displays only profiles for your camera.
If the only profile in the Camera Profilemenu is Embedded, it means that you have selected a TIFF or JPEG image. Adobe Standard and Camera Matching profiles work only with raw images.
Note:  If you have selected a raw file and Adobe Standardand Camera Matching profiles do not appear in the Camera Profilepop-up menu, download the latest Camera Raw update.

  • Has any Coldplay fan lost purchased content within iTunes, I have recently noticed my Coldplay Live 2012 purchased on iTunes is gone from my iCloud library and no longer available for purchase ! A bit strange considering there new album just went on sale

Recently I have noticed my iTune purchased concert movies after being put back in the cloud are currently missing.
I have never had purchased content from iTunes vanish from my iCloud library and also not be available for purchase on iTunes.
When I had Apple personnel attempt to push the content back to me, they could not find Coldplay's Live 2012.
Even more strange considering their new album just went on sale and renewed interest must be prompting fans to review their collections.
A beautifully shot concert film is missing, a sad situation to be sure!
Thanks for any iCloud wisdom and other fans noticing the same thing.

  • What is best type of 'new' video camera to buy for editing with PE 10?

I currently own two Sony miniDV camcorders (models DCR-HC28 and HC40) and was doing fine in Premiere Elements and recently upgraded to version 10. I was in the process of using the HC40 cam as a 'pass-through' device to digitize some old VHS tapes, and it worked well for copying from VHS to miniDV tape. Then, I could capture in Premiere Elements and edit, etc. (It would never work to pass all the way through to capture in PE in one step using Firewire).  Now, the HC40 camera has locked up on me halfway through my box of VHS tapes, and is stuck showing the Time/Date screen and the touch screen seems to be disabled.  What to do?
There do exist plenty of used DCR-HC40 and 52s (which also support pass-through) on Amazon for sale in the $200 range, and that is one option.  I also went to Best Buys this week and looked at all the new Sony video cameras, and they fell into basically two series:  the DCR-SX series, which record in standard definition onto flash memory (SD cards), and the more expensive HDR-CX series, which record in Hi Definition (also on SD cards) but also, I was told, can record in standard definition.  The miniDV camcorders are no more, apparently.  I am not so enamored of HD recording that I would go whole hog for it, as I am happy with the results I have been getting with my miniDV cameras once burned to DVD or converted to MPEG or MP4 for playing on my iPhone, etc. Plus, HD takes up so much more memory and space on the hard drive compared to standard def files.
I called Sony tech services today to find out that none of the new cameras support the pass-through function for digitizing from old VHS cassettes, so I am looking at buying a VHS-digitizing device as recommended here on the forum such as the ADS Pyro AV Link or Grass Valley ADVC110.  Since I would rather spend that money on a new video camera instead of merely the AV link device which I will have no use for once the tapes are digitized, my question comes back to the cameras. Which of the new cameras will be most ideal for editing in PE10 going forward, or is it best to stick with miniDV for now?
Steve G has always seemed to point out that miniDV tape and the ensuing AVI files are the best for PE to work with.  Sony told me today that even the SD cameras such as the DCR-SX65SD ($219) now record onto the SD cards in MPEG2 format, and that AVI is a thing of the past that died with the miniDV tapes.  I assume MPEG2 still comes out as different clips that one assembles on the Timeline in PE10?  One probably could convert the MPEG2 files to AVI, but would that give the same quality as an original AVI file from a miniDV tape? And if MPEG2 is the new standard going forward, do the resulting videos made with PE10 have the same quality as those made from 'native' AVI files?  I will buy a used DCR-HC40 miniDV camera if the end result is better than those to be obtained with the brand new DCR or HDR series cameras now available in stores.  But if the quality is the same, I could perhaps opt for one such as the HDR-CX 130HD ($349) which also records in SD in case some years from now I decide I really DO want to switch to HD formats.
Any advice on choice/use of the newer cameras and their default formats such as MPEG2 is welcome, in relation to PE10 editing and output capabilities.
    Thanks very much,   paultool3

    Dear JM and Steve,
Thanks much for your replies.  I plan to get my DCR-HC40 miniDV camera fixed so I can use it for pass-through digitizing from VHS tapes.  I also recently bought one of the Dazzle Video Creator Platinum capture units ($84 at Best Buys) just to try it, and actually got pretty good results in digitizing a VHS-C tape using a VHS-C to VHS adapter unit to play it in our VCR, and then using the Pinnacle Studio HD (version 15) that came with the Dazzle unit to import and digitize through the Dazzle unit.
The Dazzle unit would not show up in Premiere Elements 10 as an option to capture from, but did in Pinnacle Studio 15.   I used our Sony VAIO with i7 processor and Pinnacle captured the one hour, twenty-five minute- long VHS-C tape to a single 18GB .AVI  clip which I then was able to bring into Premiere Elements 10 and use for output in various formats.
When using a less powerful laptop initially, the digitizing failed, with 319 dropped frames in the first 5 minutes.. So it takes a more powerful computer to work with a capture unit like Dazzle, apparently.
I will eventually be shopping around for a new,  AVCHD format video camera as well based on your recommendations, but the current group of Sonys in this category, such as the HDR-CX130HD ($349) which record video onto SD cards, are getting bad reviews from CNET, claiming they have poor quality HD and other issues.  So for the forseeable future I will be sticking with miniDV using my Sony DCR-HC28 and HC40 camcorders.

I do video productions for a small local TV station. I use Final Cut Express to edit. I need a new video camera but am at a loss as to what to buy. I know I will get a digital camera but do not know the difference between just digital and digital HD. Also, I can not afford an expensive camera and need some advice on which of the available cameras would be best and also work well with a Mac. One last issue, I currently use a Panasonic #CCD camera that takes a tape. When I load video to Final Cut the audio and video are out of sinc. Go figure. Can anyone help with these questions. Karen

    Hello Karen,
If you are using Final Cut Express, then look for camcorders that are AVCHD camcorders.  Look especially for the AVCHD logo and specific mention of AVCHD in the specs.  Most of the major manufacturers produce good quality camdcorders - Canon, Sony, etc.
Also, be aware that there are a lot of "not quite AVCHD" camcorders on the market (sometimes they say they record video as MPEG4-H.264/AVC) - buyer beware!
Most everything you are going to find on the market today is HD, which stands for "high-def".
Regarding your question about the Panasonic camcorder, it's best if you post that as a separate question, and please identify the specific model camcorder and the Easy Setup you are using in FCE.
