If you are using Adobe Reader ...
Try uninstalling the current copy of Adobe Reader first.
Best to use a utility to do this to make sure all the associated files are removed as well > Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
Then reinstall > http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

This problem is on my laptop running Vista ( Business) on Adobe 10.0 , for many years I did NOT have a problem with this . No forum Pages on this.
Also i would like to know how screen readers can better interact with PDF as my wife has difficultys on some email attachments on her laptop , again there seems no easy avenue for someone in her situation surfing websites and forums for Hours maybe ok ok for sighted people, but not if you are blind & use a screenreader. No Support Help from Adobe is available.

Cannot open PDF-files, "not a right win32 program"

All my PDF-files have the wrong logo. Instead of the PDF logo the have a small Excel logo down in the right corner.
If I try to open it is says it is not a right win32 program. I need help with this.
I downloaded Adobe Reader X today and it did not help. In Reader X there is an option for open files and there it is no problem. All open pdf-files have the right logo in there but the same file anyplace else have abovementioned problem and can not open.

I opened one of the PDF files in notepad and these are the first couple lines:

How to set default program to open pdf file?

How do I choose the program that I want Leopard to use for the default program when I double-click to open a pdf document?

select a pdf file, enter command+I, in the resulting pop-up window click on "open with", select the app you want to use to open pdf files and click on "apply to all".

T410 - Can't regconize DVD-ROM in Windows 7 Pro

My New Laptop - T410 with integrated WIndows 7 Professional, I can see DVD ROM in BIOS, also can boot up using Bootable DVD, but I can't see any DVD Drive in Windows, it look disappear and not recognize because I can't see it in Device Manager.
Anyone can help???

I had the same problem. There are many flags set in OS and they have to be cleared. If you have a flag which says that the DVD has been prepared for removal, it is a clue. If Corel Burn can access the drive, it is a clue.
The first thing I did was update the BIOS. After that the drive was occasionally recognized.
Once you find it listed in device manager, uninstall it. Then -- and this is the most important thing -- reboot your computer.
Seemingly this will clear the miriade of flags which get all confused, when the drive is removed, etc.

Doesn't iBook G3 DVD-ROM read DVD-RW?

I tried to move data from pc to ibook using DVD-RW media. t.
But my ibook DVD doesn't read it but just spits it out. My iBook G3 500 DVD-rom doesn't read DVD-RW? DVD is MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8176. Or should I upgrade firmware? Thanks.

Which software are you using to write the DVD-RW on the PC?
The problem probably arises as the when the PC writes the DVD-R it uses a standard (ISO 966) which the iBook can read.
When writing the DVD-RW often PC software will format the disk so it acts like a floppy disk. However this proprietary format will only be readable on the PC with the disc writing software, the disc is unreadable, not just on Macs, but also on PCs as well.
How you correct this depends on the software you are using.
I would change the DVD-RW settings or create a disk image using the DVD burning software and then burn that ISO 9660 image to the DVD-RW, this should then be readable by the iBook.

DVD Studio Pro 2 Hangs on Startup / Project Open

Recently upgraded to OS X 10.4 and now DVD Studio Pro 2 will not open properly. The program hangs on open. If I try to open an old project file, the program will open, but will be frozen. I have deleted preferences, repaired permissions, etc. Any other ideas as to what's going on?

Novice DVD Studio Pro user - need few tips

I've started with a task of creating a simple DVD with DVD Studio Pro 4. Task that has been shown a bit over my head for now.
Recently I created a DVD with iDVD and it worked nicely, but I wanted more hands on approach. I was supprised that DVD studio cant accept .m4v files and MPEG2 files. But in the program specs, in the Import FAQ section it says it can. So I don't know what video file to use.
Here are my biggest concerns when creating this DVD.
I have one menu. I have set a background photo for it, its 1920x1080 for 1080 HD video.
Should I go with max HD video, or use Standard Definition video instead?
I have already created my videos in m4v format. What do I need to do, so DVD Studio Pro 4 would read them? To mention this, I have converted them using VisualHub to MPEG-2, but DVD Studio Pro 4 refused to import them, clamming that they are not supported.
On that one menu, I want to have 6 buttons, that are actually a little pictures (stills from video, that I have already taken from video, and resized them in photoshop, and exported them as JPEG). How can I create buttons from those little JPEGS. One image for one button that will play one video.
In the end, I was thinking putting a little opening video before main menu showed. Video for about 5-6 seconds and then menu would show up. How can I do this? Is there some trick in Outline and Inspector that I should do? And also, what video (its tied with first question)?
I appreciate any help or reply. If you cant write everything down, please direct me to some tutorial or training video/site where I can get some answers.

You should be making m2vs (without audio in them, in other words not multiplexed) for SD DVDs (which is what you are going for it sounds like.) MPEG-4 is compressed so you wind up recompressing.
Use Pro Res to send out a self contained movie from FCP or send the timeline straight from Final Cut to Compressor an preset (or one that you make yourself.) I prefer sending out self-contained versions in case I need to re-rencode or want to make items for various formats.

Now there are geenerally two types of DVDs - SD (which is pretty much everything out there, except for blu-ray and the defunct HD DVD) and the HD ones. SD discs will play on anything for the most part and you can use HD video in making SD discs. When converting from HD sources, set up Compressor to tweak frame controls for resizing to better. Make sure aspect is 16:9 and when you put in the track set it for 16:9 Letterbox, not 16:9 pan and scan or pan and sacn letterbox.
As to menus check [this thread out|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11253338#11253338] for a real quick overview - sounds like you would probably want to composite the menu in Motion.
As to starting the movie, set the first play to the clip you want (which is a good idea in general - start with some video and not and menu) then set the jump from the track to your main menu.

Also looking at the tutorials and manuals will also give you alot of the information, but the above should jumpstart you and help get you past some of the intial hurdles.

DVD Studio Pro Newbie Needs Help!

I have a presentation deadline approaching and I need help desperately. I created my presentation using Keynote 3 (800*600 slides) and exported it to a Quicktime movie using H.264 compression at 29.97 fps (high quality settings). I then proceeded to use iDVD 6 and imported the Quicktime movie and created a simple menu using the templates provided.
I saved the entire project as a disk image and used the DVD player to check the disk image file. The quality of the DVD disk image file looked nothing like the original Quicktime movie. The images and text looked blurry and unprofessional.
I've spend quite some time on the iDVD and Keynote discussion forums and can't find a solution to my problem. The conclusion I've come is that the mpeg-2 encoder that iDVD 6 uses is problematic.
I don't want to start using DVD Studio Pro but I will in order to preserve the quality of my original Keynote presentation. So here are my questions...thank you in advance for your help guys....I really need it:
- I plan on playing the DVD on a 42" Plasma display at a sales office and also distributing it to potential buyers. Are my Keynote export settings optimal for iDVD use? Should I be using H.264 @ 29.97?
- If I must use DVDSP then what export/compression settings should I use in Keynote to preserve the quality? Keynote doesn't give me an option to use mpeg-2. I have ffmpegX so I can encode different formats...just need to know the correct one.
- Keynote exports separate audio and video files. I combined them using Quicktime. Is it possible to use the combined file in DVDSP or do they need to be separate.

You can use a mov file that contains both audio and video. DVD Studio Pro will compress the mov itself. I am not overly familiar with the codec H.264 but either way its a codec that compresses the video, and if I am right that codec is used for compressing video to web based file sizes, which means heavy compression. When I create DVD material I use M2V format which is what DVD SP wants anyways so it cuts time and drive space in half. If you export an mov and import it into DVD SP, DVD SP compresses the file again which is M2V. Now you have two files, with twice the compression time. When creating M2V the only thing that you need o be aware of is the bit rate, which needs to be adjusted pending the duration of the video. Use 29.97 if you are NTSC and full frame rate, which you should be.
If you can not create an M2V file with associated aiff audio file, than export your QT file as uncompressed or as a QT Movie. The file itself will be huge but DVD SP will compress it properly.

Adobe will not open PDF files from other programs

This is on one of the computers in our office. We use a medical records program called Sevocity. This program stores documents that we import into the electronic charts as PDF files. When we upgraded that computer from Adobe to Adobe Pro, it no longer opened the PDF documents stored there. Is this an issue with the medical program or with Adobe Pro? We already had Sevocity Support attempt to fix the problem, but they said the issue looked like it was with Adobe.
We would like to troubleshoot by re-installing AdobePro, but we want to make sure that none of our files stored to the Adobe Document Cloud. If we re-install Adobe, will those documents still be available in the online Adobe account's Document Cloud, or do we need to move those documents to the collective Creative Cloud?

Yeah, it does open from other sources like "My Documents", but sometimes it won't open the print previews in our billing system either. Communication error with secure sites and programs, maybe? I don't get an error message, though. It just displays the "processing" symbol next to the mouse for a second or two like it does when PDF's usually open, and then nothing happens. We are using Windows 7 on that computer. The other computer that runs on Windows 7 also has Adobe Pro XI, but does not experience these problems. I have also put in a ticket with Sevocity (the program that is not communicating with Adobe).
And that's a relief about the Document Cloud! We will try to re-install just in case it was something that went wrong with the initial install.

I cannot open PDF files on a tractor repair manual CD. Do I need a program to be able to open the files?

First I am not very tech savvy so bear with me. I have a service repair manual for my New Holland tractor that is on a CD. When I go to open the PDF files on the CD I get the following error message:
"acrobat could not open "FILE NAME" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correcty decoded)."
I suspect the problem is that I need a specific program distributed by New Holland to be able to open/read the files. Would that be a possibility? This disc would normally only be used by New Holland service personnel at the dealer. I did a google search for PDF decoder and tried a few different programs but none of them worked with any of the files on my cd.
The CD has the file "acroread5.exe" which installed acrobat reader 5.0 on my computer. It also has "autorun.exe". When I open "autorun.exe" it opens acrobat reader and gives me the same error message as above. There is an "AutoRunHL.exe" that when I open my computer will give me the loading symbol for a couple seconds and then nothing happens. There is another file "autorun.inf" which consists of:
