I am replacing my existing SATA hard drive to a Solid State hard drive and want to image the drive, is this possible?
I am replacing my existing 320 GB SATA hard drive that clicks and makes weird noises to a Solid State hard drive and want to image the drive, is this possible? I then want to replace the DVD with a secondary large drive for storage.
So I am looking for any "gotchas" that I may be unaware of.

Put the Old drive in an external notebook drive enclosure. Install the SSD in your computer. Boot from your Old drive's Recovery HD:
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Clone Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
button.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
to the Destination entry field.
5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
the Source entry field.
6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the New SSD. Source means the external Old hard drive.
Set the new Startup Disk to the SSD and restart the computer.
This process clones both your old OS X volume and the Recovery HD volume to the SSD. You can use a similar process to clone the SSD to the new hard drive you will install.

i don't have any experience with DLNA TV's but i recently moved my iTunes library to a NAS. streaming content to airport express remote speakers and TV2 works great. however, i have all my gear hardwired to my time capsule (except the airport express) so i'm not sure how well streaming e.g. HD movies to TV over wifi works.

I just purchased a new iMac to replace our older one. We are giving our older one to parents and want to wipe the HD. The discs I have for my old iMac is for version 10.5 but I'm currently running 10.6.8. Is there a way to wipe the HD and keep 10.6.8?
No. Wiping the HD will erase the OS on it.

T61 new solid state hard drive STOP Code 07B -- WinXP
I replaced my faulty hard drive with a solid state hard drive by using the Rescue and Recovery CD using the full recovery method for Windows XP. It totally loaded; however, on final reboot after loading 6 CD's I receive a stop code and it reboots only to stop again. Any ideas?

I've never received a 7B error message when using recovery discs, but I guess it's possible. Please try changing the SATA setting in your BIOS to Compatability Mode from AHCI.
Press F1 at boot to access BIOS, select the Config and then SATA menus in order to change the setting.

Solid State Hard Drive Replacement For HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j053cl?
Hello there,
I want to swap out my current 1TB harddrive from my year-and-a-half old HP ENVY with a 500 GB solid state harddrive that I just purchased from Amazon.
Two questions:
1) Is this solid state harddrive compatiable with my computer (specs below)?
2) I want to reinstall windows onto the solid state harddrive after I install it (assuming its compatable). How can I go about putting Windows 8 on a bootable usb drive to do this? The computer does not have an optical drive and I don't have an external optical drive, so installing Windows via bootable usb is my only option.
I'm aware I can "clone" my PC onto the external harddrive if I wish, but I'd rather do a clean install if I can.

The HP Backup and Recovery app can also do it. This is a factory clean install image and any data and programs you have added will be lost. If you have an external hard drive you can also do a backup with Windows File History. Then, add the backed up files to the factory install. You can also use File History to make a system image type backup and restore it to the new drive using a repair disk but this is virtually the same as a clone, which you said you do not want.

There wouldn't be enough room in the Mac Mini enclosure for 2 Fusion Drives since they are really just a SSD and a Platter HD working in conjunction. Could really be smoking in a 4 Drive RAID box though. I am speculating here but there is only 1 additional partition allowed in the Fusion Drive. My thought is that the current Management Software would get thoroughly confused with multiple partitions probably due to mount points not being able to register in a normal manner. IMHO the Fusion Drive is another crutch for the normal/average user that doesn't want to be bothered with file management protocols.

How difficult is it to install solid state hard drive on an existing mac, you can buy the solid state hard drive from crucisl and someon will put it in, anyone ever done this?
Yes I have. It is very easy to do yourself. If you can turn a screw driver and unplug then replug one cable you can do it yourself.
The hardest part is having a current backup or clone of your original drive, that is if you don't want to do a clean install of OS X and programs, and then restoring either to the SSD. Although that is fairly easy also. -
Adding a solid state hard drive to a Mac Pro 3,1
I have two hard drives in my Mac Pro 3,1. I want to add a solid state hard drive and upgrade Yosemite to it. I will eventually use my existing drive as extra storage. Does anyone know if this model of Mac Pro can support SSD drive? Also, can I mix and match normal hard drives with SSD drives? I know I will also need an adapter since SSD's are 2.5 inch. The one I am thinking about getting is the Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD). Any feedback that can confirm or deny compatibility would be appreciated.
Thanks,I have Mac Pro (4.1 2009 model) and I have Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500GB. There is an issue you you want to run Yosemite. That drive requires that TRIM is enabled otherwise the perforamnce goes down. There is a Trim Enabler that you can get but but default Yosemite rejects it and disables it so you end up with a driver with TRIM not eanbled. There is a hack that allows you to get it working again but it has some security implications.
Just be aware of it.

yes you can do it and not void the warranty. Those are the only hardware changes that Apple permits. Instructions on how to upgrade the ram and remove and replace the hard drive are even included in the owners manuals for MacBook Pros.

Yes, you're right. It is the Seagate Momentus XT and it does not spin. That was just a layman's term for computer illiterate like myself. After hours of inspection & a prayer, I discovered by pulling the 4 GB memory chips out I put in, replacing the 1.5 GB back in for the memory which I upgraded 3 years ago. Chime! It works! So it is the 4 GB memory causing the problem. But why? Does that mean my Macbook Pro does not support with more memory? The fan noise is now gone which I suspect it was caused the other overheating Seagate hard drive & eventually causing the crash. However, the top bar temp indicator shows 174˙F @ 000rpm. Does that also mean the fan on the left is not working? (the right fan on the board works). Do they work simutaneously? Or left fan is just a back up?

Solid state hard drive for X100e
Can one replace the hard drive that comes with the x100e with a solid state drive? If so how would one go about doing it?
Is there a Thinkpad with a solid state hard drive about the same size as the x100e? My only complaint about the x100e is the relatively short battery life and it seems to me that a solid state drive would correct that(?)Hello,
I have two X100e's that I installed the Kingston 64GB SSD in for family members. The process was not terribly complicated:
• turn the X100e over
• remove the battery
• unscrew the access panel on the bottom
• remove the HDD caddy (I don't recall if it has a screw holding it in)
• remove the HDD from the caddy
• install the SSD to the caddy
• reinsert the HDD caddy
• replace the access panel on the bottom
• reinstall the battery
At this point I plugged the AC adapter back in, connected a DVD±RW disc drive via USB and installed Microsoft Windows 7 to the SSD from the recovery discs I purchased from Lenovo.
The Hardware Maintenance Manual for the X100e, which explains how to replace parts on the unit, has excellent diagrams explaining how to swap out the disk drive. It can be found online here. There are also videos here on the Lenovo Service and Training web site which might be of use.

I connected my external hard drive to my new imac to put all of the information from my macbook onto it. I have been working on the macbook now and want to reconnect the external hard drive so my imac is updated with the work. How is that done? or is it possible?
As I said, I don't use Time Machine, so it'd be best to wait for an "expert" answer, but, with my very limited knowledge, I'd say: probably not - so, for now, I'd suggest you read up on Time Machine:

How do i recover data from an external hard drive that was accidentally deleted? After I verified the drive, a message appeared that said my drive needed to be repaired. When I tried to access the drive again, the 700 Gigs of music is gone!
Stop using the drive immediately, un plug it.
Buy a copy of ProSoft DataRescue 4 and use it to search for deleted files. -
I have an external hard drive from my time capsule that stopped working on me. I am attempting to access the data with a hard drive reader on my MAC. I am able to see the drive in disk utility and under system info USB. But I am unable to access the data and it does not show on the desktop when connected.
Ok if disk utility was able to verify the drive I doubt there is any problem.. are you trying to open a TM backup??
You need to mount the sparsebundle then check the actual info inside the bundle.
Don't use disk warrior.. if the disk has verified then unless you deliberately deleted files there is nothing that is going to do.
