I am replacing the H8S 2117 chip, does anyone know how to flash it, or does it even need to be flashed?

I am replacing the H8S 2117 smc chip, due to the system not booting up, can anyone tell me how to flash the chip or if it even needs to be flashed or if someone offers this as a service?

For the apps:
- You can't delete the apps that came with the iPod
- Go to Settings>General>Restrictions and see if there is the Restrictions set that prevents deleting apps

After writing into serial port, the same message gets bounced back into the Inqueue also. If anyone know how to avoid this, please rpely.

If you disconnect the cable going to the serial device, do you still get the echo? If so you have something going on in the port setup. If disconnecting the cable stops the echo then the device you're talking to is doing it - which would be my bet. One thing to check is whether this might not be normal operation. I have seen devices that if a command was successful, it simply echo'd back the command string you had sent. Also many serial devices have setting for specifying whether they are to echo commands.

If you are getting an 'invalid security code' message then is the address on your iTunes account exactly the same (format and spacing etc) as on your credit card bill : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646 ? If it is then you could try what it says at the bottom of that page :
If the issue persists, contact your credit card company and verify that they and any company they use to process credit card authorizations have the correct information on file.
And/or try contacting iTunes support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Express Lane, then iTunes > iTunes Store

i just got a used iBook g4 and i love it! i got an f12 key to replace the one that was missing on the keyboard, but i dont know how to get it to stick on there. i thought i would be as easy as replacing a key on a PC keyboard, but i was mistaken.
if anyone knows how, i could use the help!

My backlit keyboard will not go off automaticaly i have the box checked but it still doesn't turn on and off. i am having to do it using the f5 and f6 keys. anyone know how to make it work automatically in low light?

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

If you press the caps lock key does it light up? If it does then this indicates that your system is booting but the display is either not recognized, is not displaying any video, or the display is displaying video but the backlight system is not lighting up. As long as you've tried turning up the brightness then there is not much you can do other than take it in for a diagnosis. If you have a very bright flashlight you can turn on the iMac and then shine the flashlight onto various areas of the iMac display to see if you can see any faint images on the display. If you do then this indicates that the display is displaying the image, but the backlight is not turning on for some reason. It doesn't change the outcome, but at least you can assist the technician who is troubleshooting your iMac.
Please let us know what you find out.

Does anyone know how to use Retropect back soft ware - I need help with it

Is there anyone familiar with Retrospect Backup software here who might be able to help me with the following problem ?
My 2007 iMac with the tiger 10.4.11 OS suddenly crashed exactly two weeks ago when I told the trash to empty. The reason was that some malware or virus had appeared on my computer. There was an alias icon on the desktop that linked to a core item in the system folder; that is why it crashed. It was the malware that put it there somehow.
So, I was left with a dead computer without an operating system to make it work.
I telephoned Applecare for help as I was clueless as to what to do. Because I can’t write the thousands of words here to describe the ghastly experience Applecare have been I will miss that out for the time being. Suffice to say it has been utterly excruciating and horrible and I have so far lost all my data, including all the software I have ever bought, because of them. That’s 23 years of writing stuff onto to all the previous Macs I’ve owned.
So, the question is this. I have a Retrospect backup software backup in my external hard disk. This should still have all my information on as it was a backup made just the day before the computer crashed.
But I no longer have the Retrospect software on either my external hard disk or on the computer, so when I double click on the Retrospect icon in the external hard disk I get a message asking me to find the application software to open it with. I haven’t got it ( thanks to applecare’s utter incompetence).
Applecare had insisted that I would be able to retrieve my data from this backup if they installed Snow Leopard to make the computer work. But when I tried to do this the computer crashed again and I was left without an OS again. Yet another visit to the ‘genius’ bar (what a joke) at the Applestore and this time they installed Leopard which ended up leaving me without any data at all.
The Retrospect support people told me that I could only retrieve information from this backup if the computer had the original Operating system, i.e. OS Tiger 10.4.11.
The question is, can anybody here tell me exactly how to retrieve a Retrospect backup from my external hard disk, because so far, both Applecare & Retrospect support have not been of any help at all really and I have spent every waking minute of the past two weeks trying to sort out this problem without any success so far.

The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Then edit your payment details.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Then try again.

IPhoto 11 Flagged folder randomly changes to contain ALL my photos, even though I only just selected 10 or 20 photos. Then it will reset to the right number, sometimes. Anyone know how to prevent this behavior?

I am using iPhoto 11 and flagging photos in Events, and the Recent Flagged folder updates to contain those photos properly, UNTIL I navigate around in iPhotos to other Events, or in other folders, then the Flagged folder shows 20000+ photos (my entire library has been put under Flagged!)
It resets back to my intentionally flagged photos if I go and flag another photo, but it is unnervering to see all my effort (temporarily?) wiped. I am worried this problem WILL eventually clear my flagged photos and I will need to start over.
So, I am wondering if anyone has seen this behaviour and found a way to prevent/avoid it?

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Here is what you can try,
Hold both the power and home buttons until the device powers off, may take 10sec. Let go of both as soon as screen goes black.
Open itunes on your computer and plug in your cable to the computer but NOT the phone.
Once itunes is open hold down the home button on phone and plug in cable and continue holding home button until you see the connect to iTunes logo on screen. iTunes will give a msg that a device has been detected in recovery mode. Now select restore and do not disconnect until you see your device in iTunes again.

I dislike emojes. I like being able to dictate my messages. After the recent update the mic symbol next to the space bar has been replaced with a Happy Face. Anyone know how I can get the mic back?

Dictation is not listed as an option to enable. But I was able to get rid of the emoji keyboard. Yay! Still no "mic" for dictation, though.

Every backup replaces the old one, so, unless you included the backup folder in your computer backup routine, you can't get back your calendar info.
The only time iTunes will not replace a backup is, when you use it to restore from, this one will stay in the backup list in iTunes.
