I am running 10.7.4 with Java installed an applets enabled, if I update to 10.8, will I need to re-install Java?

Does Java installation and "Enable java applets" carry through if you upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion or does Java have to be re-installed?

Kappy
Thanks, I was aware that a clean install erases the drive and that, since 10.7.3, Java is not part of the OS X install, but could be easily added via java preferences.app.  I was not aware of how the 10.8 installer behaved when Java had been installed on a prior version.  I appreciate the help.

    is there any way how i can download and run Window based games, with out installing Windows-thus Bootcamp? and if so, is it free?

    No, you must install Windows to run Windows software. You do not need to use Boot Camp (yes, it's free because it comes with OS X.)
    Windows on Intel Macs
    There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
    You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • How can i run my .class file with out installing java ?

    Hai friends..am new to java , plz help me any one.
    I wrote a small program in java lang. i want to run this program in my friend's system , which is doesnt have java language .. How can i run this program in my friends system with out installing java language?
    one of my friends told that ,it needs to copy the jvm in to ur directory where the java code is present . How can i copy the jvm from where to where ..?plz help me any one

    Your friend will have to install the Java runtime if they want to run Java
    programs.
    Don't go copying files yourself - and especially don't go copying them to the
    location of the Java code. After all, if your friend wants to run 42 different
    Java programs they shouldn't have to have 42 copies of the runtime.
    Just download and run the installer from this site:
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
    Be careful to download the "Java Runtime Environment" not the JDK.

  • EXE runs only on machines with LV installed

    I updated a program that made the following changes:
    Added a set up panel VI to consolidate data input information,starting quadrant control and added a user input for default file location.  This VI opens a new front panel and closes when completed.  The EXE version of this works only on machines that has the full LV installed.
    The EXE of the old version distributed fine as an EXE with the app builder.  Now the new version does not run on the LVRT machines.
    I'm sure I'm missing some check box in some set up panel like "re-entrant execution" or something like that.  Any clues will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Dennis,
    I'm not sure what is considered calling the VI dynamically.  I have it open when the VI is called and it closes when it is completed.  The VI does show up in the "dependancies" section when I'm building the app so I left all other items at their default settings.  In the source files of the app builder, I'v set the main file as the start up window, then used both the default settings and tried to have the files included as part of the EXE file.  I have seen a message box flash on the screen and was able to capture it on a slow running PC. It is eraching for NIAALpro.lvlib and it is found in an instr.lib.  What I think I need to do is have the EXE not call any external files.  Any hints on how to do that?
    Thanks

    Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop?  An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
    Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options:  ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.

  • [End of TNS data channel] with Java SDO API (JDBC thin 9.0.1.2.1)

    Hello folks,
    Environment:
    Win2K, 1.2GHz Intel, 500MB RAM, Oracle 9i, Oracle JDBC Thin (9.0.1.2.1), JDK1.3
    Our data in the DB is 2-D. It consists of SDO LineString geometries. We use SRID = 8307.
    I run into this problem with Java SDO API. I got this exception: "Io exception: End of TNS data channel"
    when I try to execute query that uses the SDO_RELATE function:
    SELECT e.shape
    FROM edge e
    WHERE SDO_RELATE(e.shape,
    mdsys.sdo_geometry( 2003, 8307, NULL,
    mdsys.sdo_elem_info_array(1,1003,1),
    mdsys.sdo_ordinate_array(-125.8,49.9,-125.6,49.9,-125.6,50.0,-125.8,50.0,-125.8,49.9) ),
    'mask=ANYINTERACT querytype=WINDOW') = 'TRUE'
    If I use SDO_FILTER instead of SDO_RELATE it works!
    Here is how I execute the query in Java:
    public int executeSpatialQuery(OracleConnection conn, String spatialQuery) throws Exception
    int numberOfGeometries = 0;
    conn.setDefaultRowPrefetch(1000);
    Statement ps = conn.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = ps.executeQuery(spatialQuery);
    while (rs.next()) {
    numberOfGeometries++;
    rs.close();
    ps.close();
    return numberOfGeometries;
    Note: I was playing with the "conn.setDefaultRowPrefetch(n)" method hoping that there might be something to do with that but with no success.
    Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello folks,
    Here is what I've done:
    1. Created a "mini" Realtional model (modelB) which mimics exactly our existing "big" Realtional model (modelA). The tables, sequences, indices, etc. in modelB have been created in exactly the same fashion we'd created the corresponding entities in modelA. The only difference is that I preceeded the entities in our test modelB with "TEST_".
    2. Populated the modelB with 1298 Lakes (3993 edges in total) in exatly the same fashion we use to populate our modelA - using a Data Loader based on Java SDO API.
    3. Indexed the test modelB in exactly the same fashion as modelA.
    4. Ran the query:
    SELECT e.shape FROM test_edge e WHERE SDO_RELATE(e.shape,
    mdsys.sdo_geometry(
    2003,
    8307,
    NULL,
    mdsys.sdo_elem_info_array(1,1003,1),
    mdsys.sdo_ordinate_array(

    ), 'mask=ANYINTERACT querytype=WINDOW'
    ) = 'TRUE'
    in SQL*PLUS and it worked fine (retrieved a bunch of geometries)!
    Ran the same query in the Daniel Geringer's OraTest utility and it worked this time and returned:
    TIME : 1.222 seconds, TOTAL FETCH TIME 267 ROWS
    Ran the query with our JCS Query Plug-In and it worked fine!

    it SUCCESSFULLY returns the related geometries!
    So, what can we make of all this? We know that there exists a model for which the SDO_RELATE works via the Java SDO API. This model is a subset (w.r.t. the data set) of our original model in which we detected the "TNS end of communication channel problem". The environment we used for these tests is exactly the same: JDBC Thin driver (version 9.0.1.0.0), Oracle9i Enterprise Edition (Release 9.0.1.2.1 - Production).
    One can think that the problem lies in the Oracle Object-Realational or Oracle Spatial but the fact that we can successfully execute the same SDO_RELATE queries in SQL*PLUS rejects this possibility. Perhaps it depends on the amount of data passed to the JDBC driver and the fashion in which it handles it! In our test above we had RELATED 267 geometries. We know that there exist SDO_RELATE queries that run successfully with modelA, but those are queries which ONLY retrieve an EMPTY set of RELATED geometries. In other words we don't get the "TNS end of communication channel" because NO data gets fetched from the server to the client! As soon as we find a SDO_RELATE query which retrieves (RELATES) at least 1 geometry that runs successfully in SQL*PLUS and run it via the Java SDO API - it FAILS! This means that no matter what volume of data is fetched from the server-JDBCThin-SDOAPI-client as long as there is ANY data, the query FAILS in modelA.
    Perhaps something internally in the Oracle 9i Server happens that prevent the data being fetch to the JDBCThin for that particular modelA. But what that might be?
    Very peculiar problem!

  • Server with java 1.4.2 with jvmstat 2.0 can't monitor app runs as service

    Hi I am pretty new to the java world so hopefully this is the right place for this post. We are trying to get some visibility into our webMethods jvm environment. Our server is running windows 2000 SP4 with sun java 1.4.2 and webMethods integration server 6.1. The webmethods jvm runs as a windows service (ISNTSvc.exe). On our development box I downloaded jvmstat 2.0 and if I start webmethods by using the bat file from command prompt I am able to find the java pid because windows sees it run as java.exe. My question is does anyone know how to use jvmstat 2.0 to find a pid on an application running as a service. I realize it is probably something in the .bat file but I can't run it as a .bat file on production. Any help would be appreciated and please let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi,
    Basically John Baker from the Creator 2 team found the answer to this problem.
    I am usnig a BigDecimal constructor in my application. When I was working with Creator 1, my contsractor looked like:
    seqNum = BigDecimal(0);
    and I was able to deploy and run application on different application servers running jdk 1.4.
    It turned out, that when working with Creator 2 and trying to deploy the application on the same application servers running jdk 1.4, I had to change the constractor to read as:
    seqNum = BigDecimal(0);
    I guess, BigDecimal("0") is more appropriate sintax for jdk 1.4, but somehow, Creator 1 is more forgiving and allows to work with BigDecimal(0) as well.
    Thanks

    I have a problem with running my application with Java Web Start. My main application window is a JFrame and I have a line of code as below
    this.setExtendedState(MAXIMIZED_BOTH);
    It runs fine when run on a PC locally. But if I try to run the application through Java Webstart I get an exception. Can anyone help me with this. I would like the JFrame to open maximized.
    TIA.

    try posting the exception to get better answers. but anyway, i'm guessing its a security issue... your app is trying to access the properties of the local system. you might have to sign your application for this to go away.

  • Up an running with Java. What tools to download?

    Hello, I use to work with Java applications about three years ago, but had switched over to another language. Now I need to develop code using Java again. In fact, I need to reuse some of the code I developed a few years ago. The code does alot with animations. So here is my question.
    "What tools do I need to get up and running with Java?"
    1. What compiler to use (recommend the best open source editor, or one that is not that expensive)?
    2. Where is the Java SDK that I need to download?
    3. Will my three year old code still be compatible with the SUN, Java code I wrote 3 years ago?
    Ralph

    Actually Jwenting is right, IntelliJ is by all measures the best IDE.
    I have used textpad, programmers notepad (which I still use for some things), VIM, eclipse for a number of years, intelliJ for a short time, and Netbeans since earlier this year.
    textpad - Great place to learn the basics, but once the basics are down you need to find an IDE.
    Programmers notepad - love it, still use it for some languages, has some features you will find nowhere else
    VIM - You have your vi lovers and your vi haters, I would say I fall into the haters camp but still keep up with it because when you need an editor to make a quick change on some obscure system with very little on it, some version of Vi will undoubtedly be there. Once you get into the flow it is not bad, but there is lots of annoying things about vi and its offspring.
    Eclipse - Great IDE, was the better of the free ones for a long time. For me eclipse's strength became it's albatross. That is plugins ofcourse. There are literally thousands of plugins that can make eclipse do just about anything you want. The problem is there is very little oversite so some plugins are great, some good, some ok, some suck, and some are deliberately hostile. You don't really know what you are going to get until you try it, but removing it can be a pain so sometimes you are stuck. Plus getting the plugins to play nice with each other can be a chore, the more plugins you have the harder it gets to get new ones to play nice. It was after a whole day stint trying to get eclipse to work again after picking a bad plugin that i simply decided to give netbeans 6.0 a try since it had what I wanted packaged in already.
    IntelliJ - Only got to use this for a short time as they went ahead and bought it at my last job after I gave my months notice for leaving. Guess they figured it would be easier to replace me that way. From the little I got to play with it, it was extremely user friendly to the point of being a pleasure to work with, You definitely got what you paid for.
    Netbeans 6.0 and higher - Netbeans pre 6.0 sucked. Even 5.5 was not as good as eclipse at the time of it's release, but was a sign they were headed in the right direction. After releasing version 4 only to have it suck and laughed at in the java community since eclipse was hundreds of times better Sun realized netbeans was making them look bad. So they decided to fix that and decided the best way to fix it was to model netbeans as closely after IntelliJ (which was the best even back then) as legally possible. With each release they get closer to realizing this goal, and since it is free with each release netbeans picks up more and more former eclipse fanbois. It is now at the point where most people following the eclipse vrs netbeans war will agree that netbeans has taken the lead and has more current users than eclipse. I would even wager that most of the people who said netbeans was best in this thread were not long ago eclipse fans. Bottom line, of the free IDEs netbeans is the better choice at this point.
    But I got to ask, when you say a salary of R8,000 - R12,000 do you mean monthly income or annually? If annually can you even survive on about $1,000 in US dollars for a year? I mean I make about 8 times that in a month, after uncle sam takes his portion, and i wouldn't call myself rich by any means.
    Also jwenting have you tried the newer netbeans? I think if you do you will see they are strikingly similar to IntelliJ in many ways.

    Hi There.
    We had the same problem with some of our code. We moved the definition of the class from a method out of the method. Like this:
    public class{
    class{
    instead of doing this:
    public class{
    method() {
    class{
    This worked with the web start......
    Best regards
