I am running FireFox 3.6 on a secondary computer running XP. I am constantly getting reminders about updating, but warned that my free AVG won't work

It always says that a fix is coming, but never seems to be delivered. I am happy to upgrade to FireFox12 but not until the virus software will work.

AVG will still be working after you update to Firefox 12. 
That message is more likely about ad-ons added by AVG to Firefox. 
Extensions that AVG might add to Firefox may stop working, but we already see a lot of issues reported caused by some of them (e.g. AVG Safe Search) that it may be better to leave them disabled anyway.

Unable to connect.
Firefox is unable to connect to the server at comcast.net.
The computer is a HP Pavilion is Pentium 4 CPU at 2.80 GHz with 1.50GB of RAM.
The operating system is Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 3.
The Harddrive is 143GB with 62.7GB used and 80.7GB free.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

After (or while) running firefox one certain game locks up computer

This occurs with only one specific game. I can play the game after I boot up the computer. If I have run Firefox (or am still running it) then try to sart this game the computer completely locks up and I have to turn the power off to restart the system.

It is 4 hand partnership hand and foot from sac-irca. I solved the problem by checking compatability mode. Now ot works!

I think I have the latest Firefox version, but keep getting messages about updating it. 1 says something is preventing Firefox from updating securely; another says something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update. What's going on?

The 1st message goes on to say, "Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox from http://www.firefox.com." Assuming 4.0.1 is the latest version, it seems this is a bogus message and I haven't clicked on the link.
The 2nd message goes on to say something like, "if this continues [the attempt to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update], contact your network administrator."
I started getting the messages on all 4 of our PC's (2 desktops running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 1 running XP 32-bit, & a laptop running Vista Home Basic 64-bit) after updating to Firefox 4.0 on them. I manually updated to 4.0.1 on all thinking that would stop the messages, but it hasn't.
I loaded & ran free versions of McAfee Stinger, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Super Anti-Spyware programs on all our PCs; each program found & repaired some infected files on each computer, but the messages continue on all.

Apparently this occurs when Firefox has problems with security certificates. There have been a few questions about this. I will try to get advice about this.
Apparently you are using Internet Explorer 9 (From your system details). Do you have Google Updater plugin installed on Firefox ?
(That been implicated in this sort of problem by one poster, and some users with the problem do have Google Updater, but some do not)

I am constantly getting asked to update firefox, which i proceed with and it never seems to quit or turn itself off, should the updat just end automatically and does this mean there is a problem with my computer?

Dear "the-edmeister"- Thanks so much for your response! That's what I wondered, but the site link said Mozilla & Firefox, so I thought I was clicking to the direct site. I went ahead & uninstalled the two Systweak systems that showed up, but I have no idea where all the games are. Then I ran a McAfee scan & for the moment it looks like my computer is o.k. - although I've noticed at least one pop-up suggesting that I run it to "protect" my computer (which I did not do).

My firefox recently updated. Now my pop mail server won't work. I did a 'restore' to last week, and it was fine. It has now auto updated. No mail server.

I have read through several responses to others who are having problems following an update. I am not computer savvy enough to understand half of the recommended 'solutions'. I need clear and definitive instructions of what to do. (Instruction for 'dummies' is what I need.) I can not 'restore' my computer continuously, only to have the auto updates cause the pop mail server to stop working each time. If there is nothing I can do, I guess I will have to stop using Mozilla Firefox. Can you help?

There is no solution for Firefox and POP. Firefox doesn't do email and has no need for a POP email server.
If you are using Firefox to view and send "email", you are accessing a webmail service provider.

I upgraded recently, had the "go back" arrow and favorites/bookmarks-then one day it was gone! I did have the firefox button to get to my bookmarks, but now that is gone too! I am not liking this but hate to go back to using Explorer-what is going on?

All of these changes were within the last week.

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
* If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

When I originally installed Firefox, I installed version 3. When version 4.0 was released, I upgraded. Then, when version 5.0 was released, I upgraded again. But I am still getting notices that there is a new version of 3 and that I need to update. The last time I used the link to update, the update "hung" and failed to complete.

In which folder did you delete updater?
If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
You can delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.

I keep getting popups about updating my browser to firefox 5 then 6 and now 7... Is this a scam?

I am getting popup boxes (no firefox or mozilla logo) saying Firefox beta 5 (at first) then beta version 6, and now beta version 7 are available and asking me to download and install them.
I suspect a pfishing or worse, but some of the functions in my firefox version aren't working quite right now..

Sounds that you are on the beta update channel. 
You can check that by looking at the pref app.update.channel on the about:config page.
If the value of that pref is beta then it is better to download and install the latest Firefox 6.0.x release.

Just downloaded firefox but it constantly says it needs to update but can't AND PEarl Crescent doesn't work - saved JPEG and PNG files apear as gibberish

I have installed / de-installed and re-installed firefox on my mac and have had a lot of problems. When I used my PC I always used firefox but it isn't working on my macbook. Firefox is constnantly looking for upgrades but then doesn't actually upgrade and just gets stuck. I downloaded peal crescent (which worked prior to my de-installing and re-installing) and now all PNG and JPG files don't save properly and seem to come out as gibberish (they do hve .jpg and .png at the end)

Firefox mobile keeps telling me to download add-ons, I need to get FF mobile. But I'm looking for the add-ons on FF mobile. am I missing something still?

It sounds like you are using the Phony add-on to change your User-Agent header. It definitely needs to be set to "Default" for the addons.mozilla.org site to work correctly.
After setting User-Agent to "Default", try going to http://addons.mozilla.org/mobile - you were probably redirected to the wrong section of the site if you originally loaded it with a different User-Agent header.

Error message that Firefox version 5.0 or later is vulnerable to phishing but I am running Firefox 16.0

I get a small box that comes up each time I enter Firefox saying that Firefox 5.0 is vulnerable to phishing and other threats. I am not sure where this message comes from. I have Norton software on the my computer. The box further asks me to update my Firefox to a later version. I check my preferences and I am running Firefox 16.0 the newest version.
I am not sure what to do about this situation.

Fan running at 6200 while ONLY running Firefox

Hi, i tried browsing the forum and from what i could find, people were saying high fan speeds were 3500-4000 and with a lot of activity, maybe over 6000. I am only running Firefox right now and my fans are running at 6200 and my main temp is 70C. Does anyone have any recommendations?

What is your Activity Monitor showing? Firefox averages about 10% CPU power on mine.
