I am running OS 10.4.11 - can I upgrade this iMac to anything more current? I am lost, pls help!

I cannot seem to upgrade browsers until I upgrade OS, but I cannot seem to figure out whether I can actually upgrade OS - what am I missing?

You can get the latest web browser on your machine.
TenFourFox -- It's a port of the latest FireFox to run on older hardware and software.
"World's most advanced web browser. Finely tuned for the Power PC."
--  works for me on 10.4.  Supports 10.5

Turn on pipelining.  This will allow Firefox to make simaltaneous requests to the server.  Chrome has pipeling turned on. Some sites could fail to load with pipeling set on. The site will be old. See "Increase pipelining" in:

Although you can go to 10.7 Lion, I suggest buying 10.6 Snow Leopard which you need anyway.
It seems that you can go to 4GB memory, which may help. If you do want to try Lion, it's not in the online store, but should be available by calling & paying to get a redemption code.
You should check compatibility of any existing software before considering Lion.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Please report back soon.

• "You can't upgrade this version of Mac OS X"

I have a 3 week old MacBook Pro 2.66 (4GB RAM) bought online with the Leopard 10.5.8 Operating System installed. I've tried to install Snow Leopard tonight and it gives me the message "You can't upgrade this version of Mac OS X." How can that be? I've tried the REPAIR DISK option and it says that my internal HDD is OK - in green. Yet I am unable to install the new OS. What gives?

Jeff,
It is possible that you are "stuck in the middle." The build of Snow Leopard resident on the DVD may actually have been "solidified" prior to the build that came with your Mac. As a result, the Snow Leopard installer doesn't "recognize" what is currently running on your Mac. Put another way, it doesn't know how to go about upgrading that installation. Yours is the first case of this that I have seen, if that is indeed what is going on here.
Regardless of the cause, you do not have to "upgrade." You can simply erase what's currently on your Mac and install Snow Leopard. You'll want to have a good Time Machine backup first, of course, and I recommend you find a suitable external drive to do so, if you haven't already.
When you do have that backup, you can boot to the Snow Leopard installer, open Disk Utility to erase the internal hard drive, install Snow Leopard, then use the "Migration Assistant" to bring your user data and account(s) back into the new installation. You probably have not had much time to accumulate a bunch of third-party apps, so having to reinstall those should be no problem. Even if you have found some that you like, keep in mind that all of our user data and settings for those apps will already be back in place, along with your HOME folder(s).
If you need further instructions to complete any of the steps I have outlined, we'll be glad to help.

• I have a older imac and whin i try to update from 10.6.8 i says incompatible can i upgrade the imac to work with mavericks ?

can i upgrade my imac 4,1 to run mavricks ?

No. You can try Lion:
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

Do you mean that you were using the Apple ID which is your ex-MobileMe address? It's still an Apple ID, even though MobileMe itself is dead, and there's nothing to stop you from using it as an ID with Support, or logging in here or in iTunes with it. You should make sure you have a functioning non-Apple email address associated with it.
Did you migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud before 1 August last? If so, you can set up an iCloud account using it, or if you have already set up a new and separate iCloud account you can still log in with it in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars so that it runs alongside your iCloud account.
If you didn't migrate you can still reactivate the address the same way.
Anything where you've logged in with the ex-MobileMe address, such as support for something you registered using it or a server such as iTunes, will need to continue using it.

Copy the content from one computer to another and import the media into iTunes.
Any playlists, playcounts, etc on the computer the content is being moved from will be lost.

I suggest that you post a link to where you got that information so that we can, at least, evaluate whether or not that would be a possibility. I do know on older Macs (pre-Intel) that this was possible ... and that this option was typically provided by vendors other than Apple. However, even it this is possible with your Mac, there are other considerations to take into account than just a CPU change ... like memory, other supportive circuitry, etc.

• Can we replace this SELECT query by more efficient code

can we replace this SELECT query by more efficient code ?:-
SELECT * FROM zv7_custord
         INTO TABLE G_T_ZV7_CUSTORD
WHERE ( SENDER in S_SENDER and
                 ORDNUM in S_ORDER  and

               ( SENDER in S_SENDER AND
                 STATUS = SPACE )
         ORDER BY IDOCNUM.

Hi
U can leave ORDER BY option and sort the table by yourself and try to split the query:
SELECT * FROM zv7_custord
         INTO TABLE G_T_ZV7_CUSTORD
         WHERE  SENDER in S_SENDER and
                       ORDNUM in S_ORDER  and

SELECT * FROM zv7_custord
         APPENDING TABLE G_T_ZV7_CUSTORD
         WHERE  SENDER in S_SENDER        and
                       NOT ORDNUM in S_ORDER  and
                       NOT ZDATE   in S_DATE       and
                       STATUS = SPACE
or
SELECT * FROM zv7_custord
         INTO TABLE G_T_ZV7_CUSTORD
         WHERE  SENDER in S_SENDER and
                       ORDNUM in S_ORDER  and
                       ZDATE   in S_DATE .
SELECT * FROM zv7_custord
         APPENDING TABLE G_T_ZV7_CUSTORD
         WHERE  SENDER in S_SENDER        and
                       STATUS = SPACE.
* Sort the table key fields
SORT G_T_ZV7_CUSTORD BY <KEY1> <KEY2> .....
DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES FROM G_T_ZV7_CUSTORD COMPARING <KEY1> .....
