I am running OS X 10.6.8.  iCloud says to download Lion 10.7.2.  I thought I was running Lion.  Selected software update and it says there is no new software for my system.  How do I know if I am running Lion?

Is 10.6.x Snow Leopard and 10.7.x Lion?

"Selected software update and it says there is no new software for my system."
You already have all the free updates that are pertinent to Snow Leopard. Software Update only finds and installs free updates to your Apple software — it doesn't do anything with upgrades that must be purchased, like Lion. If you were to purchase and install Lion, Software Update would then find and offer to install all the free updates that are applicable to Lion.

Unless you have a backup from which you can restore, yes you will lose all of your data and settings.
You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

Unfortunately, at this point, you must restore the device before you can move on. There is nothing you can do to avoid it now.

I have exactly the same problem.  iPhone 4S, never been jailbroken.  Not behind a firewall and it happens whether I am on my home compute (iTunes) or directly thru Settings_Update.
Looks like loads of people are having the same problem - and as far as I can see, Apple's sole reply is jailbreak or behind firewall/ security settings/anti-virus.  None of those apply here!

  • HT201269 I accidently used the old iPhone 4s, and did not set as a new phone for my 5, now I dont know how to fix it

I got a new phone last month. I just tried to sync it to my computer and I forgot to click on new account,, it synced with my old phone now I dont know how to get my new phone info in here

    Hey philly rose,
It sounds like you accidentally restored your new iPhone 5 with the backup of your iPhone 4S. If you want to return the iPhone 5 to factory settings, and have the option to setup as new, you'll want to restore it with iTunes (omitting the steps about backing up and restoring from backup):

  • HT1338 ok so i know that my computer needs to be updated but I do the software update and it say there are no current updates I have not updated my computer in a long time

ok so I have not updated my computer in a long time and I go to the apple icon in the upper left hand corner of my computer and click on it and then click on softwear updates and it runs and says there are no updates.

You have to buy the next OS X version. Free updates are only available for the version you have. Since you're posting here, assume you want to upgrade to at least OS X 10.6? Or further?
Call the Apple online store, which in the US is at 800-MY-APPLE, or you can also order online from them too. OS X 10.6 is only available on DVD, not download. Get it, install, do Software Updates until no more are available. Done. You probably already have at least 1GB of memory, and some spare disk space to install it. Of course, backup first.
If you want to upgrade to OS X 10.8, see these requirements to see if your system is able to. Note the minimum memory is 2GB, however, 4GB is recommended.  Assuming your system can run Mountain Lion, you can upgrade directly from OS X 10.6 to OS X 10.8. You don't need to upgrade to OS X 10.7 as an interim step. OS X 10.8 is downloadable from the App store.
If you want to upgrade to OS X 10.7, after you upgrade to OS X 10.6, call the online Apple store again to purchase a download code, then download from the App store.

  • HT4463 I have just downloaded something i didnt need i thought i was clicking on something to trial and it turns out it took the money out of my account. I dont want this software and i would like a refund. I dont mind if i get a voucher for itunes.

I wouldn;t mind if i was given a voucher or something i dont want the software and have no need to use it. I understand it is my own fault

    Hi..
Sorry to say but Apple's policy states that, "all sales are final" >  iTUNES STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
But since you made an honest mistake, you can at least ask for a refund.

  • HT1338 My mac mini will not allow me to update itunes with osx mountain lion 10.5. I check for software updates and it says none.

    what shall' I do?

10.5 is not Mountain Lion. You need to find out what release of OS X is on your Mac. Go to >About This Mac and tell me what you see.

  • How do I know if I can run a game?

Hi, I know a Mac isn't ideal for gaming. I dont want answers back saying im an idiot for buying a mac for gaming, because that isnt the case. I just want to know what I am compatible of running though. I know there is the Can I Run it site, but I am not sure if that is always reliable.  ALSO I WILL BE RUNNING WINDOWS 8 VIA BOOTCAMP.
So, by looking at my cpu and gpu, and looking at the requirements for a game, how do i know if i can run it? I would appreciate it if you can tell me if this example will work, but how does the average person know if it will work, by comparing the specs?
    My specs:
    MacBook Pro (Mid-2012)
    RAM: 8GB
CPU:2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz) with 6MB L3 cache
    GPU:Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB & NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
    Here is the game:
    Batman Arkham Origins (recommended settings)
    RAM: 4GB
    CPU: Core i5-750 Quad 2.66GHz
    GPU:GeForce GTX 560
Also, if I meet the minimum requirements for the gpu, but far exceed with the cpu and ram, what does that mean?
And... If one of my graphics cards is 1024MB, does that mean I can run games that require that much memory on the gpu? Even though i know the geforce I have is better.
I am just very confused, someone please clarify, I would really appreciate it.

  • Deploy Software Updates and Applications

    Hi There,
We are running Configuration Manager 2012 SP1.  I would like to setup a deployment that consists of Windows Updates via Software Updates and using Application packages possibly through a Software Task Sequence.  Not sure if it will work.
Has anyone setup something like this?
Or would it better to run separate deployments, one Software Update Deployment and the other an application package? If I deploy both at the same time, would there be an issue?
    Thanks!

If you want to create an ongoing solution that should work for you even after this one occasion, I'd suggest strongly to separate things. Software deployments are one thing and software updates are another thing.
Why would you want to deploy a TS that consists both of these? What's the reason for doing things like that? There will not be any issues if you deploy them at the same time, both will happen.

  • HT201269 My iphone 4 started a software update and half way through stoped.

My iphone 4 started a software update and half way through, I got a software error 6. Now I can't restore my iphone. Can any one help please?
    Cheers Blackcruiser

    Hello Blackcruiser,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:

    Configure your security software
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.
    Common errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
    Best of luck,

  • I performed a software update and the system is installing an update but it has been running for over 24hrs and keeps saying "This may take a few minutes, don't shut down your computer" Can anyone help?

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

  • My mac mini is running slow.  Bought it in 2009.  Activity monitor shows nothing running that should not be.  Someone suggested it might be my operating system?  Check for software updates, and I am current.  Suggestions?

Open Activity Monitor, Show:>All Processes, sort on CPU%, see if anything using too much CPU% when this happens, click on Memory tab, do you have many Pageouts?
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive in Disk Utilty by highlighting the Drive & looking at the bottom of the window.

  • HT1338 How do I get a driver for my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 so that it will run with Mountain LIon?  I tried "Software Update" and says "no update available"

How do I get a driver for my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 so that it will run with Mountain LIon?  I tried "Software Update" and says "no update available".  I contacted Epson and was told all driver updates had to be obtained using "Software Update"?

You will find the latest Epson drivers herehttp://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398.
If you don't find a driver for your printer in the above, then install the Gutenprint drivers. It supports your model.
