I am running OS X ver. 10.5.8. Can I still use TechTool Deluxe ver. 3.1.2 to check integrity of my iMac?

I bought my iMac in Jan. of 2009. I also bought AppleCare at the same time. With AppleCare, I received TechTool Deluxe ver. 3.1.2. The only upgrades to the OS are the ones that Apple provided free. Now I want to start catching up on the OS upgrades, starting with Snow Leopard. I would like to check out my machine before upgrading to Snow Leopard. Can I still use TechTool Deluxe ver. 3.1.2 to do that? I have only used it once before with the assistance of an AppleCare agent. I'm afraid that the free upgrades I have received over the last 3 years, might cause a conflict between my current OS (10.5.8), and TechTool Deluxe ver. 3.1.2.

Now I want to start catching up on the OS upgrades, starting with Snow Leopard.
Make sure your Mac meet's Snow Leopard's requirements >  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
You don't need TechTool in order to check the startup disk. You can verify the disk and repair if necessary using your Mac install disc.
Launch Disk Utility located in /Applications/Utilities.
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
if the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for  Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
While you have the Disk Utility window open, check for Available disk space at the bottom of the window. (Snow Leopard requries 5GB of available space).
Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space. And make sure S.M.A.R.T. status says:  Verified.

    Apple has not made older versions of apps available in the MAS, only the most recent version. Apple constantly reminds folks that they alone are responcible for backing up their content purchases for the very reason that content may not always be available from the MAS in the future.
    To answer your question, no, a license for a particular version of an Apple app does not entitle you to older versions of the app.

    When I try to use Yahoo chat, the popup Window does not display!
    I can use iExplorer to chat.
    This started to happen since last week (Wed. or Thur I believe)
    I tried to disable all the add-ons but nothing. I've set the browser to default and nothing
    I can see someone send me a chat blinking but I can't use it, nothing in conversation history.
    How do I fix this?

    This sounds like a known issue reported here:

    There was a workaround posted, but I've not tested it myself.
    The bug has been resolved in Firefox 10, so you may want to try installing the Beta if you feel it is important enough.

    And take a backup while Firefox is down all of your profiles before hand to an external drive and store offline. It's easy once you've created and used different profiles once. You on a Mac so I can't provide details but you want to backup
    starting with the folder above the one your profile is in. You can find the profile
    you are by typing about:support into the location bar, then click on button "Open Containing Folder" that is your profile but since you will be having multiple profile go up one more director above that and backup that folder.
    Whether you know what do with the backup now is not as important as having them.

    I had all the dot nets in add/remove but discovered they were not installed. Got all up to date. Puter is 2005, I have all that U listed except Win7. I just don't know if I need that or not. Did U say that I need more than the 2.5 GB

    FF is running much better now but Webkinz accounts are still loading slower than in IE. I am wondering if maybe I should totally remove all of FF including customizations and personal info and start over fresh with a clean install of ver 4. I am still using ver 3.6.16. Is it possible that this is reason for Webkinz (a flash, java and Unity game) not loading good? Also, are there some of the Plug-ins that I can remove? What Audio players do I need?     There are serious issues with running it under Yosemite, so far unsolved I am afraid, so you may try in vain. You may consider rolling back the OS, or upgrading (you can still buy CS6 from Adobe).
    Apart from that, remember to first upgrade the OS, then reinstall the applications.

    Could I suggest a workaround for PDFs until a solution is posted? Open them directly in the Adobe application rather than in a browser tab.
    In your Adobe application(s), go to:
    Edit > Preferences > Internet
    Then uncheck "Display PDF in browser"
    (There are very few sites where having PDF integrated is really beneficial.)

    Go to: Apple > System Preferences > Universal Access and in the Seeing tab make sure that the Display Enhance contrast: is set to Normal.
    Alternatly, try holding the  ⌃⌥⌘ (control command alt) keys and then pressing the , (comma) key a few times.

    You can duplicate the iPhoto library (command - D ) and delete everything except the project and its photos from the copy and move that

    However the calendar takes very little space - it is simpy database entries - it is the photos in the calendar that take space - and for most people you would wnat to keep those photos in your library
    you can use a photo in 50 calendars and it still is only one photo in your library - as I explained calenders do not exist as such - they are simply database entries telling iPhotop how to display the calendar - they take almost no space at all

    Recover software as you have described is pretty much your only option - keep in mind that if wait, some of the currently recoverable data may well be over-written and lost.
