I am running OSX 10.8.3,when i try to open iDVD i get the initial screen but when i try to choose an option all i get is 'Downloading Themes' which just continues. I have left it for over an hour?

Where did you get iDVD to put on your Mac? The downloading themes are no longer available from Apple. If you copied it from a Mac that had all the themes look for the iDVD folder on that Mac which should be in the HD/Library/Applications Support folder or the Users/Home/Library/Applications Support folder. Copy it to the HD/Library/Applications Support folder for Mt Lion.
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

Nobody can help you without proper system and version information or other technical details. if the update is botched, then run the cleaner tool and reinstall from scratch.

I see you keep saying that vazandrew on different forums, but there is more going on here than dns settngs and available bandwidth..
i have my dns settings set to the local isp. get 8mbps through speed test.. more often than not i can download an HD movie immediately, and SD movie has no issues at all..
But tonight.. even though as i write this i have disabled all other devices on my network and am still getting my 8mbps downlod from speed test.. Ive just paid for Pacfic Rim.. it played immediately, but got to 46 minutes, and simply stopped.. i backed out resumed play and it bounced to 9 hours before i can watch.. i reset my modem/router, restarted the apple tv and its now currently sitting on 106 hours..
my guess is it's the akamai network doing something stuipid.. this is a regular occurence and if you look deep enough, many people complain of the same issue...
the worst thing about apple is i cant get a refund.. the second worst thing about apple even though im a huge fan, there is absolotely no point me writing this because apples first point of call is to blame the end user and other enviromental factors, meanwhile covering their own ***.. It's hard to give more specifics without more detail, but in general you're going to need to read in the entire file, split it into three pieces (everything before the record of interest, the record itself, and everything after the record of interest), modify the record, reassemble the three pieces in proper order, and write the whole thing back to the file.Of course if the file is very large you might not want to actually implement it this way, but conceptually at least, this is what you are looking at.If this file some sort of proprietary format?Mike...PS: this type of issue is why I really like databases...

We got a HP505B Microtower PC /Windows 7, Every time we try to login to PC and it's been about an hour since PC was unused the mouse is locked up, it wont respond. We've swapped the mouse, plugged on a different USB ports and the same thing happens. Rebooting the PC works, but its a pain to do it more than once a day. Is this happening to anyone else? 3 years ago I bought an IMac Desktop that I am using for a lot of things but the most important for dvd montage in Imovies and Idvd.
Now today when I opened my computer I get as usual the white screen with the Apple symbol but there were all over the screen vertical lines with green pixels and after a while the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer using the power button or the restart button and when I do so each time the same is happening somebody can tell me what is happening and what caused this. This computer is my work and now I have no income anymore.
On the Apple support site they are asking to enter the serial number and when I do so I get message it is wrong but it is the only one I have and I buy this computer in Cairo Egypt. I am living in Hurghada in Egypt for the moment. When I call the technical support of the shop where I buy it they are telling me that it is the hard disk or ram and that I probably lost everything on it and they are asking a big amount to repair.

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
   1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
   2. Press the power button.
   3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
      Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
   4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.

You did not indicate what OS version you are running on your mini, iOS 6 only runs on iPhones and iPads, but if you are using Mountain Lion click on Mission Control on the Dock to see what other Windows are available and what is running in each of them.
The iDVD icon should also appear on the Dock with a small triangle under it to indicate it is running. Click on that icon and even if there is no iDVD window open the iDVD menu should appear in the menu bar at the top of your screen you can then click on Option+Command+H to hide any application windows that may be covering iDVD. Also on the iDVD menu you can click on Window > Bring all to Front.

My keyboard doesn't work from the login screen, but when I login as a guest user it works fine (minus the brightness buttons, playback buttons, etc.).

I've already switched out the batteries and the keyboard works fine, so I fear it might be some sort of bug? All the methods of restarting or resetting certain settings can only be done from the login screen or from within an account, when the keyboard doesn't work, and the guest options are limited to non existent.

Try doing a SMC reset, you may need to do this 2-3 times as sometimes the reset doesn't always "take" the first time. To do a SMC reset, shut down the computer, unplug the power cord from the wall and computer, wait 15-20 seconds and restart normally and test. If after 2-3 resets it still does not work test another keyboard. If that keyboard works then this indicates your keyboard has failed and needs to be replaced.
