I am running xp and the last time I tried to upgrade to Firefox 5 it caused my computer to slow down become unstable and eventually my hard drive crashed.

However I do believe the hard drive had other issues that just might have been further compromised by downloading 5. Talked to a couple of others who have also had bad problems after downloading 5 and that is what really concerns me is that my problem is not isolated. I have just got my computer back up and running and am very concerned about continuing with the 5 upgrade that was automatically downloaded and will be installed the next time I start up. How do I prevent the download from installing upon start up next time until I can get some clearer info on why 5 is causing some problems and can avoid them?

My mother just had this problem. After uninstalling a bunch of search malware, i was still seeing the bing tab come up on start up. The way I fixed this is to delete any shortcuts, remove it from the task bar and the start menu list. It appears this crappy malware modified the firefox and chrome(if installed) shortcuts to open bing.
Of course another way is to modify the shortcuts to remove the link that they added. It was easier for me to remove and just re-pin.
Hopefully that solves your problem too.

Palm Zire 31 sat idle for too long and then my hard drive crashed - I have recovered my palmOne files from the hard drive but don't know how to install to desktop?

Since this product is no longer supported by the manufacturer, I hope that someone out there will be able to help me find a way to get my calendar and contacts restored to the desktop. My handheld sat unused for a very long time, but my desktop calendar and contacts were current up until my hard drive crashed. I was able to recover the PalmOne files from the crashed hard drive but all I can see are *.dat files. When I try to import or restore, the *.dat is not a supported file extension. HELP! I have the original installation CD. Thank you

.dat are the actual working files Palm Desktop is looking for - you can't import them.
Just create a user in Palm Desktop and copy the .dat files (that have more than 1k of data) over the existing address.dat and datebook.dat (or calendar.dat, I forget which existed on your device).

Lost iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD when hard drive crashed.

I owned my iMac since 2007 and my first OS was 10.4. As far back then, my iMac came with iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD already installed. Since 2011, I had OS 10.6 on my iMac. Two weekends ago, my hard drive crashed and lost many applications, including iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD. I still had a copy of 10.6 on a disc and reinstalled it and even updated it to the version I had before my HD crashed. I notice that iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD are not in my computer anymore.
I visited the download section on the Apple website and have found versions of iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD that would be compatable with OS 10.6.8, but for some reason I can't install them. I was able to install iPhoto, but can't open it. I can't even install iDVD. I haven't tried to install iMovie.
Is there any way I can install these applications I lost? I realize purchasing a new copy of iLife is one option, but the version that is out now is not compatable with OS 10.6.8.

These are not applications. They are updaters for the applications.
You will have got a disk with your Mac that had the applications on it. You can reinstall from that.

I have a similar issue. My hard drive crashed, so I had a new one installed and I'm basically starting from scratch on my computer. My iPhone has a lot of my stuff on it (photos and music in particular). When I plugged into iTunes I did a "back up" of my phone to the computer....this transferred the photos in my camera roll, and music purchased through iTunes.
So....I still have a ton of photos (saved in folders, not my camera roll), and music (older stuff not purchased through iTunes) that I want to get to my computer. I am scared to "sync" my phone in iTunes for the first time.....if I do this, will it make my phone match my computer (effectively erasing the stuff on the phone?). What I want is for my computer to match my phone (thus transferring the additional photos and music). Is the third party software the only way?? Does it really work well/is it worth the money? Reset Network settings

My itunes won't update. It's looking for 10.6.0.40. Last time it tried to update, I downloaded the msi to my desktop and I deleted it within the last six months. Now I can't uninstall or update.

Because without thinking, I deleted it within the last six months from my desktop, without thinking I'd need it later. For the past month I've needed to update my Itunes and it can't find the msi. (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Experts, is there a way to know when was the last time a program was run (particularly, Z Program). We are trying to identify obsolete programs and avoid working on those programs that weren't touched for more than 3 years during our next upgrade. How can I find this? One way is to check TRDIR table(se11/se16) and display it. In the next screen once you will get 'Data Browser Table TRDIR' selection screen. There either you put the individual 'Z' program name in the 'Name' field & execute it or for all multiple entries execute it.
Once you execute it with the particular Z prog. name then you will get the required details like CDAT(Created on),UNAM(Last changed by),UDAT(Changed On),SDATE(Standard selection screen generation: Date),IDATE(Selection screen generation: Date) etc.

Your iPhone is in recovery mode-- you need to connect it to your computer and, most likely, iTunes will ask you to restore it. If you recently backed up this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
