I am searching for displacement maps on Photoshop CS5.

Displacement Maps should be inside the Photoshop application, in the Plug-Ins folder. But they are not there. I use PS CS5. If you know where they are, can you help me? Thank you in advance.

In the event you would like to experiment with Displacement Mapping, I have attached a copy of an Information Sheet I wrote for my students.
The Unique Effect of Displacement Mapping
Displacement Mapping is the process of changing the geometry of an image so that such elements, as straight lines, are contoured according to the tones appearing the in image in the layer below it. This is how it is done.
1. Open a file
2. Choose Image > Duplicate. In the As: field enter file name as: filename_map.psd. (Example: man_map.psd). This file, which will ultimately serve as the Displacement Map must be in psd format.
3. Choose Image > Mode > Grayscale.  Increase the image contrast using Curves or Levels. Since each image is unique, there is no exact setting. Then choose Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Once again, there is no set amount. The sample below is a useful guide.
4. Save this file – filename_map.psd -- to the desktop.
5. Open another file consisting of a pattern or type*. Drag that image over the full color image. It will be Layer 1. For the samples below, this was the image that was used. (You may recognize it as the Bayer array camera chip design.)
             * If you choose to use type for Layer 1, it must be rasterized. After typing, choose Layer > Rasterize > Type.
6. Choose Filter > Distort > Displace. The default numbers of 10 for Vertical and Horizontal Scale usually work very well. For greater displacement,15 is satisfactory, as well. Radio buttons should be set to Stretch to Fit and Repeat Pixel Edges. Click OK.
7. Choose a Blend Mode of Multiply or Overlay (the results appear below). Experiment with other Blend Modes, as well. Adjust the opacity of Layer 1 for the most pleasing effect.
8. In the images below, a mask was added to Layer 1 by clicking on the mask symbol at the bottom of the Layers panel. Then, by painting in black on the eyes, that area of the bottom layer was revealed.
In the example below, the same Displacement Map was applied as had been used in the previous example. A light blue Stroke was applied to the rasterized type so that it would be readable against the black background of the image when the 100% Multiply Blending Mode was added, as shown at the bottom/right.

  • For Fun I Installed Photoshop CS5.1 on Windows 8

I am running the Windows 8 Developer Preview in an x64 virtual machine, and it's proving to be an interesting experience...  Microsoft hasn't nearly worked out the weirdness of switching between the Aero desktop and the Metro interface yet.
But anyway, just for grins I installed Photoshop CS5.1 on it.  The Photoshop installer worked its magic in about 10 minutes, and sure enough it comes up and runs.
It's interesting; Photoshop's System Info readout shows "Windows NT"...

  • Which is the best mouse for photo editing in Photoshop CS5?

Hi everyone! Im planning to buy a mouse and can't decide which one would be the best. I have been using Photoshop CS5. Im really into photgraphy, its a new passion of mine. I use a Macbook Pro but I think its time to get a mouse. I know a lot of people think that the tablet is the answer and Im looking into that but I really want to try a mouse first. Thanks for the answers!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I recommend the 15-inch MacBook Pro if you can afford it. That's because Photoshop runs better on a dedicated graphic card, which only the 15-inch MacBook Pro includes, but it should run without any problem on a 13-inch MacBook Pro too

  • Post code search for N82 maps

Does any one know how i can do a post code search in the uk for my nokia maps, it only seems to accept american zip codes. Every post code i tryed didnt work.
    Cheers

If you allow nokia maps to connect to the internet it will search online for detailed information. If you don't allow it to connect it will only search the less detailed info thats included with the maps, this is called searching offline.
When you run nokia maps it should ask you if you want to go online. Yes allows it to connect, no doesn't allow it to connect.
If it doesn't ask you go to options > Tools > Go online
Searching online can incur data charges if data is not included in your tariff.

  • I cannot find any prompt for me to give a serial number for my copy of Photoshop CS5.

I have used CS5 happily on my old computer for about two years but cannot find anywhere on the Adobe site where I might download something other than the Creative Cloud. I do not have nor want a CC membership. Where do I input my serial number so I can start using CS5 on my new computer.

Thee issue is that I can't figure out what to do with the files. I run windows 8 on my PC and there are two files that I've downloaded from that very link, one file is an .exe which is fine I know what to do with that, the other is a file that my computer does not know what to do with. I've launched the .exe but I don't know what to do now.

  • Top Questions for HERE Maps & Drive & Transit

This thread is to share some of the common issues that are being raised in relation to the HERE Maps, HERE Drive and HERE Transit releases.
Currently split in to the following sections:
    HERE Maps for Windows Phone
    HERE Drive for Windows Phone
    HERE Transit for Windows Phone
Nokia Maps & Drive for Symbian
    HERE Maps for Windows Phone
Can I sync my Maps favourites from my Symbian phone to my Windows Phone?
Yes. Just sync the favourites on your Symbian phone with here.com. See the user guide of your Symbian phone for info on how to do this.
Your favourites in here.com are automatically synced with your Windows Phone, if you're signed in to your Nokia account with your phone.
    Does HERE Maps work offline?
Yes, on Windows Phone 8 devices HERE Maps can be used also in offline mode.
With Nokia Maps on the Windows Phone 7 devices you need an online connection. In these devices the map data is streamed on as needed basis and it is not cached.
Can I start Drive navigation from HERE Maps in my Nokia Lumia phone?
Yes, on Windows Phone 8 devices you can start drive navigation from HERE Maps.
On Windows Phone 7 devices you need to go to the Nokia Drive application to start the navigation.
Why can't HERE Maps find my location?
Check that you've allowed HERE Maps and your phone to find your location.
    In HERE Maps
Go to Settings in the HERE Maps app and turn on Use your location
    In your phone settings
In your phone's main menu, tap Settings > location > on.
Things that can affect your GPS signal may include: being indoors, tall buildings, poor weather and some car windscreens. You'll also get a better fix on your location if you've got a data connection.
    HERE Drive for Windows Phone
Can I use HERE Drive without a data connection?
Yes. To use HERE Drive offline, tap Settings and choose Connection. You can then toggle between offline and online.
Search results might be limited in offline mode. To be able to navigate offline, you need to download a map to your phone.
What is the difference between HERE Maps and HERE Drive?
HERE Drive is an application for voice-guided turn-by-turn driving navigation. HERE Maps is a map application which shows your current position and interesting places around you. You can also plan routes in HERE Maps but the app will launch HERE Drive for turn-by-turn navigation
What's the difference between HERE Drive and HERE Drive+?
HERE Drive offers turn-by-turn navigation in a single country or area, depending on the country of your SIM. Worldwide navigation is possible by purchasing an upgrade.
HERE Drive+ is a premium app that comes with worldwide turn-by-turn navigation from the start. You can use it with or without a SIM.
Users of HERE Drive can buy an upgrade to HERE Drive+ through the Windows Phone Store.
    HERE Transit for Windows Phone
How do I install the HERE Transit application in my Windows Phone?
Download and install HERE Transit from Microsoft Store. Start Store in your phone and search for HERE Transit or browse in Nokia collection.
In Windows Phone 7 devices the corresponding app is Nokia Transport and it can be installed from Marketplace.
Why can't HERE Transit find my route?
If you're having trouble getting a route:
Make sure the date, time and time zone on your phone are set properly.
Check that you've got a data connection.
A point in your route might be in a region where no transport info is available.
The route is too long. HERE Transit is designed for use with local city public transport, not national or international transport.
Can I save routes in HERE Transit?
You can pin a journey from your current location as a tile to your Windows Phone start screen.
Select the options icon at the bottom of the screen, and then the pin icon.
Nokia Maps & Drive for Symbian
How do I install Maps 3.09 in my phone?
Maps 3.09 is available for compatible devices as part of the Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 bundle. Installing Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 will install the following applications in your phone:
    Nokia Maps 3.09
    Drive
    Places widget
    Public Transport v2
    Weather (not available in China)
    Guides
Check in (only available in China)
    Map Loader
You can install Nokia Maps Suite on your phone through one of the channels below:
SW Update menu on your phone
Nokia Suite (select Software updates > Applications available)
Nokia Store (search for Nokia Maps Suite 2.0)
When installing via SW Update menu or from Nokia Store, it is recommended to use a Wi-Fi connection or a cellular connection with data plan because a large amount of data will be transferred during the installation. Note that the installation may take a while to complete.
After the installation you can launch the applications from the phone menu. You can add the application widgets also on the home screen (Map Apps, Places nearby).
Can Nokia Maps be used in offline mode to avoid data costs?
Maps can be used offline to avoid data charges, however the following will not be available in Offline Mode:
    View Satellite maps
    View Terrain maps

Access Lonely Planet city guides (Maps 3.03 and later)
Access the Michelin restaurant guide (Maps 3.03 and later)
Synchronize your locations with Nokia Maps on the internet
You can switch between Online and Offline mode by going to the Maps Settings and
    Select Internet or General
Select Connection or Go Online at Start-up
Please Note: Switching between Online and Offline mode in Maps will not prevent data charges through the user of Positioning settings such as AGPS and WiFi/Network positioning. These will need to be turned off in the Positioning Settings on your phone. Please see your phone manual for more information.
How do I know if there is an update available for the map data in Nokia Maps 3.x?
You can check if your device has the latest compatible Map data simply by connecting your device to a PC running Nokia Suite and selecting View > Go To > Maps.
If you are using Mac, download Map Loader for Mac and then check if there's an available update for Map data (applies only for Maps 3.04 and older, version 3.06 and later not supporting Map Loader for Mac).
With Maps 3.06 and later you can check the availability of map data updates and do the update over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection by selecting:
Maps 3.06: Update > Check for updates.
Maps 3.08 and later: Map Loader > Check for updates.
How can I start Drive navigation in Maps 3.08 (and later)?
There is an icon for the Drive application available on your phone's home screen.
You can also start drive navigation from Maps:
    1. Search for the destination.
    2. Select the place on the map and its information area at the top of the screen.
    3. Select Navigate, and Drive here.

Sorry, I'd like to unresolve this. The workaround mentioned is not a solution.
I travel to loads of places by motorcycle, and going off the beaten track is wonderful. Since I upgraded My E6-00 and C7-00 to a Lumia 920, I'm back to allowing the SatNav (phone) to decide where I go. Boring dual carriageways and bypasses are now my natural habitat - bah humbug. Afterall, the phone is in my pocket (safe from weather), headphones in my helmet - I can't constantly look at a map. Having multiple 'favourites' and planning from one to the next isn't workable. Fair enough the Lumia 920 is usable with gloves on (major plus for a biker, come on you marketing people!) but I don't fancy re-routing all the time by the side of a road.
I'm also planning a charity cycle ride over 100s of miles this Summer, and while that can be done in BikeRouteToaster, Google Maps etc, there is no import function into 'HERE' that I can see. It's impossible to plan a route on the device itself. Yes it can route walker (I can't seem to get turn by turn working for that, but nevermind), public transport and car, I have an option to avoid motorways etc, but cycle route planning needs consideration for height metres, unpaved/paved roads (Google StreetView etc used a lot to find a Sustrans route is actually unfit for road bikes) etc. So.. Importing a route planned elsewhere (gpx, kml or something) would be a real alternative, or a workaround. Asking the device to do its own planning from one point to another really isn't workable.
Please make the Nokia's USP an actual USP again?

  • Notebook for use with Photoshop CS5

So I was reading over your post, and even though this is older and has to do with CS5, I have some information for CS6 that will be relevant to your question now that it is time to upgade the software. In general Photoshop has always been more about RAM than Processing power, though that is important too. Until CS5 it could never quite take advantage of what multi-core processors really had to offer, and even the graphics card didn't really effect much of it outside of certain features and the 3D optio
Now that is no longer true and Adobe can effeciently use all aspects of the computer to give you much better performance.
So much so that I was able to buy a brand New ASUS with the following specs:
    Dual Core 2.2GHz Processors
8GB of RAM (4GB original to the machine)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit OS
    320GB HDD w/ 5400RPM
This machine not only runs photoshop CS6 and Launches in less than 5 Seconds... it can run Premier and After Effects as well, and this Laptop cost me less than $400 (on sale at Best Buy 2 Weeks Ago. You don't have to buy something this cheap, but isn't it great that you can and still run Master Collection effectively?
You can read my details on how to buy a Photoshop CS6 Laptop, what specs you need, comparison between Mac and PC and watch the video of my Photoshop Speed Test by reading this article:

  • Photoshop CS5 Flickers Under Windows 8 64

I just upgraded my Win7 64 desktop to Win8 pro 64, and now photoshop cs5 is behaving very strangely. Any mouse click operation causes the entire working window to flicker, and the background to cycle between the normal pale gray background, a window full of transparent pixel rectangles, and solid black. Although functionality is not impaired (i.e., whatever one clicked with the mouse), as you might imagine it's very distracting .
There doesn't appear to be any update from Adobe available within the help menu, so I think I'm up to date on the software.
Has anyone else run into this? Is there a fix? Is this a known incompatibility between CS5 and Win8 64? I spent hours searching online before I did the Win8 upgrade looking for compatibility information on photoshop cs5 (and the rest of the cs5 master suite) but found very little information.

    Noel Carboni wrote:
Out of curiosity, what compelled you to buy Windows 8?
It is not a Windows 8 discussion, but since you asked -- I bought an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.99 during Microsoft's promotional period. I think it was quite a compelling reason to buy a pro version of the latest OS for that price. Like it or not, Windows 7 is now 3 years old. But, hey, there're still people running XP
Also someone asked about reasons for upgrading to Windows 8. Here's mine:
    1. Built-in anti-virus, improved firewall and overall security features on the kernel level. Stuff like, improved Windows drivers security, boot loader, etc.
    2. Improved performance -- anything from less number of running system services to a better RAM utilization. I can attest to that. Same stuff runs faster. Also much faster boot time as well as entering and leaving sleep modes.
    3. Improved Solid State Drive support "out-of-the-box". No additional set-up needed.
    4. Much improved Windows Explorer. (One of the compelling reasons for me.) They returned its toolbar that was taken out in Vista and made it optional. Also made it look more like Office ribbon, which everyone is familiar with by now.
    5. Much improved Task Manager. It adds a ton of useful features for a more geeky kind.
    6. Less intrusive Windows updates. No more annoying popups telling you to reboot. You get a message on the lock screen and everything is installed during a reboot.
    7. Much improved ways to create and do system recovery.
    8. Other small tools and utilities that are very useful and are now in one place. Stuff like creation of backups and restore discs, etc.
I won't go any more into it because it is not a Windows 8 discussion. The bottom line is that all of my apps that used to work in Windows 7 seem to work just fine in Windows 8... except the Adobe CS 5 products. So you do the math... I understand that It's always easy to blame the OS maker or a driver maker. Although I do agree with you on one thing -- it is probably wise to wait until a Service Pack comes out. And it is not just because Microsoft would fix its bugs, it's mostly because all of the OEMs and software vendors will catch up to the new technologies.

  • How to create a Contact Sheet with Adobe Photoshop CS5 from a disc with images in different folders

I got a disc with images files (mainly ai and psd files) in different folders and subfolders, how can I create a contact sheet including all the image files in different folders. (It seems that Adobe Bridge can only create a contact sheet by clicking the image files directly but not a folder including the images files)
    thx!

Use the optional Contact Sheet II plugin which is found in Adobe's Downloads:
    1) search for contact sheet in PS CS5 help
    2) choose the first result and read carefully about the Photoshop Optional Plug-In Picture Packager
    3) follow the instructions to download the zip file and note the location that you download it to.
    4) follow the instructions to install the files.
I'm not sure how PS CS5 will handle ai vector image files or if you have to batch convert them to raster images first before using Contact Sheet II.  Contact Sheet II allows you to choose a folder and Include All SubFolders as an option so you could create a Contact Sheet folder and copy all of your desired folders into that folder which will become subfolders of the main folder you choose for your contact sheet.

  • I can't patch Photoshop CS5

The Adobe Application Manager says that I have updates for my copy of Photoshop CS5 and Elements 9. But when I run the update it says, “there was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
If I click on the customer support link it tells me this, “Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product..." when installing an upgrade or upsell
But I am not try to get an upgrade, only to install the latest updates for my product. Why isn't this working?
I have also tried to downloading the zip file for the 12.0.4 patch but that just gives me an “Error loading Updater workflow,” when I try to use the AdobePatchInstaller.exe.
I tried to get help from the support chat, but she said because it wasn't the current version she could not help me, and pointed me to the forums.
So can anyone help me here? I have no idea why this isn't working. I am very irritated by this hassle.
But other than this patching issue, Photoshop CS5 is working fine.

Hi, You may try updating the application manually Hope this helps.

  • Photoshop CS5.1 Extended 64 bit suddenly stops loading psd files

For some reason the Photoshop CS5.1 that I have installed on my Windows 7 64b has stopped working.  It still works on my other computer though.  It starts up just fine, but when I go to Open a PSD file (which I have edited here before) nothing happens -- absolutely nothing!  When I try to create a new file the same nothing happens.  Can somebody give me a clue?  I sure hope I don't have to reinstall or something.  I don't think I've made any updates to Photoshop, it just stopped working this week for no apparent reason that I can think of.
I also went back and tried my CS5 version and the same thing happens.

To further what Chris mentioned about documents opening on another monitor that doesn't happen to be powered-up right now...
When you get this situation, if you press the Arrange Documents button at the top and click the Consolidate All button, what do you see?

  • Photoshop CS5 is a failure / inability to search forum for solutions

Well, since the search funtion doesn't work for the forums, I'll just have to post my problems and see if anyone from Adobe is listening, haha.
Photoshop CS5 creates repeating 1 to 2 pixel thick lines through images in pdfs when I rip them open. You've gotta be kidding me.
Photoshop CS3 does not do this with the exact same pdfs.
Photoshop CS5 does not allow me to view changes in layer image adjustments before commiting to the adjustments, requiring me to use the "history" to work backward as I am making changes to all 4 colors in a CMYK image. You've REALLY gotta be kidding me.
Photoshop CS3 allows me to view changes, and look at what I had before the changes, merely by clicking the "preview" button on and off, before committing to the changes. A beautiful feature for anyone adjusting the color of an image, which, i would think, is the number 1 reason for using Photoshop in the first place.
These are 2 MAJOR FLAWS after using the product for only a few days. It's no wonder I waited for over a year before upgrading.
So far, the only thing that is an improvement over CS3 is that it quits faster.
Thank god for that and good riddance.
I am a prepress professional and will NOT be recommending this product upgrade to my fellow users. One can only guess at who was attending the meetings where someone from marketing said, "Oh, how can we change something that works fine and justify an upgrade?"It's straight out of a Dilbert cartoon.
    I'm very very disappointed.

If you want to give it a try, paste the following text into a new file in ExtendScript Toolkit (part of Photoshop’s installation, Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/ExtendScript Toolkit CS4 or /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities-CS5/ExtendScript Toolkit CS5) and save it as a jsx-file into Photoshop’s Presets/Scripts-folder.
After restarting Photoshop the Script should be available under File > Scripts and can be assigned a Keyboard Shortcut directly, recorded into an Action, (in CS4 and CS5) be used in a Configurator-Panel or started from ExtendScript Toolkit directly.

  • Searching for a page in the site map

Hi all! I'm using an older version of Dreamweaver... MX. I'm
hoping there's a way to do a search for a specific page using the
site map. I have some out-dated pages on a HUGE website I'm trying
to clean up for a local organization. I did a search for orphans,
and they were not listed. Therefore I know they are somehow still
linked to other pages. So I can't just delete them. I need to
update the links. I did this on my local drive, but I need to do it
on the server, as I realized I can't replace all pages on the
server (others have access to it too). Does that make sense?
Anyway, let me know if I can search using the site map for specific
    pages. Thanks!
    Julie

Do a sitewide find for the filenames. That'll tell you which
    other pages
    link to them.
