It means you will get a refurbished iPhone in exchange for the faulty one you sent in.

  • When I plug my iPhone into my computer to sync my iTunes I get a message that says "iTunes cannot read the content of the iPhone" and wants me to restore my phone back to factory settings. Any suggestions so that I don't have to restore?

When I plug my iPhone into my computer to sync my iTunes I get a message that says "iTunes cannot read the content of the iPhone" and wants me to restore my phone back to factory settings. Any suggestions so that I don't have to restore? I have all of my stuff backed up on iCloud but I really don't want to go through the hassle of wiping it clean and putting everything back on.

This is a post from a user named edgar999 and it worked PERFECTLY:
"OK - this is how it works:
In order to backup from iCloud you cannot use iTunes!
Therefore disconnect your device from your computer.
Turn on your device and go to Settings and then go to General.
At the bottom of this submenu there is a buttom "Reset"
If you push that buttom you see 6 different Erase settings to chose from!
Chose "Erase All Content and Settings" because this will wipe everything from your device and will let you restore from iCloud!  (I tried the top "Reset All Settings" but that did not let me use iClouds afterwards!)
Once you pushed that buttom your device will be wiped clean and after some time you will see the Device Welcome Screen like on a new device!
After choosing your location you will be asked to setup your WiFi-conection. After  you joint to your Wifi you will be given the choice to restore the iPad from a backup from the iCloud. Choosing this backup will prompt you with your apple ID and password.
Restoring from a backup can take some time.  The process uses your Wi-Fi connection to download settings, content and data.  If you had a lot of content on your device, this can take a while.  The restore screen should give you estimates at each stage of the restore process, starting with restoring the settings and then booting into the iPad.  When the iPad home screen appears, the device will continue the restore process by downloading all of your applications.
If you are restoring from a backup because you have run into problems with your device that can only be solved by restoring it, you can first choose your latest backup. If you still have problems, you can move on to the next latest backup, repeating the process until (hopefully) the problem is cleared."
    THANK YOU edgar999!!!!

  • My iPhone 4s was stolen this weekend and I did the Remote Lock.  What exactly does that do?  Also, if i do the Remote Wipe will that erase all of my data and impede anyone from ever using the phone?

The remote lock locks the iphone with a passcode that you set. By remote wiping the device it will simply restore it and clear it of all its data, but by doing this it will prevent you tracking it and communicating with it (e.g. remote locking it) in the future

It all depends on the definition of "factory unlocked". If the phone was purchased directly from Apple and the receipt says "Unlocked" then updating or restoring it will leave it unlocked (Apple never uses the term "factory unlocked" as there is no such thing; phones are unlocked at activation time). Similarly, if it had been locked to a carrier and the carrier authorized it to be unlocked, and you went through the unlocking steps they provided, it is permanently unlocked.
Unfortunately, a lot of the phones sold as "factory unlocked" were actually unlocked by hacking in the "factory" in the basement of some shop somewhere. These phones at best will become locked to the original carrier if restored, and in the worst case will be permanently disabled if restored.

  • If I restore my iPhone to factory settings, will I loose my texts?

If I restore my iPhone to factory settings, will I loose my texts?

OneLuckyWoman in order to avoid this please backup your iPhone in iTunes.
Follow the steps in this article to backup your iPhone in iTunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Once you've done that, you will need to restore from that backup which this article tells you how to do. And than your text messages will be restored as well. I hope this helps. If you have any questions please just let me know.

I think it's trying to open it in a gMail eMail & is losing your gMail password that it needs log into gMail, but not 100% positive.
Have you tried Right clicking or Control+click on the eMail link & choose Copy? Works on some, not others.

  • When I try to sync my iPhone 4s it no longer works.  I have a bunch of songs that now show up on my iPhone with a red circle with a box inside of it and they won't play, yet I can find them and play them on my Mac.  What do I do?

My iphone 4s will no longer sync music from my music library on my Macbook Pro.  I also have a bunch of songs that now have a red circle with a box in it next to the song on my phone and those songs will not play.  They are present in my itunes library and I can play them on my Mac but they will not play on my iphone.  I have tried unchecking all the music and applying those changes and syncing and it does nothing.  All the same music remains on my phone, unchanged.  Help! What do I do? I have read to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it but will I lose all my music?

    Hello Courtney,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when syncing your music to your iPhone.  It sounds like iTunes is not able to locate the original file for the song to transfer it to your device.  I recommend reviewing the following articles to locate you music files on your computer:

  • ITunes cannot read contents of my iPhone 5 and keeps prompting me to restore it to factory settings

Every time I plug my iPhone 5 into my Windows computer, it comes up with a box saying that the contents of my phone cannot be read, and prompts me to restore my iPhone to factory settings. The phone itself continues to be working fine, but I can't sync anything onto my phone through iTunes. My last iPhone backup was about 3 weeks ago, so I'm worried that I will lose a fair bit of data if I go ahead with a full reset. I've already tried holding down the home button and on/off button on my phone until the Apple logo appears, as well as restarting my computer, both nothing has changed. Can anybody help me out? Thanks!

A 3-week-old Backup is going to have to be good enough at this point.  You should do a Reset and expect to loose any personal data not in your Backup.  Anything you have recently purchased from the App Store or from iTunes will still be available to re-download in that you already have paid for them.

  • MY iphone 5 do not start after putting it back on factory settings

Which button combination do i have to push for restart my iphone on factory settings?

    Hello Viktor,
I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on.  I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

If you think your iPhone is working, then it's because you're an idiot who doesn't know how to make or receive a phone call properly.
Unfortunately many posts of people who claim to have no issues with their 3G iPhones sound pretty much the same.
"If my iPhone 3G is working, then nobody can have one that is not."
"If you think your iPhone is NOT working, then it's because you're an idiot who doesn't know how to make or receive a phone call properly."
"If you think your iPhone is NOT working, then it's because you're an idiot who doesn't know squat about cell networks and 3G.
Please note, this is not aimed at you, but a general observation.
If their Iphone 3Gs work great then all of them have to work great and those of us who have a really bad iPhone 3G experience are just too dense to use them, are one the wrong network, clueless about 3G or generally just technologically challenged dimwits who don't understand neither the wonderful world of 3G nor how beautifully the iPhone 3G works, even when it doesn't.
Again, I had more dropped and failed calls with the iPhone 3G in four hours than I had with My Nokia 6280 on the same 3G network in almost two years. The network is also very clearly not overloaded, since I never had another another dropped or failed call after yanking SIM card out of the IDoorStop 3G and putting it back into the Nokia.
