I am sick to my stomach. I just wiped my wife's iphone...and lost everything.
My wife has an iPhone 4. I brought it to the Mac Store a few weeks back and they hooked it up to my computer and copied her files to my harddrive. They told me that it would be the same to plug it into HER Macbook and copy her files over.
Today, when I plugged it in, the options were as follows:
1) set up new iphone. (it's not a new iphone)
2) The other option said to copy her iphone.
I asked myself..."if I am wrong, they will give me some sort of warning, right?"
Nope, I clicked the button and now my wife's entire phone is WIPED!
We have a new baby. There were about 600 pictures. There were about 100 videos. They are gone.
I feel like I am dreaming here. This doesn't seem real. I've heard of stories like this, but I figured the people were idiots. Did I really just lose all of these memories without any way to retreive them???? There is really no "are you sure" option? There is no "cancel" button?
This is like that commerical about the lost iphone with all the memories....except there are no getting them back.
Does ANYBODY HAVE GOOD news to come out of this for me? I am shaking here. This is horrible.
If you open iTunes on her computer, go to Preferences>Devices, do you see a backup listed? Is it from before you did this "wipe"? If so, you may be able to restore from that backup. However, if her computer saw the iPhone as a new device and you set it up as such, then it would have wiped over everything. Sorry about that.
What files did Apple copy over to your computer? What is still there? If you open iTunes on your computer, is there a backup of the phone from that date? Were all of these pictures and videos done before or after you were at Apple? Did they try and import the photos/videos to your computer?

I would advise that you not set up a second Apple ID. It's really not necessary - having two Apple IDs won't affect how iTunes works with your iPads - and will just complicate matters. Each iPad will be treated independently and can be set to sync only the items you want on that particular iPad. If you really want to keep the two iPads separate, set up different iTunes libraries and have only those items you want on the related iPad in that library, rather than a different Apple ID. If you plan not to use a computer and just download directly to the iPads, you can again choose what apps and content each iPad gets.
But answering your specific question, you can have content from up to five iTunes Store accounts on any one computer or iPad. To create a new iTunes Store account, you'll need a different email address, and from there you just create the account the same way you did the first one.

I just installed Icloud on my Iphone and PC (all versions of updates as required). I checked mail, calendar and tasks to be synced.The Outlook calendar shows an I cloud calendar but none of the events on my phone calendar. Email from the phonre and pc are not syncinh wither. The phone shows an Icloud inbox. What do I do to get items to sync?.

What you've outlined in this part of the post is all that icloud stores for you outside of the backup. If you want to restore from the icloud backup you will then have for all practical purposes a carbon restoration back to your device if you restore from the icloud backup.

Syncing your device with itunes will then enable you to remove whatever photos you wish to remove from your device deleting them with the computer and not the iphone. -

It does make sense. The iPhone is a one-person device and just syncs to one computer.
The way it should work is as follows:
Old computer content ---> New computer
New computer <---> syncs to iPhone
But the way you are trying to operate sounds like:
Old computer content ---> iPhone
... and ...
New computer content <---> iPhone
So simply move your old stuff (either directly from iTunes, or from a computer backup) to the new computer, have it all there, then sync your iPhone to the new machine. -
Will reinstalling Lion via the Lion recovery partition cause you to loose all of your applications, documents, etc or does it just replace the Lion operating system and leave everything else untouched?
The latter. I cant tell you how many times I've reinstalled lion! all your apps will be fine!
Things that will change are system graphics if you altered them with something like candybar or did it manually.
Having said that, you should always backup your stuff with time machine incase something does happen.
This is a very important step which will insure the safety of your files while doing things like updating or installing the OS.
Please exercise caution when doing things with a Hard Drive. -
Now my friend just facetimed me on my iPhone and it showed up as a missed call on my iPad also, ?

I have an iPhone and sync it with iTunes. Just got my wife an iPhone also. Is it possible to have 2 accounts in iTunes 1 for my wife and 1 for myself? I don't want to mess up things like contacts on either phone.
The best is to create another Windows user profile(additional User Account) where each one of you can manage your own account, library, playlist Apps, Contacts etc,

Just brought my daughter an iphone and have her setup on my ID. Want to be able to see her messages and photos but dont want my info to appear on her phone. How do i stop the messages from appearing on her phone?
If you have set up photo stream, this can't be done. As soon as you switch off photo stream on her device to keep your photos from coming to her device, you won't get any as well from her. Same for messages, you can't have both, sorry.
Maybe look into the family sharing feature if you want the photos to be shared:

You should be storing everything on your computer and you should always backup your computer. Have you failed to do these things?

My iPad2 will not work on my home wi-fi. My iPhone, my wife's iPhone and iPad all work just not my iPad. It will however work when I set up a hot spot on my iPhone. Any ideas?
Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds.
On your iPad use Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings
If you need more help please give the make, model and version of the WiFi router that you are using.
Does your router have the latest firmware from the manufacturer installed?

Here is the breakdown. I just bought my wife a new iPhone 4s and I'm trying to decide how to set it up for her. Should she have her own Apple ID or use mine? If she uses my Apple ID, will that cause issues with iMessage - say when I'm chatting with someone else and vice a versa. Will our messages show up on each others devices? How will a FaceTime call work? Will the video call come across both our devices (ipad also)?

What am I trying to achieve is having the ability for me (iphone, ipad) and my wife (iphone) to be able to share and sync just music, apps, movies, etc... I have Google Calender and I have not made up my mind yet if we will share a contacts list (I have large business list). Also this might be of note, I most likely will be using iTunes on my LG LCD TV (appleTV) at some point in the near future.
So, basically I'm confused, which is not unusual for me. If I'm thinking to much inside the box, please let me know and feel free to offer up any suggestions. Even if the suggestion is I'm not asking the right questions. Of course if that is your suggestion, then please tell me the question. And an answer would be nice to.

BentleyNo it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.
