If using a mouse, you can right click on the application installer this will give you an "Open with" popup and you can chooes to open the application installer using the standard installer.
Another method to do the same exact thing is to hold the Control key while left clicking on the Application installer will give you the exact same popup menu.

When I click on a file, the downloads box opens and depending on the setting, it auto saves the file or asks me where to save the file. Thanks so much! That was exactly the answer I needed. When my I-Pad froze yesterday, I called an Apple Store near me and spoke with a tech. He walked me through the steps necessary to unfreeze it. When I asked what might cause this, he said having too many apps open can be the culprit. I thought merely shutting my I-Pad off, automatically closed the apps too. Not so. He then explained the steps necessary to accomplish this, but I forgot which buttons to push. He also suggested doing this at the end of every day as one way to avoid the "freeze". Since I didn't know this little trick, and have had my I-Pad for over a year, I had quite a few apps to close. So, thanks again and I'll write down the steps this time.

How do you close apps in iOS 7. The way I use to do it doesn't work any more and it is reducing my useful battery life

Double tap on the home key, it brings up a line of apps with little screen shots hovering over them. Flip the screen up, kinda of like you're flipping those apps off your screen.
When you're done just press the home key once to exit the mode.
As to battery issues, poke around in the notifications. There's a lot of stuff defaulted to on that you may not need. Also look to the background updating of apps. Background updating of weather and stocks is defaulted to on, which means it's continually going out to update. May not be something you need.

I am unwilling to attempt navigation away from these sites. The pop-ups that occur on the attempt to leave a site or to close the browser are exit traps offering incentive to stay.
Once upon a time, when the internet was less dangerous, I would be willing to close the exit pop-ups. Now, after twice being infected with malware trying to close the pop-ups, I now force close whichever browser I am using.
Recently, I clicked on the red X to close one pop-up, and it installed a trojan that I had to pay to be removed. If so, you could use Go to Computer to find it if it is not in the Sidebar or on the Desktop. Ctrl-click or Right-click on the drive and choose Eject <diskname>
Or, you could set it to show in the SideBar in the Finder Preferences, SideBar tab. Then, it would have an eject icon next to it in the Sidebar.

Ziatron is correct that Flash does not work on an iPad, but it does work on a Mac. See Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.160.

how do you close   the open events folders in i move events library so that the are in a folder on the lhs in the events library as shown in the help page " organising events in the events library"

my version is I MOVIE 11 VERSION 9.0.9 , 1795..
i am downloading the video clips via camera card to i photo ( not by connecting camera and importing) . the video clips appear in the i photo folder alongside the still images but then automatically import to i movie when you open i movie   next time and select last import   in the events library > i photos and select the update thumbnails box which appears .
i want the folders   with the video clips to list in the events library on the LHS in folders   and not   be all open on th RHS.
any ideas /
