iMac G5 - you are at the end of the line, though you may be able to upgrade your RAM, or hard drive.
iMac CoreSolo, CoreDuo - you can upgrade to 1 GB of RAM or 2 GB of RAM and get up to 10.6.8.
iMac Core2Duo - you can upgrade to 2 GB of RAM or more and get up to 10.7.2.
Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to determine which Mac model you have.
Here's what you have to watch out for on 10.6 to 10.6.8.
Here's what you need to watch out for on 10.7 to 10.7.2.
Some stores may not have 10.6 installer CD available, or may not have 10.7 Flash drive available. For those you have to make the purchase from elsewhere,
and bring it in to the store with you. http://www.apple.com/retail has phone numbers for all their stores, and extension 5 often will get you a real person at the store, though if yuo don't get it, you might try a different extension.

to take the recurring message at its word, the cause of insufficient application memory is that a particular app requires more free RAM than is currently available, and the remedy would be providing it with more free RAM, either by closing other opened apps or by upgrading the amount of RAM in your MacBook Pro. -
Hi, I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro but cant get the mirroring function to work with Apple TV. I've got the most recent Software 10.7.5 but cant see the mirroring icon or turn this on. I'm able to mirror from my Ipad but not my Mac, any thoughts?

AirPlay Mirroring is supported on your Mac, but it needs OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
You have two possibilities:
1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion to upgrade to this OS X. Then, you will find the AirPlay Mirroring icon at the top right of the display, on the menu bar, or on System Preferences > Displays.
2. Keep OS X Lion and use AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com
Both options work properly, but I recommend AirPlay Mirroring as it doesn't need a third-party program -

How can I convert my Open Source document files into Word document files? I cannot download Pages since my Macbook Air does not have the most recent software. I downloaded open office to my mac to try and save money. It worked well for a while. Now I get this pop-up message that asks me to "Reopen" and when I select the option, nothing happens. I cannot save my documents anymore and I cannot convert them to word. Help!

You have 17 options to save as in Open Office, one of which is .doc files, yes it needs to be saved manually.
You may be able to default to DOC, but have not tried same.
Since Open Office is 99% same as Word, I use it, or Word, either one. Open Office is a bit less buggy than Word 11' -
i dont even know if im in the right community.
anyway, the thing im having trouble with is syncing my notes. im pretty sure i have the most recent software for the iphone 3, i think. however, i've never been able to sync notes from the iphone to my laptop. i havent even had the option before. i do now, but on the info tab for my iphone, the one that pops up when it's plugged into the laptop, it has the option to check the box next to sync notes with... however, there's nothing on the drop down menu, so even with the sync notes with.. option selected, nothing happens.
i have 350+ notes, so emailing them to myself is out of the question. any help would be much appreciated!!I deauthorized and then reauthorized my iTunes and this seems to have done the trick!

A really recent MacBook Pro would be running Lion, Mac OS 10.7, and the most recent update is 10.7.3. The delta update from 10.7.2 was found to cause problems and rather than fix them, the update was pulled and Lion users were directed to the "combo" updater which contained all the code necessary to update any Mac running Lion from any previous version of Lion, which is a lot of code, hence the very big download. BTW, 10.7.3 has been problematic for some software so it would be wise to explore the comments and complaints in the Lion forum before you update since you can't go back if you change your mind without having a good backup. Also BTW, this forum is for the Mac Pro; you have a MacBook Pro, which has its own forum and can probably provide you with more useful information. -

Hey guys so i just recently piced up an 07 macbook for the time being till i can afford to buy a new one. Right now its running os x 10.5.8. Basically ive read tht you can not skip any updates, is this right? I know 10.6 is the next step up upgrade wise, and i cant seem to find it on the internet anywhere? Pls help me. Can i skip 10.6 and upgrade higher right away or wht? Wht do i need to do and where can i find the updates?
OS X 10.6 comes in the form of a physical CD. You could start by calling your local Apple store and seeing if they still have any.

How can I get the phone numbers in contacts to appear with dashes between the first 3 numbers, the next 3 numbers, and the last 4 numbers? Until very recently
it did so. Contacts on my macbook pro does show up this way. I do have a mobile me account and in the past syncing was no problem. What setting has changed?The phone number format as well as the date language and format and the time format are controlled by the Region Format setting. Go to Settings > General >International > Region Format. When you change a region format, you can go back one page (to International) and see an example of the date/time/phone number format that your selected region format will produce.

If you can log in blindly or using the flashlight method, it is possible your screen brightness somehow got set all the way to nothing. I don't have my Macbook with me right now to test it out but I believe it may not be possible to adjust the brightness at the log-in screen so you have to be able to log in first (though I could be wrong on that).
