I am such a novice its beyond a joke, now I can find pics

I had a great section of photos which I made slide shows for and viewed with my choice of music and life was wonderful. I know I did not trash them, but in setting up new ibook G4, setting up router and sync with imac g5, this particular batch has gone. I have seared I think every file,location on ibook and imac but not anywhere. I first had a trial mac account befoe I got the g4 in December and pictures were still there mid January. But it might be the same time my trial ended though I got a mac account mid-december. I don't think the account has anything to do with it, but I might have saved the batch to the temprary mac trial account. I am hoping they are just hidden somewhere. Any suggestions,pleasssssssssse.

Comcast should provide a cable modem and an Ethernet cable. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the cable modem output and the other end into the WAN port on the Extreme. Where are you trying to log in? You should be able to change your ID at http://appleid.apple.com - can you log in there?
Before you change your ID you should log out of the iTunes Store and on any devices which are logged into iCloud. Then once you've changed it you can log back in with the new ID. (Your iCloud synced data will disappear from the device when you do this but will reappear when you sign back in - give it time).
If you are unable to sign into http://appleid.apple.com you will need to contact Support. Go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com . Click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'. Have you tried restoring your iPod, this will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings so make sure you have all your songs backed up in iTunes. Once the restore is complete a fresh installation should update from iTunes: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings

I unzipped an email zip file in Winzip and its a PDF. Now, I can't get it intoo Adobe to get it into Adobe to see the PDF.

Now I've no sound ... beyond a joke now.

I've been happily using JBL Creature II speakers for a couple of months now. I turned on the iMac from sleep this morning to find that I have NO sound when I play iTunes. If I unplug the jack, I get sound from the system speaker, but upon reconnecting the jack for the JBL's, nothing. I plugged in a set of Sennheiser headphones (big can ones) I own, nothing coming from them. Has my audio jack socket gone? The lights on the Creatures are lit, so everything is connected fine.
I created another user with Admin permissions, still no joy.
I'm beginning to lose the rag now.

I checked the capacitors because I had some small graphic glitches.
By glitches I mean that when I went to click on an file while browsing the contents of a DVD-R, they disappeared when I clicked on them. I could only click and load the file (all video files of TV shows) once I'd ejected the disc and reinserted it again.
The other "glitch" was two white lines on the bottom right side of the screen which looked like this: - -
They were exactly that size and were down where the trashcan is on my Dock. After rebooting, they disappeared and have not been back, but since reading that Rev A machines seem to be fault ridden, all I do is panic when I see something even slightly resembling what I've read about on here.
Thankfully though, at present, everything seems to be running smooth and 100%.

Getting beyond a joke now

I've had this problem since I moved in. I'm paying top whack for this and my speeds are below. The cabinet I'm on was set for Openreach upgrade in July 14 but this has since slipped to 'unknown'. Unfortunately there are no fibre suppliers in my area or I'd be off. I had faster internet 14 years ago the ping response is particuarly poor!
Hope someone can explain why my speed is so abysmal and if there's anything I can do.

From the dslchecker your estimate is about 1mb and your connection speed is anout the estimate. You are are a long way from the exchange and the result is low broadband speed - this will be the same regardless of ISP you chose
have you tried connecting to test socket and see if that makes any improvement in your conenction?
try quiet line test. Dial 17070 option 2. Should be quiet and best with corded phone. If cordless then dull hum normal

Disable anti virus software.
Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading including Mountain Lion as well as third party download managers.
Keep in mind, for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.

Some f___ing program change my FireFox home page which was set-up just the way I work and the way I like. I once wrote down the URL so if this happened again I could just type it in and then drag the URL over to the little house and it would restore my page. Now I can't find the URL, its bee so long since I used and now I'm stuck. I have lost all my items as I had them set-up. Any help in finding that old URL would be most appreciated.

Can you remember what that page looked like?
Was this a customized Google or Yahoo page?
You can check the History (History > Show All History) and possibly the cache (about:cache) to see if some page looks familiar.
