I am switching to a new computer.  Itunes doesn't detect my ipod

I am swithching to a new computer and iTunes doesn't detect my iPod.  I have loaded iTunes on the computer along with all my music and play lists.  When I connect my Pod to the system, the computer recognizes it but iTunes doesn't.

OK,  I was able to get iTunes o recognize my iPod touch using the following procedures:

But, I can't sync the iPod to iTunes on the new computer.

  • My iPod Classic says to Use iTunes to Restore but whenever I plug in my iPod into my computer, iTunes doesn't detect it and while it's plugged in and not connecting, it just says "Do not Disconnect" with a 'no' sign blinking. PLEASE HELP!!

I've already tried putting it into Disk Mode but nothing happens. Tried restarting computer and a new USB cord but still not working!
    PLEASE HELP!

Already tried another USB port, still nothing.
I don't have another PC to check, I only have one which is the one not working with my iPod.
It appears under my Computer, just not under iTunes. Plus, the iPod classic troubleshooting assistant doesn't work because I can't restore since it can't come up onto my iTunes! Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.

  • My Computer/iTunes does not detect my iPod -- week long problem

I have been trying so many different things. the 5 R's. Reinstalling USB Mass storage device driver. Tried the C:\Windows\INF directory for updating the driver for the iPod under device manager. Reinstalled iTunes, and iPod (from disc) many times. Any solution I could find i tried, but nothing worked. I know the usb cable is not the problem.
someone please help me with this.

I really don't believe in Vista that you would need a driver that is from a disk. The latest drivers are installed in Windows and it should have recognized it without insertion of a disk. It may be that the driver on the disk is the one causing the conflict for the device. It may be something older that is causing a conflict in Vista. I've not tried to connect my iPod to my laptop (the only machine I have with Vista), but I do have iTues installed on it. I didn't have to insert a disk with my XP machine when I got my iPod.
You said the iPod shows up in device manager. Since you say you tried to reinstall the USB driver, you must have uninstalled the iPod in device manager? If not, you might want to connect the iPod, and then go into device manager and remove it. Let it try and recognize the new device. Do you get an error when it recognizes the new hardware, saying it won't work properly? Let me know and I'll try and work further.

  • I just got an iPod touch 4th generation. When I plug the USB into the computer, the iPod does not recognize the charge and the computer/iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod. Please help.

The computer I am referring to is a Windows. However, when I use the same USB cord and plug it into a MacBook Pro, the ipod is recognized and the ipod recognizes the computer. Also, it gets charge from the Wall outlet as well.

empire_of_the_sun, the link you provided ois for other model iPods, not the iPod touch. You article refers you to:
If you have an iPod touch, see iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows.

  • I tried to install the new iOs 7 on my iphone 4, but it wasn't completed (showing error 4005). Now, my iphone is stuck on the itunes' logo with the usb cord, and I can't use my phone. And itunes doesn't detect my iphone when I connect it on my computer.

Hi everyone! I tried to install the new iOs 7 on my iphone 4, but it wasn't completed (showing error 4005). Now, my iphone is stuck on the itunes' logo with the usb cord, and I can't use my phone. And itunes doesn't detect my iphone when I connect it on my computer, so I can't put it in recovery mode or someting like that... What can I do?? I tried everything they tell me to do in the apple support but nothing seems to work. Thank you!

    No problem, glad to help!
Update: my PC USB hub was connected to a USB 3 port, I connected the 30 pin cable directly to my PC, And the restore worked just fine. Restored phone from iCloud backup and seems to be working fine.

  • An older style Ipod has over 10,000 songs on it.  The original computer that contained these songs on itunes has since been replaced.  Can itunes/match get the songs from this ipod to store in match and then put on new computer/itunes?

Can this new service of itunes/match allow you to retrieve songs from an older style ipod, store them in match, and then download them onto a new computer/itunes?  The original computer that contained these songs has since been replaced b/c it broke down.  There were alot of songs on there and now I can't get the songs onto my new computer.  Can match work from ipod > match > computer?

Only if it is an iPod touch that you can turn on iTunes Match.
The original computer that contained these songs has since been replaced b/c it broke down.
Did you make a backup of all the  important files on this computer before it broke down?
    Try this -> http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/
Then backup your computer after you recover the items.

  • Is there a way to copy music that was downloaded from cd's from i pod to new computer itunes account

iTunes Match will do that for you, turn it on in the Store menu (in iTunes). It's $25 per year.

  • I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes deletes all data

I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes wants to  deletes all data off of my iphone so i click cancel
i want to update to iOS 5 and still have itunes be able to copy my playlists from my iphone. for free. why does apple provide a recovery from iphone option?

If you have a backup, restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the computer.  This restores the library and device association files.  If for some reason you chose to only back up the media and not the entire iTunes folder, then the only option is to let iTunes wipe the drive and re-sync.

  • I recently got a new computer. itunes recognized my iphone 4. I then changed my password, but it did not change on the phone. I did sync the phone afterwards. How do I get the phones password to change to the new password in itunes. Thank you

I recently bought a new computer. itunes recognized my iphone 4. I then changed my username and password in itunes. I resynced my phone but, the new password did not take. How do I change them in my iphone to match itunes. Thanks

Not Stupid! I should have been more specific. I'm still new to iphones. I changed my itunes password and ID at the itunes store my computer. I'm not having problems with my email. I'm having problems downloading and updating apps (probably music as well). After it asks for the password, a message comes up saying my itunes store password is incorrect. It works on line though. Does this help? Thanks

  • My computer died, so trying to connect my phone on a new computer and download all my music to the new computer/itunes?

My computer died, so trying to connect my phone on a new computer and download all my music to the new computer/itunes?

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is oen way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  File>Devices>Transfer Purhases
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

I bought a new computer, and downloaded  iTunes, therefore  the new itunes doesn't have my music or anything on there. I want to get everything on my iPhone to my new computer/itunes. But no matter what I do, it won't let me. My desktop has everything that my phone has on it, I just want it all moved to my laptop. Does that make sense? I could really use some help. I don't live with this desktop anymore so I need to be able to use my laptops itunes. Please help me. Thanks in advance!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
