I am told I need to update, but no update appears in Software Update...

HELP!
I have this same exact problem in iWeb AND in iPhoto:
When I launch either of these programs, I am told that an update is available and that I should install it right away.
I am asked if I want to open up Software Update via System Preferences to perform the update. I answer "yes" and Software Update dutifully opens and begins looking for updates.
Guess what?
An update for iWeb and iPhoto NEVER appears in Software Update.
But whenever I open up either of these programs I am told that one is indeed available.
I am stuck in a loop here and it is VERY, VERY frustrating.
What do I do?!
How do I get the stupid updates?
Please help!
Thank you.
Kirk

Yes it is - all Apple programs need to be left where they were originally installed for the updater to work - iphoto must net be renamed or placed in a folder - it must be loose at the root level of the applications folder the way it was originally installed
iWeb probably is the same although I do not know that for a fact - ask in the iWeb forum for definitive information on iWeb

    Enable plug-ins.

Is the box next to "Enable plug-ins"  checked?

In my Java Prefs App I unchecked
    J2SE 5.0
    J2SE 1.4.2 was already unchecked.
    Did I get this right?
Wasnt sure if I was  was disabling Java or Java Script here....
That is Java. Those are also really old versions. You can actually keep them turned on in Java Preferences.
What you want to change is in Safari > Preferences > Security and turn off Java there. Leave Javascript turned on.
This way, the only thing you disable is Java applets, which are useless anyway. If you need to run any Java programs, they will still work. If you have any specific site that requires a Java applet, you can always turn it on just for that site and turn it back off when you are done.

    Hi,
You can download the full version and upgrade. You can also [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information?s=backup&r=1&e=sph&as=s easily take a backup] of the personal files like bookmarks, passwords etc. before upgrading.

  • I have OSX Lion 10.7.5 and iphoto 11 9.2.1 I have spent 3 days making a book for christmas and when I go to buy it I am told I need to update iPhoto.  I went to apps and clicked on the update tab but it showed no results.  HELP!

I am trying to buy the book I created in Iphoto and it says I need to update iphoto.  I have OSX Lion 10.7.5 and Iphoto 11 9.2.1.  I don't know how to update.  I tried to follow the suggested instruction by going to Mac App, clicking on update tab but nothing was found.  I am not sure what to do.  I have spent three days creating this book for a Christmas present and I am 5 hours from the closest Apple store.  Can anyone help.  I don't mind paying for upgrades if that is what is needed I just don't know what is needed or how to do it.
    Thanks,
    Linda

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • I am not able to print a document...told I need to update AIR, but it fails to do so when I try..

Am not able to print a document from a download.  Got message saying I need to update AIR, but when I tried, it failed to do so all the way..

None of these things should happen.
Can you take us through what happens, step by step (like "I see an icon for the document on my desktop. I double click on it. A window opens. At the top it says PDF Printing Window. I click OK. A message comes up saying Update for Adobe Air 3.33 needed. I click Download...". This is made up, but the sort of level we need.

  • I am told I need to update my Adobe Flash. I am unable to update it via the directed web site.

I have go to (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/) update my adobe flash. When I click on the link that says download now, nothing happens.
    How can I correct this?
    Thank you,
    Mark

I always use the method(s) and links below to update. On the main Adobe Flashplayer page (the one you cited),
*Adobe will now download another browser if you do not un-check the box on the first page
*Adobe also downloaded, in the past, the troublesome getplus extension (an updater for Flash) on the page you cited
*May install Adobe Air along with Flash, which is not widely used at this point, except on mobile devices.
There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash; an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only and a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox. On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.
#'''Using Firefox''', go to the following direct download link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
#When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
#*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
#*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    #*The installation is quick.
#Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
#Direct link ActiveX version for IE '''''only''''': http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

  • HT1338 Using 10.8.3 and am told I need iPhoto update.

When I click on iPhoto in App Store updates it tell me I must use Apple Menu route via "Software Updates.."  When I do that, it sends me back to App Store in what is an endless circle to NO UPATE POSSIBLE!  This has been going on for a while.  This must be a bug of some sort.  I tried going directly to Apple Support which sends me right back to the App Store and the endless loop to nowhere.
    Help!

You can't just paste an image into this forum. It looks like it works, but it doesn't. You must click the Camera icon and upload the screen shot.
If you did that, I'm not sure why it isn't visible to me.
Regardless of the message, can you confirm you have gone to the updates tab and an update for iPhoto is available there?

  • When trying to view a video, I'm told I need Flash Player, but it is already installed.

  • HT1338 I can't access my iphoto library as I'm told I need to update iphoto. When I go to update it says there is no update available for this version -- HELP!

The Iphoto is version 2008 but it won't let me upgrade to a newer version.

    Os is version 10.6.8
The exact Iphoto is 7.1.5 (378)
The message I'm getting is :
You can't open your iphoto library using this version of iphoto. You made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto.
When I could no longer open the photos on this computer I copied them to an external drive. I viewed the photos on a borrowed computer and was able to see them but now I'm getting the message to upgrade but again, when I go to upgrade it tells me I can't on this computer becuase OS 10.7.5 or later is required. I'm not given the option to upgrade to 10.7.5 though -- it says my software is up to date.
    Thanks for your help!

  • I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard to go to Lion. I went form 10.3.5 to 10.6.2 then upgraded to 10.6.8 and am now being told I need 10.7 to download Lion. My software is up to date so how can I get Lion? It also tells me I need 2gb when I have more!

I have been trying to upgrade to OS Lion but am unable to as it requires 10.7  I have 10.6.8 and this is the latest upgrade I can get. How can I upgrade to Lion?
I have all the other requriements, except 10.7. How do I get that?

I just re-checked and I dont have enough ram from the outset. So the first thing I need to do is get that installed.
If you know how I can delete this thread to stop wasting people's time, let me know.
Sorry guys, it's back to the drawing board for me.

  • Need to Update Flashplayer but I have the most recent one.

Hi. I will start by saying that I am computer illiterate, so I will need careful and patient help. Here is my issue: Whenever I try to play a video, You Tube or otherwise, I am told I need to update flashplayer. When I go to update it, I am told that I need to close windows messenger. According to my settings, messenger is disabled. Whenever i get rid of the messenger box, I am told that installation is incomplete.  Also, according to my settings, I have the most recent version of flashplayer installed, 10.1.102.64, the one for IE.
On a totally unrelated note, what is the difference between Spyware and anti virus protection? I have McAffee.
    Will appreciate your help.

Hi, Thanks for stating that you are not so experienced with computers. We don't have any way of knowing until we're told:-)
I need your computer info, as XP, Vista, Win7? Also what version of the IE browser? If you don't know, go up to Help at the top of the IE and click on it, then About Internet Explorer.
I'll post the info on Anti-Virus/Spyware next.
    Thanks,
