I am too old to learn about complicated new features, please keep it simple.

I have spent many years recognising and using the excellent Mozilla Firefox processes.
I now fear that a flood of tweaks and changes ( like facebook etc ) will become remote, complicated, and of insignificant merit for the elderly ( 75 + ) to assimilate, learn, or get enthused about. I hope my pessimism does not happen. GOOD WISHES

  • How does one learn about the new features or pending features

I'll be honest I have know about Acrobat, com for some time but have recently found a few business opportunities.  Throughout the fourms I see notations about future releases. Some great opportunities if some of the features were a bit more enriched.
Is there a means of finding out what features are planned and possible target releases ?   I am curious from both the Acrobat.com sharing perspective as well as the CS Review functions.
    Thanks in advance

All 3rd parties apps are the developers of the apps responsibility.
Locate the apps on Mac App Store and check the developer website (on the top right of the product description).

  • I'm too old to learn iCal.  How do I tell iTunes to synch with Outlook for Mac for all of the Contacts and the Calendar on my iPhone and iPad??  Thanks

I'm too old to learn iCal.  How do I tell iTunes to synch with Outlook for Mac for all of the Contacts and the Calendar on my iPhone and iPad??
Also, once I figure out how to replace iCal with Outlook/Mac on iTunes, how do I synch the phone and pad so that the information on those devices over-writes onto Outlook as a backup, rather than having a blank Calendar on Outlook wipe out all of the information on the phone and pad???
    Thanks

If you haven't tried already, plug your devices into iTunes, and on each device next to the "Summary" tab at the top is another tab called "Info." Click that and scroll down to Contacts, Calendars, etc. There should be a pull down bar under each category for "Sync contacts from..." and you should be able to select from that pull down list Outlook.  Hit Apply at the bottom and see if that does it.

I have an RVS4000 with V1.1.09 firmware... the firmware is too old to update to the new 1.3 how do I update my firmware
Does anyone have an older version of the firmwre, as Cisco has conveniently removed all older releases of the firmware and only has a utility so I can not load the software via the router.

You would need to contact SBSC and ask for firmware 1.1.14.
Here is a historic thread about the firmware upgrade issue.

  • I have an iMac4.1 and my iPhoto is very slow and the thumbnails correspond to the wrong pictures.  How do I fix this? Or is my iMac too old?  Will getting a new iMac solve this problem?.

I have an iMac4.1 and my iPhoto is very slow and the thumbnails correspond to the wrong pictures.  How do I fix this? Or is my iMac too old?  Will getting a new iMac solve this problem?
I realize is only 512MB of memory but I want to make sure that a new iMac will solve this problem.  Can the new iPhoto handle 10GB or more of photos?  Or do I have to go to Picasa anyways in which case I can buy any computer to do that?

The model of Mac is not partcularly relevant, it's the version of the OS and iPhoto that matter.
iPhoto - since 2006 - is good for 250,000 images.

  • About the new Pages, please.

About the new Pages, please. I've a lot of text in the old '09 version 4.3 -- how do I go about moving it to the new Pages?

Many thanks for your message, Peter. So glad to have your reply and impressed with all you’ve contributed to this topic here in the past.
Guess I was hoping that by looking away long enough, things would get better. I’d put aside my book, all in Pages ’09, but now I want to finish it and to move what’s done to Scrivener. Surely there’s some better way to rescue the old stuff than a complete rewrite?
Seems Scrivener actually uses TextEdit and that’s fine but of course I was using Pages in the first place because I’d like more control of how stuff looks on the page from the start.
Please tell me: Without losing any text, what are the options?
    Kind regards . . . Fortes

  • Model 7280 - too old to talk about?

I just purchased a 7280 to replace a lost iphone. Is this device too old to be worth discussing?
If not, I have been able to do everything I want to do - sync the device with my Outlook Contacts and Calander but now that I am ready to roll I can't hear the dumb thing ring!
I have searched and followed at least a bazillion posts the last couple of days but cannot find a cure for the Media Manager not recognizing the device is connected. I have managed to download some new ring tones that will hopefully be louder, but now I can't get them on the phone!
I don't want to have to purchace the data package from the phone company so Internet is out. But the Media Manager seems to offer a solution if I can get it to recognize the device.
Is the phone old enouth that I should just forget it or is there yet some hope?

  • I cannot download my old itunes library to my new ipod - please help!!!!

Unfortunately in August 2006 someone nicked my Ipod mini - thanks! So my insurance co. replaced it with an ipod nano. I've installed the new software disk that came with my ipod nano and hooked up with the old itunes library to my new ipod nano. Simple huh? Not likely. It says I have too many tunes in my itunes library to download to my new ipod. However the mini and nano are both the same size -4G so why now is it telling my I have too many songs to download to my ipod nano? I have even deselected some from the library but no luck. My old ipod mini was not full to capacity anyway? any ideas?
It could be that my current pc is not logged to the internet - AOL fault currently being sorted but surely that should not stop me updating my ipod? The tunes are in the library the new 4g ipod (allbeit a nano and not a mini as was) is connected yet the **** thing says I have too many tunes selcted to download WHEN I KNOW I DONT! Help......... please does anyone have a clue where i'm going wrong its driving my nuts!

Why not?  What happens when  you try?
Is the content selected to sync?

  • One's Never Too Old to Learn

Hi, recently aquired a Dual USB iBook G3. First laptop for me, however been round mac desktops since teaching them to kids as far bac as mid 80's. Anyway, what can u wonderful, knowledgeable
peeps tell me bout what I have, and or what steps should I take to "enhance" it. More specifically, first question is "has logic board been replaced"? Here's what I have.... It has 2065 hours...oops, no, that's my tractor. Sorry. Has 500 MHz, 256 MB (128+128), 14GB HD (9.3 avail.) CD-ROM tray. Was
HD replaced? Has OS 10.2.8 in it. I got no software with it. In reading many posts here, sounds like max. RAM (640) would be nice. And finding some disks (either Jaguar or Panther) would also enable me to "clean house" on this sweetie.
Won't need it for iphoto or itunes, as my 2Gig G5 imac upstairs takes care of that. Basically would like to become the "owner" and also have it run faster.
First time poster. Thanks for taking a sec to say hi etc. Have a good day and God bless our troops

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    http://support.apple.com/specs/ibook/iBook14.1LCD.html
    The original hard drive.
It shouldn't matter whether the logic board has been replaced. The iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program was in place to fix them when/if they failed. It was not a recall.
I believe you can minimize the possibility of a logic board failure by never picking it up by the left front corner alone. If you pick it up in your left hand (as I often do mine), grab it in the center under the trackpad instead of that left front corner.
I would advise maximizing the RAM with a 512 MB RAM module. It takes a 3.3 V, PC100 or PC133 compliant, 1.25 inch SDRAM SO-DIMM.
Installation instructions can be found in this Apple Knowledge Base article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=111918
You will need system install discs to make it your own (change the password). They will almost assuredly be necessary for system maintenance somewhere along the line, too.
I won't buy one that doesn't have the original system discs with it because just buying Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2) or Panther (Mac OS 10.3) and doing an Erase and Install won't get you the original applications that came with it (like AppleWorks).
    Good luck with it.

  • How do i stop the popup that says "...choose from thousands of add ons" or "...to get the most out of your browser, learn about our latest features". it bugs. thanks

i just downloaded the new browser

Hi Nancy………. thanks for the reply and suggestion. I’ve had a look and I’m afraid that’s not for me. I spent the best part of a year learning probably just 1% of Dreamweaver and building a new site from templates, so to even think about such major changes now is not an option. Thanks anyway. I need something that does not involve changing the code or templates etc. as I’ve finally got it all working just fine and I daren’t touch it. I have too much on my plate now writing the content.
With my current small site I have tried just turning off the router and this works fine for the browsers once you tell them to work off-line. But Dreamweaver persists in trying to load the ads from the internet and gets all huffy when it can’t. Is there not some simple way to tell it to just use the ads it downloaded a minute ago?
What about the local server thing? Would that work? Either as something installed on the actual machine I’m working from, or on one of the others connected to my router? How would that differ in what I’m doing now and would Dreamweaver actually give up looking to the internet for the ads?
    Regards
    Brian.

  • How can I learn about my new Mac?

Hi, I just recently purchased my first mac-the 2.0GHZ white macbook with leopard. Have never used Mac before, but have heard about it, and after constant problems with my windows pc, will only be keeping it as a backup machine in future. Problem is, where do I start with this thing. What I most miss is the right click, I can't create folders on desktop or elsewhere and making a stack is beyond comprehension. I went through all 76? pages of the leopard tutorial, but it assumes you have some basic knowledge of the mac system. Is there an online tutorial for the mac virgins that assumes no prior knowledge at all? Any help on this would be appreciated. P.S. I am not computer illiterate, I built my last two computers myself (maybe this is why I have constant problems but I don't think so, I don't have any more issues than every other windows user.) and in my workplace, I am the person they come to whenever anyone has software/hardware problems with the computers.

In addition to the suggestions already offered, you might consider Mac OS X Leopard: The Missing Manual by David Pogue. It hasn't been released yet (due on Dec 15th) but it should be a great resource for new & seasoned Mac users alike if it is anything like the earlier versions for older OS X versions.
I found the Tiger edition to be a great reference both for myself, a seasoned Mac user, & for my wife, something of a technophobe. It even has a section specifically for Windows converts, set up to show Mac equivalents for Windows features, which would be useful for you.
There are cheaper alternatives, but at 900 pages, probably not more comprehensive ones.

  • Apparently my Mac is too old now to sync with newer products. How do upgrade the software/hardware so i can keep up to date. I love my mac and dont want to buy a new one. Is it possible?

Help! I am struggling and im really not a wizz with technology. I must have missed the morph into the new world! I have a macbook (i think!) and i found that im still running off the version 10.5.8. I have just plugged in my new ipad, and tried to get it synced with Itunes and it said i needed a newer version.
Am i able to upgrade to a newer version and if so, how do i do it...i really dont want to throw out this computer because it is awesome...can someone please help me?

To be able to connect with the devices that need a newer version of iTunes, you are first going to need to upgrade you OS X.  To do this from where you are at, first you need to make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements for OS X Snow Leopard which you can find here http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575 and then after verifying that it can, you then need to order the Snow Leopard CD from Apple to do the upgrade.  You can purchase the CD from them for $19.99 and when it gets to your house, you can insert the CD in the drive and press the "C" key while booting your computer.  Then you'll get the install wizard from the CD which will give you directions you need to install Snow Leopard on your computer.  After getting that installed, make sure you update the software on your computer and it will get you what you need to be able to Sync your devices.  After you get Snow Leopard installed, if you wanted to go further you could then upgrade to 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion if your computer can handle those as well, and you can do that right from the App Store that will be available to you from Snow Leopard and you don't have to order a CD for those.

  • Switching from my old phone back to my new one. Keeping Unlimited.

A little over a week ago I switched from my LG G2 that had a unlimited data plan over to my old Galaxy Nexus. I switched phones because I was worried I was going to damage my G2  and needed something I wouldn’t mind breaking. However now that I want to switch back to the LG G2 I was using its asking me for another plan. I don't want another plan I want to keep the one I am using. It let me switch phones once without incident and now its asking for a switch. I've already gone through chat and was told I could keep my plan and no issue would come through it if I dialled customer service. Now that I dialled *611 its not letting me do so. I got the run around and this is total **.

Hello rexthehuman. I'm sorry you are having problems switching back to your LG G2 without changing your plan. If you originally purchased the LG G2 without a discount on the line you have it activated on, then you would not be able to keep your unlimited data. If you purchased the LG G2 by using a different line or through our Device payment plan, you will be able to keep the unlimited data. If you have not been able to have this corrected, please respond to my follow request and send me a direct message.

  • Question about unwelcome new feature: Hyperlink to URL added step

Does anybody know how to, in Numbers 3.0, remove the (very unwelcome) added feature when you click on an active URL, asking if you want to edit it or open it? (Instead of assuming that you want to open it in a browser window, and doing so forthwith.)
To explain that in more detail:
How it used to work. One of the most valuable (to my company) features in the previous version of Numbers was the ability to use the HYPERLINK formula to create a column of URLs that could be clicked on in rapid succession, also using Command-Tab to switch between the browser and Numbers. That is, in Column A you would have a list of domain names, say, 100 of them that you needed to check. In Column B, you would use this formula to create 100 clickable hyperlinks: =HYPERLINK("http://www."&A)
Numbers didn't "stop to ask" if you wanted to open the URL: it assumed, that if you clicked on it, that you wanted to open it up in your browser window.
How it works now: You can use the same formula, but when you click, the extra step has been added of asking if you want to "edit" or "open".
I'm wondering if there's some way around this, to remove this extra step.

    John,
Yes, works the same way here. I'll add it to my list of things that are gone. This one will have to get an asterisk since it's not so much gone as lass convenient.
    Jerry

  • Here's a list from Apple about the new features in Lion

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Look at the date of the original post.
That link is generic, so it always goes to the latest (or imminent) release.
In June 2011, it was a link to the then-current version OS X, 10.7 Lion.
A year from now that link will go to the whatever beast the next version is named for.
