I am trying to authorize my new computer to download music from the cloud.

I previously purchased music using another computer which is no longer in my possesion.  I attempted to follow the direction given on the support page to deauthorize computers, but MY Account page does not have the option to deauthorize (no button!)  It only states that "This account allows one computer to be authorized to download".  Help!

Hello, johnandsteph.
You are allowed a total of 5 computers at a time to be authorized to play content.  It is not necessary to deauthorize an old computer if you are attempting to add a new one unless you have reached your five total allotment.  From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer and enter your Apple ID and password.  At that point you should be able to access your previous purchases.  I have included two links listed below.  The first one goes over authorization and deauthorization.  The second article covers how to download past purchases.
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

If you are still unable to successfully authorize a computer, you may need to reach out to us via Contact Apple Support.
Hope this helps,
Jason H.

I tried to authorize my new computer and can't find the link anywhere? Also iTunes only recovered the songs I purchased from the iStore, what about the rest?

If the menu bar is not visible, hit CTRL+B then Store > Autorize this computer
iTunes Store keeps a purchase history for your Apple ID and allows ypou to redownload purchases. Any other media add to iTunes from outside the store (CDs, etc..) are not uploaded to iTunes unless you have purchased iTunes Match. Those items you will need to add from your backups.

  • I've just downloaded itunes on a new computer, and I'm downloading music from the cloud, but it seems to stick on certain songs and won't download them at all, stopping at a certain point. How do I get round this?

    Hi all,
I've just downloaded itunes onto a new computer, and I'm currently downloading previously owned music from the cloud. However, it keeps sticking on various songs - it will get part of the way through and just stop, this seems to happen to about 1 in 10 songs. How do I get round this?
Also, once I've finished dowloading from the cloud, how do I get my library to display only the songs I've downloaded, and not all the other ones that I don't want anymore?
    Cheers, Alex

On the new laptop, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

How do I authorize my new computer so I can download my old and new songs off my library

See iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization for Macs.
See How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld for Windows.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it.

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

How do you download music from iCloud to a new computer?

    Hi Heatheretd,
So, you have a new computer, and you have loaded the most current version of iTunes 11 onto it, correct? What type of computer is it - that will make it easier to walk you through this....
And we are assuming your mean all your PURCHASED music from iTunes? Or are you talking about moving an entire iTunes library  from an old computer to a new one.....

  • Syncing music from your ipod to a new computer and getting music from the new computer

I have an old ipod nano and I recently go a new mac book pro. I want to sync the music from the nano onto my mac book and then sync the music from my mac book on to my ipod. Please help

Do you have any ripped, non-purchased music? That is, music that you ripped off of CD's and imported into your iTunes library as opposed to buying from the iTunes Store. If you do not have any of this music, your solution is simple: connect your iPod to iTunes, then go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases from "[iPod name]". All of the music from your iPod will be transferred onto your MacBook. After that, sync your iPod to get the music that is on your MacBook and not on your iPod, on your iPod.
If you do have ripped music, however, you will have a much more difficult time. Is this the case?

  • I tried to authorize a new computer with windows 8. Per iTunes Help, there should be an "authorize computer" section on the iTunes store menu. I only have two computers authorized so I know another one is possible. Suggestions?

I tried to authorize a new computer with Windows 8 for my iTunes acct.  Per iTunes Help, there is an "authorize computer" prompt in the menu selection on iTunes store website. I can find no such listing.  I have two computers linked to my account so I know that adding another one would be ok.  Any suggestions?

Press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer.

  • I am trying to authorize a new computer.  I can not fine the authorize option once I open Itunes

I am trying to authorize a new computer.  i have opened iTunes.  I only see a link for the apps store.  Where do I find the Stgore/Authorize button?

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

The page Roger posted is good but was very confusing for me. I'll try to help you out since that article was confusing to me.
In iTunes, Click your name/email that is directly to the left of the search bar.
    Click account info.
Click this button where the mouse is:
(the screenshot is from an older iTunes on windows, but it is the same on the new versions)
    Done!
You can only use that button once per year, so try to remember to deauthorize computers before you get rid of them.
