Let's see if a more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure gets us past that, nancy. See the following troubleshooting document:

  • Getting error message "the requested item could not be found" when trying to install Firefox on my android.

I had to uninstall Firefox for Android because I was having problems logging in to sync. I got a support e-mail to uninstall and reinstall because the sync issue had been fixed. I uninstalled the Firefox app and then when I tried to reinstall it I get the error message on my phone "the requested item could not be found." HELP!

Some supported phones are not displaying Firefox in the Market for some reason. We're still investigating this. You can check if your phone is supported here:
    https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android
and then download the app directly from here:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/4.0b3/android-r7/multi/
(Note: If your phone is from AT&T, you will have to search for instructions on "sideloading" the APK file, since AT&T disables the option to install from non-Market sources.)

  • I am getting message "the internet assistant could not be found."   Is there a way to reinstall it? I know nothing about  Macs. OS is 9.0, hardware is iMac G3 2000.

I was given an old iMac G3 2000, a big blue and white computer. I cannot connect to the internet. I am a Windows person and thought this would be a good opportunity to learn something new. I setup tcp/ip, I setup Internet control panel. The main problem is that the Internet Setup assistan is missing. Can I simply install the internet setup assistant? I am totally lost in this apple world. Please help or at least give me some direction. I do not have the Operating system CD.

I do not have the Operating system CD.
You need it in order to custom install "internet setup assistant?"  Either get them from the person who gave you the iMac or from Apple.  You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html  Another resource:  International Support Phone #s.
Suggest that you cross-post over in the Classic Mac OS (OS9, OS8 & System 7) forums.

    Hello Ceeclass,
I suggest this article named iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1408.
It should help you locate the media that is not playing in the iTunes library.
    Take care,

I'm trying to import a cd to my mac air from my pc.  downloadedAbout the Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update. The mac recognized the pc and the cd , but fails to play or import it. i get the message the cd could not be found. Suggestions?

You can't share/play a music CD using Remote Disk. It's a limitation that Apple built in.
"MacBook Air and Mac mini do not support playing DVD movies or audio CD media with Remote Disc."
Remote Disk is limited to data transfers.
You will have to use the MBA external superdrive, or another compatible external DVD device hooked directly to the Macbook Air.
Otherwise, you will need to rip the CD's contents using your PC and transfer the music as data files.

    Try the following..
Compress the audio files before uploading them to Google.. using Apple's built in file compressor... (Right/Control click on an audio file and choose compress from the popup menu...
Download from Google and then decompress audio files..
Now test in Logic and see if you get the same issue....

  • "The iPod ... could not be updated because it could not be found" on Mac?

I just updated to the latest version of QuickTime and was notified that there was a new iPod update but when I try to update it I get the message:
"The iPod "My Name's iPod" could not be updated because it could not be found."
I tried to remove the iPod Software Update folder, but that didn't work.
I also tried to restore the iPod too, but I got the same error message??
I see documents for Windows on this error message about the firmware being corrup bug not for Macs.
    What's going on??

Well, back again... a new iTunes and QuickTime update via Software Update and it got my iTunes in the same state again after the web installation. DOH! I reinstalled both QT and iTunes again to fix the issue again. I can't be the only one that this is happening to so just reiterate the fix works but that I'm beginning not to trust the Software Update versions of the installers for QT and iTunes. There IS a difference and it's a buggy result of not being able to find the iPod afterward. Next time I get the prompt to update I'm going to refuse and then download it from the website.

I get about one or two of these error messages, from Contacts each day: "The Operation could not be completed. No other information is available about the problem." Thanks!  I looked at the Busycal post:
To fix this, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy, select Contacts in the left sidebar, then check BusyCal.app.
On my system, only Skype, Parallels, and Contacts Cleaner are enabled to access contacts.
FYI, LinkedIn doesn't list any apps as having asked for, or been given access.
If that doesn't work, here is a bigger hammer:
    OK
              1) Launch Terminal in /Applications/Utilities.
              2) Paste the following text and hit return:
                   tccutil reset AddressBook
First, I want to see what that does so I ran man tccutil
         NAME
tccutil -- manage the privacy database
         SYNOPSIS
              tccutil command service
         DESCRIPTION
The tccutil command manages the privacy database, which stores decisions the
user has made about whether apps may access personal data.
              One command is current supported:
reset    Reset all decisions for the specified service, causing apps to prompt
again the next time they access the service.
         EXAMPLES
To reset all decisions about whether apps may access the address book:
                    tccutil reset AddressBook
              3) Quit Terminal.
              4) Launch BusyCal, and click OK when asked whether to allow access to your contacts.
Now I see under System Preferences->Security&Privacy->Privacy->Contacts that all apps were removed from the list.
I haven't had BusyCal in years so I just launched Calendar and Contacts.
Unfortunately, as soon as I launch Contacts, I get the pop-up again about the LinkedIn

  • "Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is nor available"

I'm trying to install Photoshop CS4 for the very first time onto a Mac Powerbook G4, MacOS 10.4.11.  The installation succeeded, but when I launch Photoshop CS4, I get the "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available" error followed by the "Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is nor available" error.  There is only one disk in the Powerbook, at it has 27GB free space.
The FAQ advice is to reset preferences.  I did that repeatedly by holding down cmd-option-shift while starting up Photoshop and answering "yes" when it asks to delete the preference file.  Didn't help.  Same errors occur.
I also deleted the ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings and ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe folder hierarchies. Didn't help. I did the above together.  Didn't help.  Same errors occur.
I uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it.  Didn't help.  Still get the same errors.
I even deleted the root /Library/Application Support/Adobe/ folder tree, which then forced another complete reinstallation of Photoshop CS4 because that killed the license manager.  Didn't help.  Still get the same errors.
Where else could preferences be lurking?  I've never been able to successfully launch Photoshop CS4 on this Mac, so I guess it must be trying to import something weird from another Adobe application.

First thing that comes to mind is the lack of free hard drive space. Photoshop writes scratch from the beginning when you open it up. If there is not enough room or no scratch disk then Photoshop will not start up. The OS is using the same free space for writing SWAP files.
Also CS4 is not supported on a G4.
The only solution I can think is to delete some unneeded files and see if opening up some free space will solve the problem.

  • Bootcamp: installer disk could not be found - but MAC desktop can see it

    Hi,
I have an iMac intel - 17" 1.83 GHz that I put together from a box of junk. Mechanic friend took it all apart, don't ask. Installed a new hard drive of 1 terrabyte. The internal optical drive does not work so we got a new Iomega optical drive that works just great.
We want to run Windows XP Pro on this iMac - and after updating all of the software in Mac (OS 10.5.8), and running Bootcamp set up assistant, partitioned the drive to 500 GB MAC; 500 GB PC, got this error message saying that the Windows XP installer disk could not be found.
The disk appears on the desktop. I can click on it and see all of the pc files in it. I clicked on a couple of the files and got a simple text document of gibberish. But the set up assistant in Bootcamp still doesn't recognize the disk. So I have been unable to install Windows.
The disk itself is a burned copy from my university that gave me a full license for Windows XP Pro, SP 3. It's 32 bit. And it shows up as an install disk when I pop it into a PC.
I've run Disk Warrior and Disk Utilities to repair permissions and to check that the new hard drive is ok...and it's all set.
I wonder if this is because of the external dvd drive that I'm using. I can use my Macbook Pro and get the imac into target mode. But don't know if this will have me continue to bark up this tree.
Has anyone had success with the same kind of problem that I'm not facing? Thanks much in advance.
    Sheila

I too got a version of Windows 7 64 Professional from the the Microsoft Software Distribution Network through Uni. I burnt the iso file on a PC to a DVD with power ISO and then tried to use it as the install disk. After some umming and arrhhing Mac OS X recognised it, the installer started, allowed to select language etc, then suddenly a box appears announcing that a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing.
I have rang up apple support and they are pretty much saying it is a disc quality issue, but I have checked all the disc drive regimes and permissions and they all seem to be fine. I have also done it with multiple brands and a number of times, everytime the same message returned. All the latest firmware has been downloaded. One thing that was briefly mentioned by the guy at Apple support was that there was the possibility that it may be the "logic board". So the previous poster may be right. They said this was unlikely, but everything is possible. The drive works for everything in the OS X side though, so has pretty much stumped me and the Apple support people. I think the only option is to take it to an Apple shop and let them see it for themselves, not really an option for me as I need the Mac Book to write my dissertation, due in about three weeks so can't afford to lose it.
Sorry if I have slightly "jacked" the thread, but the issue sounded pretty close to mine. Any resolution or insight into what might be the issue would be amazing.
    Regards,
    Duncan

I am not aware of a way except for photos that allows you to select multiple files in an email. I even checked settings in the Adobe Reader app, and it does not show that ability.
