I am trying to connect my new iMac with sonos but it is not connecting

Is there firewall settings I need to adjust?

maybe-but apparently Sonos has released an update  for Mountain Lion (10.8, I think)
at http://blog.sonos.com/news/sonos-3-8-new-support-for-mac-os-x-10-8-and-android-4 -0/. hopefully you have that. . . Apparently the Sonos controller may have a little problem with OS X's built in firewall, and you should allow it full access, and it mentions something about needing to collect usage data. Hmm...magic 8ball says "Yes" so I'd go with that for now.. the manual does mention just plugging it in with an Ethernet cable, but I don't know how you're connected to the other component, wired or wireless,  so all I can do right now is guess.  How you allow it full access is up to you.

  • I reinstalled tiger on one iMac, but want to re-upgragde it to Lion.  I don't have the discs anymore, but I installed Lion from the Mac App Store.  Now that I'm back to 10.4, I don't have the App Store.  I have a new iMac with Mavericks, but it won't let

I have a 2006 iMac that I've upgraded to each new os as they came out.  I just wiped it (for the kids to use, I have a new iMac with Mavericks) and reintalled Tiger from the original discs.  I want to get it back to Lion - which I purchased from the Mac App Store.  But Tiger doesn't have the App Store and I don't have the discs anymore from the intermediate versions.  I tried downloading Lion from the new iMac but it's not available...
    Any ideas?

To get to the App Store, you need to upgrade the Tiger machine to Snow Leopard.

  • Old Mac Pro with 7.0 iPhoto transferred selected photo albums to my iPad. New iMac with iPhoto 11.0 will not transfer photo albums to my iPad. Why not?

I just purchased the new iMac with the latest iPhoto. Transferred my iPhoto library from my old Mac Pro. Upgraded iPhoto app and then tried to transfer photo albums to my iPad. New iPhoto will not allow transfer of selected albums, while old iPhoto did allow me to sync my selected albums to my iPad. Am I doing something wrong?

I do not have Last 12 Months selected. I also do not have Events or Faces or any of those newer designations selected. I have literally thousands of photographs in iPhoto, which is why I keep the select, special few hundred or so I want on my iPhone in very specific albums. These are the albums I select to sync. However, not all of the photos in these albums are uploading to my iPhone. They were on my iPhone and synced perfectly fine until the switch to the new laptop this weekend. All files were migrated to the new laptop, and all files are there and viewable on iPhoto. Something is causing some of the photos not to sync. That is what I need assistance with....

  • Brand new IMac 27 bluetooth mouse and keyboard not connecting for eight minutes after start up.

I have a new imac 27 that has worked flawlessly for three weeks.
All of a sudden, when starting up the mac boots fine but the bluetooth mouse and keyboard are non responsive. This state is maintained for between 7 and 8 minutes then both mouse and keyboard start working and continue doing so for the rest of the day....until the next restart and the whole saga repeats itself.
Both sets of batteries are fully charged.
I have scoured different sites and tried any suggestion that made any sense, to no avail. All I am able to do at the moment is to do the time, wait the 7 to 8 mins. and then all's good.
My first Mac and this is very annoying especially as Apple must be aware of this issue but no solution is forthcoming!
    Any suggestions/workarounds would be great.
    Thanks

if you are using rechargeable batteries sometimes they don't stay charged for as long as they should try using alkalaine batteries and see if the issue still persists.
also try doing an SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:

  • I am trying to install the new update and it says I am not connected to the Internet . Any suggestions?

once again I am trying to download the new update 8.1.3 and it says I am not connected to the Internet which I am. Any suggestions ?

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad or your router?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Even though you are connected to the Internet, sometimes resetting your router can help. It's very easy to do. Just unplug it for about 30 seconds, plug it back in and let it start up.

  • Connecting an iMAC Power PC G5 to a new iMAC with Intel

i would like to buy a new iMAC with Intel, but i was wondering if i can connect my current iMAC Power PC G5 to the new one? the display on my current iMAC is going bad. the reason i ask is because i would like to continue using some of the software on my current iMAC and just be able to work with them using the new iMAC. i just dont want to buy new software to put in the new iMAC. does somebody have an answer for this? or can i tranfer, for example microsoft office, to the new iMAC?

Nope! As Rick Lang noted, Apple provides "Migration Assistant" with OS X - when you get your new iMac, and go through the setup at power-on, you'll eventually be presented with a "Migration Assistant". To migrate from your G5, it's as simple as connecting the G5 to your iMac via a FireWire cable (You may need a FireWire 800 cable for new iMacs - also called a "9-pin to 9-pin" firewire or IEEE 1394 cable. Shop around - most retail stores, like Best Buy, charge way too much for cables). Then, startup the G5, holding the "T" key. It'll enter "FireWire Target Mode", acting as an external hard drive. Migration assistant while then happily copy all your user data to the iMac - it may take a while. If you've already setup the iMac, you can still use the Migration Assistant - it's in the "Applications>Utilities" folder.
Your applications should now work just fine, with some exceptions. First is that some applications aren't entirely compatible with Snow Leopard (which ships on all new iMacs) - although most currently developed applications have updates to do so. Secondly, you need to check that the apps are "Universal" - that they will work natively on Intel processors. If they are not, they will still work under "Rosetta" - essentially a built-in PowerPC emulator - they will just be slower. Finally, while I haven't had trouble with software licenses, depending on the application you may be required to re-enter the serial numbers/license keys. I can't remember if Office required this, but make sure you have them available.
Also, if you plan to get rid of your old iMac, remember to de-activate iTunes (and other applications that require licenses), and securely erase the hard drive. (Startup via the CD the iMac shipped with, go into Disk Utility, and do a "Secure Erase")
I hope that answers your question! If you decide to upgrade, enjoy your iMac!

  • Have new iMac OSx10.8.2, and when I connected my Epson Stylus pro3880, loaded printer drivers, and tried to print, the printer utility opens, then crashes. Any ideas? (it worked fine on my last iMac)

Have a new imac OSx10.8.2, and when I connected my Epson Stylus pro 3880, loaded print drivers, and tried to print, the printer utility opened and then crashed; happened several times. Any ideas? (it worked fine on my older imac)

I believe so. the driver version I have is 8.64
The person gave me the instructions to reset the printing system and I followed it. That's what corrected the printing drop down windows.
I am also having trouble finding the downloaded icc profiles for the papers I use. I see them in the Color Sync Utility, but not in the drop down window for Color Management. There is a thread on this forum relating to that, but I don't understand how to "copy" the profiles and put them elsewhere.

  • I am trying to connect my new iMac to my Buffalo router.  I forgot my router password, so I reset it and it is working.  I can't figure out how to reset my router password and lock it on my iMac.

I am connecting my new iMac to my Buffalo router.  I forgot my router password so I pushed the reset button and my computer was able to connect.  The problem is, I can't figure out how to set my new password and lock the router.  I went to the Buffalo website and downloaded the CD, as I can't find that either.  I can't open any of it because it says it is Windows and can't open it.  I am new to Apple!

    Ah, new to routers too.
Perhaps it's best to have a local computer support person come set you up?
To explain everything would require writing a book here.
But this is what you want basically.
Router, new Wireless N, firmware updated.
1: Two accounts, one admin, one guest Internet access. Random +30 plus character lenght passwords each preferred.
(guest password to max password length of any iDevices)
2: Encryption: WPA2 AES. No Ping. No remote access. No MAC filtering. Visible.
3: Guest access on devices and computers only.  Passwords written down and stored.
4: OpenDNS preferred but not mandatory.
If you get OpenDNS, you can log into their website for free and set parental controls on things like inappropriate sites for children. So whatever device is used on your network can't access a large portion of those sites (nothing is perfect) by most users who are not technical oriented.
What your doing now is running the bare bones unsecure router which can be used harmfully against you.
Even a Apple Airport router has to be very well secured. The defautl cd and out of the box setup is not a secure solution.

  • Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.

Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static IP, Subnet, Router and DNS manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.  Using Airport for router, latest firmware, no problems with Iphone 4 or Macbook Pro or any other internet devices.  After total Restore (factory settings) tried again, showed connected to router, but does not display "check" next to router but little rotating icon even though the wifi range signal shows connected at full strength and it says it is connected.  Just can't seem to get it to generate an IP.  Any solutions other than turning it on and off again?  Not a Merry Christmas morning.

Ok, so, a couple of things:  Denisefromwaleska and I have the exact same size/type/color iPod.  Now wishing I'd bought the black one maybe...
Second, Airport is an Express and I have a second one that I carry with me when I travel.  Tried to connect my Airport Express to the internet and could not although the iPod did recognize the router and tried to connect to the internet for some time, unlike my previous problem.  Updated firmware on my travel router, still could not connect to the internet.  Going to try to set up a manual Static IP on the travel router here in a few and conect through it although I predict the problem will persist. Back on the Christmas Present Airport Express router, it is back in play and working fine for all devices save the iPod.
Thanks again for all your help, hopefully I can get a solution in place soon,

  • I've forgotten my Wi-Fi password for a network set-up years ago and am trying to include a new iMac on the same network. How can I do this?

I've forgotten my wi-fi password for a home network set-up years ago on a Powerbook. I'm now trying to add a new iMac to the same network so I can have 2 hooked up. How can I retrieve my password for the network I created or can I set-up a new one? I did try the latter, but it didn't seem to work on the new iMac for some reason. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    HI, Welcome to the Forums...
The password may be stored in your keychain on the system you set up the original PowerBook.
Run KeyChain access in the utilities filder and see if you have a Airport base station password entry, from this you can reveal the password.

    Shawn
