I am trying to convert a large Excel 2003 spreadsheet to .pdf.

The spreadsheet displays in individual print pages rather than in one width, which should fit a screen. I am using Adobe Acrobat 9.0. How can I make the full width appear on one screen?

With OFFICE 2003, be sure to either turn of the use of printer metrics or select the Adobe PDF printer in the print menu before setting things up in EXCEL for pages. You might also select to print to fit when printing to the Adobe PDF printer. If you are using PDF Maker, you will have to make adjustments in the preferences in the Adobe menu.

Something to try - use Acrobat to extract small page counts (say 10 pages) to have smaller page size PDF files. Export these to Word files. Then bring those together.

It's always a good idea to supply platform and AI version info.
How are you "converting" the file? Are you choosing "Save As" and selecting PDF from the file format options? This will bring up additional save options. I would suggest "Illustrator Default" setting unless you have specific needs.

Hi Ricks PDF,
How large is the PDF? There is a file size limit of 100MB; so if the file is larger, ExportPDF can't upload it. If the file is smaller than 100MB, you can try disabling OCR. See How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel.

Saving an Excel File as a PDF

Hi,
I am desperately trying to convert a large excel file to a PDF.
I have 26 columns and a LOT of rows.
When I go to file in excel and then click 'save as PDF' it saves the columns on separate pieces of paper, which just makes viewing the data impossible.
Is there anyway to get the excel workbook to save to PDF in a readable format? (such as saving it how you would select the print area ... if that makes sense?)

I am trying to import a large excel spreadsheet to a new table. Using 1.5.4 with patch 2 applied. If excel is "small" all goes okay. If excel workbook is "large" I get to step 1 of 4 but no coumns show up. Also no workbook names. Cannot go any futher.
Oh yeas I am using windows XP on a novel Network. All current patches applied
What gives. Is there a setting not quite right.

Can you let me know what you see in the command window when you attempt to run sqldeveloper from command window and try to import your xls? I understand the sensitivity of the xls. No problem. Can you provide a general description of the nature of the cell values in each of the 84 columns that you have so that we can attempt to simulate you xls?

WIS 10883 using large Excel File as source for report in WebI RichClient

I'm trying to use a relatively large Excel 2003 file, say 7000 rows and 19 columns, as a source for a report in WebI Rich Client. When selecting a range of only 1500 records and 19 columns everything works, when accessing the full 7000 (or originally 30,000) I get this error message.
Does anybody know of a size limit for this and if so an option to adjust it? The only resources for this very limited.

I'm not sure why you are so negative to having Excel in the mix.
Excel is only used at development time - its mearly used as a design interface to build the xcelsius model that feeds data and controls components within the flash file that xcelsius generates.
Excel is not used at run time in any way (unless one uses a third party connector to use an XLS as a data source of course).
If you attempt to use xceslius without using the OLE embeded Excel sheet at design time you will only be able to create VERY simplistic dashboards.
The new connectivity in version 4 just removes a design step to make development simpler my combining direct to components - but behind the sceens i believe it is really only connecting to a hidden part of the model not shown the the Excel interface at design time!
i think we would all agree that having excel can be a pain at design time (especially those that used/use live office!) but it does offer a pretty good interface for building very intuative looking models behind your flash components.

I am trying to find an app that will interface with Windows XP home that will alllow me to download Excel 2003 files and run/change on an original Ipod. I have found Quick Office which is useless as cannot reduce font sizes to view a sensible area.

Is there an app that will allow me to move and edit Excel 2003 spreadsheets to and from Windows XP home that is better than QuickOffice. QuickOffice does, but will allow the usual Apple zooming facility on my Ipod Touch ?

I have been trying to convert List Item attachments from docx to pdf using word automation services, it works in a normal document library but when I use the list attachment it throws a null reference error.

According to your description, my understanding is that when you use word automation service to convert Word to PDF for list item attachment, it throws the null reference error.
I suggest you can create an event receiver and convert the word to memory stream like below:

Jakarta POI Excel97-2000 (Excel 2003?)

Hi All
I need to read data from Excel 2003 spreadsheet using my java program.
I looked at Jakarta POI, and JDBC-ODBC bridge options.
POI says Excel97-2000
Creating system DSN does not show Excel 2003 options. It shows Excel97-2000, Excel 3.0 etc
My environment is Windows XP 2002.
Can I read Excel 2003 documents using POI?
If I deploy this program on a machine which has earlier versions of excel on it will it be able to read.
I just have plain text in excel spreadsheet.

Hard to answer this question definitively because it very much depends upon exactly what is in the file. If you have saved a complex, formatted document that makes extensive use of features that were introduced into Excel for version 2003 then you will face problems. If the file contains simply plain text, then you should be fine. Most of the API authors base their product on an earlier version of the BIFF8 format to ensure compatibility with as wide a range of Excel versions as possible. That is why they all mention that the API will handle files that are based upon a specific version of Excel. Hopefully, you will be fine distributing the application onto machines that run earlier versions of Excel.
By the way, have you also considered JExcel? It handles a few things differently to HSSF (POI) and you may prefer the way it approaches parsing an Excel spreadsheet file and exposing it's contents.

Error when trying to convert excel files to pdf

I'm getting the following error when trying to convert .xls and .xlsx files to pdf, using the "Create PDF" option:
Error message from the primary converter:
ALC-PDG-010-012-PDFMaker reported an error while printing the document.
Word, Powerpoint and Text files convert without any issues. Also I'm able to opent the excel files and convert them to pdf using the acrobat option in excel.
Livecycle Version: 10.0.2, GM
MS Office Version: 2007

It is always difficult when you need to convert multiple xls files to pdf or multiple sheets to pdf. If you have a single file to convert then the best method would be to copy your data to doc file and then convert it into PDF . If you have multiple files to convert then it is really difficult to convert all the files manually. Then the better method would be to use converter tool to convert excel to pdf . By doing this you can convert many files in just few seconds.

it seems my subscription had expired so I signed up again.. It was still having trouble so I repeated the sign up process again.. Then it worked perfectly.. Unfortunately, I think I just subscribed twice and need to cancel one of them. Ugh. Such a pain when I'm trying to get this project completed. I'll be canceling at least one of the subscriptions in the morning. Adobe is not my favorite company right now. None of this was intuitive. And trying to get help was an absolute waste of an hour.

Reader cannot convert files to PDF (this is the Reader forum).
You'll want to ask in a forum for the software you are using to convert (could be ADobe Acrobat or could be Microsoft Excel's built in convertor).
