I am trying to copy the music from my mac to my iphone 5s
I have purchased the Iphone 5s, so I am assuming i am half way there as the IOS7 is already installed, I cant figure out how to install itunes 11.0 on the iphone so that I can sync my play lists etc every time i plug it in it comes up with a must install itunes 11.0 on iphone error message and each time i click download itunes on the phone it send me back to the home page. Frustrated as a first time smart phone buyer to add to the manual entry of my phone numbers.

"The iPhone “iPhone” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."
My itunes is already at version 11.1 on my mac system 10.7.2
the message is telling me my iphone requires version 11.1
can anyone help?

You don't. the ipad is not a backup/storage device. it simply mirrors the selected content of your computer. The sync is one way - computer to ipad. The only exception is itunes purchases.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your computer?
If so, not good.
You may be able to purchase a third party program, not supported by Apple, to get the other music. -

Yes, that is exactly what it means.
The right way to do it is to first rebuild your library on the new computer, and then sync the iPod.
You can rebuild your library by copying the library from the old computer or from your backup.
If neither of those options is available, you can extract the songs from the iPod, although the process is a bit hairy. See this guide for the procedure, written by Forum member Steve/turingtest2. -
I recently got a new computer and got rid of my old one. Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

When i was younger i did all my itunes purchasing through my father's account. I just purchased my own Mac book Air and i am trying to transfer the music from my iphone to my Mac. Is there a way to do this even though the music wasn't purchased on my id?

Your best bet is to move the music on the Windows side since Leopard will be able to read and play the music from the mounted Windows drive (Leopard will not be able write anything to the Windows NTFS partition).
In your case it won't work the other way around.

I have a pc and am trying to get my music through my iTunes on my computer. I didn't have any trouble syncing my iphone 5S but can't get it to sync with my 6. OS 8.1.3
I open iTunes on my pc, plug in my phone, then I click on the picture of a phone on the upper left hand corner of my music library. Then I get a box of options with sync at the lower right. I have clicked "automatically sync when phone is plugged in" and have also tried to do it manually by checking specific songs and albums. Every time I hit sync the box pops up that says, "The iPhone could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPhone. To authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes store choose Store>Authorize This Computer."
I took those steps and a box pops up that says "this computer is already authorized."
I have my recently purchased music on my phone that came through the cloud when I restored my phone. But I want my old music from CD's that I put on my iTunes library in my computer. I had all of this music on my old phone.

I have reset the iPhone to factory settings and when I plug it in it wants to use the device name for my current iPhone 5 and I don't want to change anything on my current iPhone. iTunes won't let me change the device name for the 3gs. If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are returning to an old iPhone that has been erased and you would like to set it up as a new device without restoring from a backup which would affect the name of your iPhone, as well as the contents therein. Basically, it seems like you may be stuck on a screen that is asking if you would like to restore your device from the backup that is filed under the name of your new iPhone, or if you would like to set up the device as a new device. I would suggest that you set it up as a new device to achieve your desired results.

Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer (11.1) from http://apple.com/itunes.
Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable.
Click on the name of your phone when it appears in iTunes.
Is the box "Manually manage music and videos" checked (near the bottom of the Summary page)? If it is, uncheck it.
Click on Music in the top bar in itunes.
Select the music you want on the phone.
Click the Sync or Apply button. -
